Honestly, the fact the S21 Ultra doesn’t have a headphone jack or Micro SD makes the Xperia a automatic winner in my eyes. Excellent video though, I’m looking forward to future Xperia releases I just hope both the selfie camera and brightness of the phone is better :)

@tech_edit3 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's a good deal you got there. You're right to flag depreciation. Its the same with Maseratis I'm told - at least Xperia phones are cheaper than a new Maserati! You could probably pick up a used Maserati for the price of an Xperia Pro though. Anyway, enough about Maserati haha

@@7654321220 The fact that after a few months a new phone can be subject to marked depreciation raises the question of whether Manufacturers are over inflating the price of a new model upon it's release. Combine that with the fact that, other than people who must have the latest model each year, many potential buyers will wait for prices to depreciate probably has an impact on the popularity of a Manufacturer, and it's products. Then, there is the question of whether so called innovations, and improvements introduced by Manufacturers, are now producing diminishing returns.
@76543212203 жыл бұрын
@@terrym540 If you do believe market price from demand and supply, the msrp is just "Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price". Theoretically it is impossible for the manufacturer to control the market price, without some dirty hands. If buyers still buy, not sure how the popularity works, yet there will be no hype. And from all the people I know, you buy a phone when the last phone breaks and don't really care about release date whatsoever. And yes, the improvements now are more like polishing and that follows diminishing returns heavily. The next big trend of "innovation" is still to be seen, probably invented, but still improving to be a big wave imo

Looking forward to the Xperia 1 III and possibly Premium model. Can't wait to see what this new channel covers in terms of content- really enjoyed the content on btekt and objective views taken. I will say specific to this video, there are a lot of things that Sony could build up on over time such as more refined/ personalised software features and diversification of models put out there. A heavy hitting premium model would be much welcome at this point. There are a lot of things I like about the S21 Ultra such as 12-bit photography, 4K 60fps across all cameras, polished selfie camera, rendered output in video, computational photography, night mode and zoom capabilities. The things holding me back from getting one are missing features like headphone jack, expandable storage, high quality slow-motion, consistency across lenses, saturated output and a hole punch. Hopefully the Xperia 1 III is enough of an upgrade, including features like higher bit-rate content output, rendered video output (something like s-cinetone could work too) and a dedicated night mode would be amazing to see.

What a great comment! Gotta say i agree with you. I think the 1 III will really get us extremely close to what you're looking for. Can't let my passion for Sony phones go even though Sony Mobile left the Turkish market a long time ago. I had an XZ Premium when that happened and when it was time to replace it, I bought a second-hand well-kept XZ3 which was a personal import from Europe. Now I'm on my second second-hand Sony phone, the Xperia 1. Using an unofficially imported phone here in Turkey brings some legal obligations such as a very steep import charge and some limitations like the three-year period to import another phone and also a rule that makes selling the phone impossible. Anyway, I'm not sure that the experience worth all the hassle but as people like us all know, passion does not follow reason. So here I am to follow you, another passionate Sony follower. The night shot in particular was wildly different, especially. Actually, in an ideal world I'd like to see Sony take the fight to Samsung in auto mode by massively improving the computational wizardry but leaving the pro apps largely as they are, so we can get the best of both worlds. In normal lighting conditions auto mode can keep up with the samsung if you've remembered to use the pro app. Buy i take your point and i think most people probably prefer the bright and vivid (albeit artificial looking) night shots etc

Thanks so much for subbing! I'd say the two devices are so close to each other (in terms of the general owner experience) that I'd just pick the one that is the best overall size for you. For me i prefer the bigger screen (and 4k is obviously a nice treat) so I went with the 1 II. Whichever one you choose you'll be happy. Just try to get a great deal maybe with free headphones etc! Cheers, Tom

