XO 1240L-T Bass Trombone Review

XO has been doing some nice things with their trombones for a while; the XO 1240 basses in particular have been a popular option in the Trombone Shop as of late. In this video we review the 1240L-T bass trombone (check out the like to our review of it's companion bass, the 1240RL-T, below!) You have such a great, open, warm tone and just a great sound period on trombone, ive been looking at the XO line for a while now but i havent made a choice on which one i would want to get im looking for a good straight tenor for jazz. Any suggestions? So far im leaning towards the XO1632

I really like the 1632. As this horn is so light I think the RGL-T with it's rose brass bell gives a this horn a plush warmth on the soft end but doesn't get overly bright and edgy. Many modern .500" bore trombones end up feeling a bit small to me but this is one of the models where, especially if I take more of a Fedchock approach to the sound and air, it has a very balanced and quick response! I don't have one of these in at the moment but they are often available fairly quickly from XO...

@@SchmittMusicTromboneShop Thanks, ive never gotten the oppurtunity to play a rose brass horn and ive been itching to try one so I can get a good opinion on it but this helped a bunch.

Is that trombone easy to play bass range? ex. lowlowF, lowlow Es etc...

With its .571 bore how much more air does it take compared to other 562 bore basses with Thayer valves

Interestingly I really don't notice a difference with the .571" bore. I have been trying to figure out what else in the design provides the slight resistance that the .571" bore removes; the only thing I have noticed is that the handslide is just a touch narrower then Getzen/Edwards/Shires handslides. The 1240L-T with it's yellow brass bell seems to conserve air a bit more then the rose brass variant but neither of them seem excessively open to me...
