NO THEY CANNOT be trained to be "safe". It is NOT a breed, it is a non-stable arbitrary cross between a pit bull and any other unpleasant K9 that happens to be around. The breed lines have a LONG HISTORY of strong selective breeding for baiting and fighting and any animal (or plant) breeder will tell you YOU GET WHAT YOU SELECTIVELY BREED FOR. They were bred to be short-fused, easily provoked, reactive, testing and to bite HARD and LONG. It is deep in their genes. As with all K9 breed traits, in any litter, a couple will have it very strongly, most will have a little and the odd one will have none at all of these traits. Saying these dogs are "safe" is like saying a hand grenade is "safe"; Yes, it IS until you do the wrong thing - and someone WILL at some point. Certain behavior has been fostered into this breed for generations. They were literally bread for baiting bulls and have an evolutionary feature that allows them to ignore pain so they won't let go while other dogs would after getting kicked in the head by a horse. Those who bread them for dogfighting would kill any pup that showed weakness making the breed far more aggressive on average. This bull also has something called "gameness" where they need to take this aggression out. If you are a hunter who needs a dog for baiting this is an excellent choice. Otherwise this is not a family dog. I've heard of a Chihuahua making people need to get stitches but they will not maul/maime you, as opposed to pitbulls who are responsible for over 60% of deaths by dogs in the states... Exactly. Even with the on-lead dogs that walked past first the bully was being reactive and breaking focus. If that lead slipped out of his hand that becomes a dangerous situation with a dangerous dog. Even walking it before that the dog wasn't on heel and was dragging him about. Slow ambling stroll with the dog dictating where it wants to go. This fella is selling himself as a dog trainer for dangerous breeds and has failed in two years to do what a German course and a shitload of homework can do in a few months. It's the shitload of homework and shitload of exercise these dogs need that even the "good" owners fail to deliver on. Dog that size with that much energy is going to need 5 mile daily runs and a large outdoor play space to maintain manageable energy levels where you can effectively work the dog and keep it on-task. He's got them kennelled in his den, in a rowhouse. He's a prime example of why I support bans. Thinks he's doing things right when he most certainly is not, which creates a danger to the public.

Watching this film, you get the impression that this breed of dog requires close supervision at all times, from an owner who has an extensive amount of control over the dog and takes significant pains to ensure that the animal conducts itself in a palatable way in public. This is not a breed for owners who are prepared to let their dog have its own head or allow it to follow its instincts. As such, it categorically isn't a dog in the sense of a family pet. The military may have uses for this breed, carefully and assertively handled in a specific context, to perform a specific role, such as confronting trespassers on MoD property - but I get a strong impression that this is not a dog for everyday life.

My old Border Collie would herd myself and my family when we were all out walking she would walk behind and weave side to side keeping us all together, she never had any training for this sort of thing she was just a pet not a working dog but it was her nature to do that. As much as I agree with you that you should be able to do that without fear. I would however argue that if you see a dog approaching you and it's on a lead, it's on a lead for a reason. Dogs off the lead should either be wrangled in by voice, if it's untrustworthy and would run up to them, it should be placed on a lead until you guys have safely passed each other and you KNOW without a doubt that your dog won't go running after the other. The woman in this video, did not have full control over that one dog overwise it would not having challenged that bully. She did however show some responsibility in my eyes as the other dog was on a lead. Meaning it's untrustworthy to be off. So I wouldn't say she's completely irresponsible. But I felt like she had no urgency in her actions to grab her dog nor did she use an effective growling command to try to force it into submission. But it's definitely very important in my eyes for everyone with a dog, to be watchful of everything around them, read the body language of both the other owner and their dogs and make the right adjustments. Often I will notice an owner readjust the grip on their lead, or shoulders stiffen or shorten their leads as they approach. I also look at the dog to see if it's hyper focusing on me or my dog. If I notice anything untrustworthy, I make sure to wrangle mine in, watch his behaviour and apply the appropriate commands that I have taught him and give the other dog as much space as I'm able to do. This should be the responsibility of every dog owner. Not leaving them on extendable leads and having them on a shorter leash if they are prone to lunging etc and corrections when they persist. I'm often shaking my head at owners that allow their dogs to bark and lunge at mine without giving any kind of commands nor attempts to correct the behaviour.