He's back! 😎 As always, perfectly presented and unbiased. Eventually purchased the xperia 1 II. Don't know why I took so long! Like you, the two biggest things that stand out for me are, 1. The 21:9 screen. Looks genuinely phenomenal in its full cinema wide glory, without any selfie cam. But also, to hold and handle is just so good. So much better than any other design. In every way. And, 2. Photo Pro app. I just love this. It's easy enough to get into it and play around, but advanced enough to spend hours learning photography! Produces amazing real to life photos that I just drool over. Can't wait to see what the mark III produces.. 💭 Thanks again, and can't wait to see more of your great videos! 👌🔥

Heya Luke! So sorry pal, somehow i missed this message yesterday. So happy to here you've pulled the trigger on the 1 II, that's awesome news! Yep you feel the same way i do about the overall dimensions of the phone and of course the camera apps. Careful, it's addictive - before you know it you'll have bought yourself a new a7s iii hahaha. As is what has happened here ;) Enjoy your new phone - really happy you're part of the community here, really value your contribution! Cheers, Tom

It's great you gave Samsung a good chance at the Samsung experience. A lot of tech KZbinrs cover devices like they're all the same (e.g. using a Pixel like a Samsung, or using an LG like a Huawei etc when each brand is trying to offer a unique user experience). I highly appreciate that you go through the experience the device is trying to provide because ultimately that's what real people will experience. So props for giving the full feature experience and even the niche bits such as the s-pen on the 21Ultra. So props for giving the Samsung experience a chance, giving the Xperia experience a chance and so forth. About these two devices. I've found that the 1ii was always a response to the S20+. It was never too outrageous like the ultra and it was never too bare like the S20 and for the most part it was priced similarly to the S20+ variant. I don't see any comparisons like those even though those devices are much more in the same weight class than the Ultra Vs 1 series. Overall it is a good video because I've got a 512GB memory card and it's highly useful being able to keep all media while changing device. I am definitely not going to get all my data on a device which doesn't support internal SD cards so it definitely is a big deal for me. I still use the headphone jack. Ironically I'm watching this video with my wired headphones because they're super convenient at times. I'm certain the Samsung has a great experience but no SD card, no jack and a hole in the display just don't cut it personally. These are daily functions which are more significant than 120Hz which the 5ii has on top of the aforementioned features which the 1iii possibly will have also. Looks like I might have to continue with SONY for a while. Definitely not a bad thing but man I wish the display got to at least 1000nits.

Awesome comment from you Kapil - as always. Thanks for your contribution here. Finding a phone which respects the content enough not to dump a punch hoke camera or notch in there is becoming increasingly difficult. Factor in yeh lack of headphone jacks and increasing lack of removable storage and Sony really are the only ones giving us what we are are after - especially now it seems LG are on the way out of smartphone production... If the 1 III doesn't have a really bright screen I'll eat my hat.
@kapilbusawah71693 жыл бұрын
@@tech_edit amen to that! I don't know how likely it is to have a bright 4k OLED just yet. The tech with diodes currently is that smaller diodes produce less light. The thing with the 1 series with 4k and all is that the pixels are really small so each diode produces a tiny proportion of light. I sincerely hope 4k and diode tech has improved by a significant margin otherwise I can feel the dread of yet another dull display. To be honest these latest Xperia phones are really coming close to the ultimate phone for me. It's now down to two issues only at this point: computational photography for stock app and display brightness. Apart from those two aspects I can't fault the 1ii at all personally!

As someone who appreciates Sony products, The ingenuity they employ in their products is something I adore. It's subtle most of the time but it gives me this "I'm glad I have this feature" when I use Sony. Sony is not perfect but I don't think there is one single perfect device per category. Hey welcome back, hope you guys are well. Liking the new look, but the rooftop reviews were awesome with Panama City in the back ground. Good comparison , that Galaxy is a good phone, good to see the xperia 1ii holding its own against a 2021 Samsung flagship. However, Xperia 1iii probably will compare better. Have you had the Android 11 update? I have and I do believe it has improved many features including the camera in auto mode. Great to see you guys back, will be looking forward to future videos. Zak.

