13:16 you can see (especially in the "that is a tasty burger" at the top left of the sign) it does look like the 1II pulled better focus onto the sign than the 5II (which looks like it focused on the wall instead), but the shutter speed was too slow or something on the 1II, because there's an afterimage from handshake or something which ruins the clarity of the whole image. I can tell that the textured bricks would have looked nicer too if they weren't smeared by that

2:48 woah the 5II really wanted to raise the exposure on that one! did you let it autofocus or did you focus and meter to a specific point? I wonder if the composition was different enough (like the reflection on the throwing star, bright on the 1II so it would lower overall exposure, darker on the 5II so it would increase the exposure, especially if that's the point that was chosen to reference for the metering) between the two photos, because it looks like the 5II had a longer shutter time, leading to a softer looking photo and one that had blown out colors. If you pull up the exif data for both images, you should be able to see which iso and shutter speeds the cameras decided to use for each

I just moved from a Samsung galaxy a5 2017 model to an xperia xa1. Cheap af. But I am pretty content with the quality of Sony. I am only a bit concerned with rhe competitiveness for night photos vs the Google pixels. If Sony handles nightmode well I'm 100% sold. For now just checking around. That sensor seams nice. I hope the be graduated in a year and then have some money to buy somethimg better. I hope sony will do the job. I habe a sony Bravia at home for more than 10 years. Still working. I always use Sony mp3 earbuts. I love Sony

just want to add that the ToF sensor doesn't add detail in itself, but rather it is just a good way for the phone to figure out the distance to an object (and things that are in focus will have better detail). Phones use the data from the ToF sensor to figure out where to move the lens to focus the camera without hunting for focus, and for computational photography like blur effects and whatnot. It does look like the 1II is pulling better focus in most of these photos, but I don't know how the photos were actually taken so I don't know how much of it would be down to the hardware difference, software difference, or user input differences. oh! that selfie shot did look better on the 1II, so assuming they have the exact same hardware there, then I guess they did improve the image capture/processing in their Android 11 update, which I'm guessing contributes to the rest of the pictures generally looking better as well edit: 14:05 woahh that's a huge improvement! Looking forward to see when the 5II gets the update whether it matches the 1II again or stays behind

The 5II looks like the kind of phone i'd replace mine with when it eventually dies, but I'm hoping to get a couple more years out of mine lol

If there's low light the phone does automatically do a long exposure... honestly in those scenarios, it's just better to shoot raw in photo pro & use lightroom to edit

A lot of youtubers do not give the credit to this phones deserves. I used the pixel 5, oneplus 8t and this Xperia 5ii and I'm sorry but the built quality is superior to these and I personally like more sony picture quality with camera pro app. The bummer of this Xperia 5ii for me is just that is missing wireless charging but that's it, this is really a great phone.

Cool video, but the night-mode comparison is invalid, since you didn't use a tripod and the exposure time was higher (hence the blurr, i.e. hand shaken photo). Anything over 1/30s is very likely to create blurry images ;) [unless you've had ninja-school, ultimate-stillness stealth-training :D]

I don't think you quite understand the tof sensor!, Your understanding of how it works is completely wrong ,it doesn't add any more details and sharpness to the photo ,it just helps for accurate focus ,also your night shots, Bro! that has nothing to do with software maybe the dynamic range but not the details, it's obvious that your hand was not as stabile as it was while taking the 1ii shot and even the 1ii has some motion blur and it's not as perfect and sharp (wasn't stable as well) and for dynamic rang I think that's bcuz you took the photo so early that you didn't give the camera ai enough time to know that it need hdr for that scene

@@JoeGillian0 I just read this as well as the Wiki article for USB Video Class, and it sounds like they're being a bit optimistic in that news report :/ If the phone supported a full HDMI input, I think Sony would have mentioned that, instead of specifying USB-VC. USB-VC is for video streams (like from a camera). Also what's weird is that in the wiki article, it says that Android dropped support for USB-VC in Android10, so it'd be interesting if Sony re-implemented it themselves in their ROM or something, if the wiki article is even correct ... {Android _did_ drop support for Miracast a while back....} en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_video_device_class although....that would open the door for an HDMI to USB-VC converter to be used if wanted... ---oof they're basically just capture cards, and expensive AF www.startech.com/en-de/audio-video-products/uvchdcap

Does anyone of you, Xperia 1 ii or Xperia 5 ii have any of the following issues: - ear proximity switch: during a phone call randomly turns on the display, leading to pressing all sorts of buttons with my ear, mostly "mute"? (Happens on every call) - phone display becomes unresponsive at whatever it was doing (freezes), sometimes I can't end calling someone, other times can't call, other times can't scroll... - any video embedded in a website on Chrome has distorted (chunky) voice I am asking because I see very few online traces of people having these issues, but I do have them, from day 1. I need to know wether to try servicing the phone or try to request the money back. Sony does not seem to have admitted to the proximity sensor issue, but there are people who have them, while many don't. The sensor seems to switch on the display under 5cm, in my case at less than 2cm. The sensor is at the top of the phone where the head is already a bit away from the phone... Snapdragon 888 cannot hold 4K with 120Hz. It can hold max resolutions of 4K -60Hz or 2K-144Hz. So, 1III will be a 4K 60Hz display. But, it can improve it's motion blur reduction technology.
