I have played both 1 and 2. They are both great games. 2 filled in the details that were not in 1. That is what made both games good.

even though objective 2 is the better, more complete, less monotonous game, I can't help but love 1 better. The soundtrack alone, esp in this game opening, set such an epic tone and established the universe and i will always love this game

Lufia 2 may be the better game in basically every way, but the art direction in Lufia 1 is _incredible._ No SNES game I know of has a spell that looks as juicy and vivid as Thunder.

I think 1's story is better than 2's.

That's exactly how I feel. Lufia 2 is objectively the better game, and I do greatly enjoy it. But between the soundtrack, the originality of the mood that it provides that elevates the game from being a dragon quest clone and gives it a dark feel, the characters, the awesome hunt for treasure and the cool spells and surprisingly fun combat, and challenging as hell if you don't grind for levels (or save state scum like I used to with the random stat boosts at level up), I can't help but love Lufia 1 more. The opening 'Prologue of Peril' and above all the titular 'Fortress of Doom' theme are some of the most memorable tracks on the entire SNES library. For my money, The Fortress of Doom theme is top 10 all time SNES tracks, up there with Corridors of Time, Stickerbrush Symphony, Aquatic Ambiance, Actraiser's Fillmore, or the best FFIV and VI tracks. Btw if you check out my channel I've done a trumpet arrangement of the Fortress of Doom