Love your channel! Fair reviews to sony products are hard to find. As a former Xperia user, who moved to an s9 Plus a few years back( a gift from the wife), I found that the build quality of my former Z5 was better, even as a multi media device! After the S9 Plus, I believe I would go back to Xperia, because of so much more versatility as an everyday product. Thank you Sony365!

I was honest when it was the other name (I talked about too much camera sway) and I'll be honest here. Feel free to ignore any and all opinions, just want to share it as I'm a fan. 1)Music way too loud. 2) I enjoyed your past videos but no matter how fair you may have tried to be it always seemed biased. Now that you rebranded to Sony name, lean into it. I don't think anybody will come here looking for fair comparisons. No matter how hard you try the comment section will be "well what do you expect from a page called Sony". So I say lean into it, be Sony gear not sony vs stuff. My favorite Sony YT page is Playstation Access. Great Ps4/5 content and no talk of other consoles. No this game is better on ps4 etc. Just pure playstation love. And this should be just pure Sony love. Anyway, looking forward to see where you go with this. Thanks for listening and good luck. 😊

One thing that really drags S21 down is the exynos/SD mess. From performance (while negligible in daily use) to battery life to image processing the Snapdragon version has been superior for years now. I am not willing to pay the same price for inferior product, thus no Samsung for me. Drop the Exynos pricing by 100 EUR vs SD variant and we might be talking.

sony should release more phones in critical price points, not just flagship levels. Like 10 II was nowhere in competition on that price point with that spec, Hope 10 III will do better if it gets 765G chipset and sony's great cameras.
@tech_edit3 жыл бұрын
Yes it's going to be interesting to see if Sony can nail the pricing/value proposition beyond just the flagships. It's going to be almost impossible to do those in the budget categories, but i doubt sony really needs to be in that space anyway... A competitive 10 III would be great to see ! For those who are conscious of price, I picked up an Xperia 1 ii new (Mirror Lake Green / 12 GB ram) for £667.00 in the UK, all in. I can't really commit to £1K+ for a new handset, but the bargains are there if you know where to look (etoren). Focus will obviously shift to the Xperia 1 iii this week, but hopefully Tom can flag other handsets/current pricing as a sub-topic, because the options are definitely there. I didn't believe the hype, so the phone blew me away.......

The 5II for me. Smaller form factor, headphone jack, class leading cameras, 120Hz. Would love to see them keeping just standard and UW camera both backed with their IMX800 1" sensor. That would be the ultimate phone for me, maybe sprinkle some LG like audio HW and front facing true stereo speakers.

Nice first video. That S21 Ultra is looking pretty good, but I won't lie here, that camera bump is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. If it was a competition for design, I'd take the Xperia any day of the week. For the name, having no headphone jack or expandable memory is not ultra at all. It should be the S21 Minor. Fair enough for shitting on the Xperias front camera, that thing is one god awful mistake from Sony. Hopefully, they improve it next time around. Everything else is so minor it doesn't matter. Yes the Galaxy has a bigger battery but you make a good point, you are still going to charge it after a day if it can't make two. The fingerprint scanner on both is quick enough. That's a fair enough statement. I don't know what Samsung has done but that screen brightness from an OLED is impressive, considering Sony pretty much invented the tech. All in all, good video, a good summary and very informative for both Sony and Samsung fans. Good mahi.
@tech_edit3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the S21 Ultra does look better than samsung Ultra attempt last year which was...challenging on the eye to say the least. I believe Christopher here in the comments discovered that the selfie camera is actually from Samsung which is really quite interesting. I would love to have been in the room when that decision was made. Still on balance the unique offering of the Xperia is compelling. And soon of course there'll be a 1 III to shake things up a bit! Thanks so much for your comment. Cheers, Tom
