Great moody bedroom! As a former rug designer and colourist, I noticed the white, looked like thread bare areas, in the beautiful rug you purchased. You could get a fabric dye or coffee dye and dab those areas with a sponge to soften and blend the colours so there is not such a contrast. This will not hurt the rug in any way. It is nice to see a designer willing to experiment with colour, still keeping everything soft, calming, and neutral. Good job.

I find myself laughing when people buy brand new "distressed" rugs, trying to achieve the look that Macenna's rug in the bedroom has naturally. The most wonderful rug I ever owned was a huge one we found in the trash, clearly high quality and very worn. It was gorgeous! That was 40 years ago before "distressed" was in. Sadly lost it in a divorce.

As a person who works in an art gallery, the standard for hanging art on the wall is between 57"- 60" to the middle of the piece. For example, if you have artwork that is 20" long, hang the piece so that the top sits between 67" and 70" high on the wall. It'll look great every time - not too low, not too high!

I agree - the white windows connect it to the other rooms too. I would also be scared to paint walls darker - but this room with that much natural light really asked for it. Also liked the paint choice - it changed its vibe depending on time of day, with the lights added. I personally would have chosen Rural earth, or a slightly lighter hue. The painting popped with the darker color, especially the blue sky - on white walls it almost disappeared (just don't place 🔥next to oil paintings). Together with the dresser my favorite part.

@@Silviamattos777Right?! It was stressing me out. And in terms of upholstery it even has lines that don’t go straight but are a bit pulled to different sides. I liked the idea of the shape of the headboard and the concept of stripes against the vintage floral rug and the idea of a lighter frame, but the execution was thwarted by the quality of this bed frame itself. I still think the idea is the right one!

When I was in Design school, one of my instructors always said, “white is seldom right”…and he loved using dark colors. They recede, making a room feel larger. Your color choice is fabulous and the entire space looks wonderful. Great job!

I have quilt fabric in that color and think it is beautiful. Haven't made the quilt yet, but look forward to it. I have never gone so dark, it is beautiful. I never leave white walls, but generally paint walls in a mid tone. My junky kitchen needs remodeled, but in the meantime I painted my cabinets black! They surround a 10' window to the woods. I love it! The cabinetry recessed and the south window glows with evergreens and sunlight. I painted the walls tan. Knowing I would rip it out let me experiment. I love your moody kitchen cabinets and that look changes the cabinet pick. I already picked up a thrifted window for the west side which matches the east window. A thrifted antique breakfast table will sit under that west window and overlook the valley below me. The east window overlooks my back courtyard with my 8 raised bed vegetable/herb garden and my zen garden and retreat just beyond it and the mountain beyond that. One day I'll tackle that kitchen! No plumbing moves, a plus. I bought a junky house on gorgeous land! Still, after killing the mortgage, I am upgrading the house a bit.

Love your bedroom, the dark color makes it so relaxing. My family room is a dark greenish blue, has white plantation shutters on 3 walls of windows. Every one told me it was too dark, now all agree it is perfect. I have colors painted throughout my home, all with a blue base except 1 guest bedroom and master suite.

Honestly, this is my favorite room makeover you have ever done, in terms of no full renovation. I absolutely love what you've done to update the bedroom and the en suite. I think I may be sad if you change it all during the future renovation planned! Phenomenal job girly. Also- I just received my candle and it's beautiful in every way. The bed seems kind of beachy in this setting. Otherwise the room is stunning and reminds me of the beautiful entryway in the cottage. I also like the chair by the doors and the brass knob on the dressers, with the brass lamp and I obviously love the books by the window! But the bed frame doesn’t do it for me, I must admit. I also would have colour drenched all the fixtures and outlets. The moulding looks great and yes, that painting is transformed next to those greens! It’s like it was freshly polished, the greens of the painting pop much more now. I didn’t think I’d like the dresser, I thought I’d be too light, but it looks really good, especially with that mirror and the organic vase and the styling items on top. The rug was the perfect choice, its edged almost melt into the brick in such a special and organic way. But the bed does not do it justice. I’m not saying the concept of it is bad, I see the idea, but the lines aren’t aligned and too sparse, it’s more preppy beachy than light yet moody delicate vintage striped. It doesn’t feel elevated in this room, and since it is basically the star of the room, I genuinely hope that one day you’ll come across a bed frame that is just as beautiful as the dresser and genuinely is worthy of being in this cozy almost-library bedroom.

I'm seeing maybe a Renaissance or a William Morris styled fabric. Pretty obnoxious of me to suggest something to you, but I can't help but think that the headboard fabric isn't working in there. That rug is everything! I love drapes though - fabric really adds something. I'd hang "fake" drapes on the little sections of wall either side of the bed, adjacent to the window wall where the pictures are now hanging. Imagine a sheer off-white drape.

Hey MaCenna, another tacked you might take in covering for a spray paint project is “slugging.” Use Vasinine, Cerave or anything else that you might use on your face to occlude an active. It will make getting any fine mist, that might have settled on your face, easier to wash off later. Really pretty bedroom ❤

Yes, about six years ago I painted my bedroom. It’s called milestone, I was going through a huge milestone in my life at the time, it is a charcoal, gray very dark. It does have like a purple undertone absolutely love it.
