The AD100 is a great light, especially if you use it for its strengths. It is great and quite powerful as a bare flash, even more so if you use the zoom. The AKR1 kit compatibility is really nice as well. Super cheap to have a huge range of gel colors and so easy to swap out. It’s a great effects light. The 200 has a round head attachment as well but MarcusPix showed it isn’t any brighter than the 100. The biggest compromise is using it in a softbox during the day but it is still nice to have a compact full light setup with some compact light stands that easily fit in a backpack. The green tint issue was pretty noticeable. People have corrected with gel but even better is Adorama sells a replacement lens for $20 that doesn’t have the color cast.

Good video. Reminds me of one that I saw recently from MarkusPix. He loves the AD100 and that FLIP style softbox. But he is focused on as minimal weight as possible but still achieving his goals.

Oh yeah, actually watched his video on it sometime recently. I recorded my video before watching it though as I didn't want to 'copy' his. The 100 Pro with these flip softboxes is so awesome for portability. My go to when traveling.

Has anyone else run into a problem with the controller not working with the Sony a7rv? How did you resolve it? It's a good thing I brought my Canon 5D Mark IV with me as a backup, otherwise I would have been in trouble!

If you really want to use the 200 with the flip softboxes then I wouldn't strongly suggest buying the 200's extension and the round head attachment for the 200. I think for the AD200 you are much better off going with the AD-S7 than the flip. It is super easy to set up, fits right on the bulb head. You can take the diffusion off and add the little plate to make it a true beauty dish or leave the plate out for portability (although it fits really nice on any flat spot in a bag). It folds down super compact since it only uses that 1” head attachment. And it’s only $30 from China or $50 from US retailers. I think it’s one of the most underrated gems of a softbox, it’s so close to the dimensions of an AD200 or small light stand it just packs well and is super convenient and versatile.

Tell me why this is a bad idea: use the ad100 with an x2 trigger and a short cold shoe magic arm as an on camera flash instead of the v1.

Yes. The typical speedlight is around 60W. The latest ones by Flashpoint/Godox are 76W.

I hate to be critical but the AF keeps coming in & out on you , what camera & lens are you using ? I re-do this if I was you as for the ad100 , yeah a good addition to your camera bag as a extra light

Definitely not redoing this. I fixed it in my latest video. Somehow changed autofocus from center to wide and changed it back. I agree about the 100 Pro. I've been using it for a while now. So small.

I have one. The 100 overheats really quickly. Skip it for the 200. Don’t at all agree this time.

Never overheated with me. Several factors contribute to overheating so if you're using max output and firing rapidly (which would be why your 100 Pro is overheating) a stronger light would be more ideal for you. Skip the 200 and just get a 400 Pro or stronger.

In some way it is but it really depends on what you want the light to do. I carry two 300 Pros in my bag because I love that light and two 100s because they're smaller than the 200s. For me, the 100s are better than the 200 because they're lighter, still have enough power for me, and fit nicer into my bag.