I've worked as a dog sitter for years. A lot of owners are good owners, but they've taken a rescue dog that has huge problems that can't be fixed. A lot of these Bully XLs are 'lockdown dogs' that have since been re-homed. Many of them will have huge problems the current owners can't deal with. And then of course there are people who are not good owners. Often these people unintentionally create monsters through ignorance. I've known some well-meaning people who are utterly useless owners and don't realise it.

One of the six fatal attacks last year was a woman who was a professional dog walker - very experienced with dogs - who was mauled to death by her own pet XL bully whilst out on a regular dog walk. Another was a much-loved family pet described as 'gentle' and 'great with the kids' that suddenly snapped and killed the young mum of the family. Really, it's not just down to bad owners when it comes to this breed. They have problem genetics and a tendency to snap with no warning. It's clear from the sheer number of fatal attacks from this breed - which only makes up a tiny percentage of the 12 million dogs in this country - (6 so far this year and 6 last year) that there is a serious problem with this breed being kept as a family pet.

They aren't all the same type of dog. A staff looks similar to a pit but they aren't the same dog at all. XL bullies may look like pit bulls but aren't the same type of dog.
@bb-3653 Жыл бұрын
@chunkylover48 actually it's socialisation. Many dog breeds would likely chew on kids if they weren't socialised to be around people. Not all dogs but many this isnt limited to xl bullies. XL bullies are just large dogs so it's easier to kill children once they get their jaws on them. No different to if an unsocialised rotty or German shepherd did the same thing. People just fear monger bully breeds because the wrong type of people breed and own or even steal them. So it's probably the reason for these reports of attacks. Also they are pretty determined dogs, so once they bite they don't want to let go , but that's probably one of the few caveats

these are not natural dogs they are man made to fight and kill they are purposely breaded by breeders to be that way. all breeders need to be in prison or have a license and pay a yearly fee and if the breeders dogs attack when sold they are also can be sued or done for criminal charges. depending on the situation. and they should be Bann on mixing breeds. and if you own a dog like this it should be muzzled in public and you also need to have a licence and a licence fee paid every year £90 to own any dangerous dog and if your dog bites some one or kills some one the owner gets instant 18 years in prison and the dog deleted depending on the situation, and to own this dog you have to be over 21 and you have to carry a licence out with you when you have your dog if not you be fined £800 3rd offence its becomes criminal AND you get 8 years in prison all dangerous dogs also get chip in them with the owners information on, so if the dog becomes lose and lost, the owner easly can be tracked down and arrested 5 years in prison plus a fine plus people have to be responsible to own a dog like this if they are not then more and more people will continued to be hurt. thats the only way i beleive you can stop a ban. on any dog you have to have pure responsibility . dog is a life no matter what hat if you not prepared to do all that you should own have no animal at all.

It's not that they can't behave. Only people with breed knowledge should have these dogs, not as a trophy. I've seen these dogs in walking areas, i've NEVER seen an XL bully with my own eyes be aggresive to another dog. Ones i've seen seem to be well trained, they recall on demand, they wag their tales, they're happy loving dogs. But the problem is, for example when a Jack russel has a bad day and they bite somebody, it's going to hurt, bleed, bruise. If it got that serious and you kicked a jack russel to stop it attacking somebody or somebody's dog, it doesn't have the drive to continue. But when an XL bully attacks, they have a bite of over 300psi, they can break bones, they have a such drive even hitting these dogs with planks of wood will not stop their rampage, they can and have killed people. Their size can be overwhelming to stop an attack.

If a kid is moulded by a dog the child is killed not by dog but either owner's ego or stupidity, a family to mourn that traumatic and heart wrenching incident for the rest of their lives. Pit bulls were originally bred for dogfighting. They were bred to be highly aggressive towards other dogs but not people. If a dog attacked a human it would be culled and not allowed to breed. As dogfighting’s popularity waned, people started breeding them as guard dogs, which meant that now human aggression traits have been bred into much of them. It’s a recipe for disaster. If you ever decide to get one I wouldn’t recommend getting a rescue or even a puppy of unknown lineage of this breed because you have no idea what sort of aggressive traits could be in them. Pit bulls are a very popular breed where I live and we have a relative that sells registered pit bulls and so far no reported attacks on people but I refuse to own one.
