@SuperFlyBarnes before the swap, the big was running very sluggish, wouldn't idle well and hard to keep alive. Pulled it all apart, soaked and cleaned everything. Put back on and much better once I realized that I installed the throttle needle slide backward, which caused a full throttle no matter what I did.

The stock "idle mixture screw" is a tapered brass pin that seats into a pin hole that adjusts FUEL, that new carbs screw adjusts AIR, in one of those bottom holes around the rim of the air filter neck, one cuts off pilot fuel, the other ADDS air to the idle circuit, totally different operation- the "Should be 2-2.5 turns" rule doesnt apply every time the piston goes up and down, it breathes a bunch of air in and out of the crankcase line - leaving that filter IN on a dirtbike is an excellent idea
@Mikefestiva2 ай бұрын
Yes I do understand that this carb had an air bleed rather than the fuel screw like the other one had. Over the past 25 plus years of tuning carbs from motorcycles to dual Side draft Weber carbs on cars the rule of thumb is around 2.5 turns out, much further in or out tells you if your too lean or rich with the pilot jet. It’s just a way to get you close to tuning. Even the manual mentions 1.5 turns out is a good starting position. Why would this 2.5 turns out not apply to the air mixture screw???
@Mad-Duk_Machine_Werkes2 ай бұрын
@@Mikefestiva I still like you and watch you, but this is now the second time you took offence to one of my comments and go on the offensive- is it not possible that someone older than you, and having messed with stuff as much or more than you could exist? youre an odd guy Mikey - deff an odd approach to "Growing a channel"

@@Mad-Duk_Machine_Werkes I was not offended in any way from your comment, maybe it’s hard to read emotion from a comment, in no way did I fine your comment offensive. I just responded to your comment by asking why can’t that rule be used and mentioned that I have experience tuning carbs. By asking a simple question in response to your comment that said “the 2.5 turns out rule of thumb does not apply” (Why) was simply asked to see what your approach to tuning an air bleed screw was if that rule can’t be used to guide in tuning the pilot jet leaner or richer. This comment is simply just asking your approach that’s all.
@Mad-Duk_Machine_Werkes2 ай бұрын
Wait, I got it- Take a vacuum carb synch gauge and hook it up or the intake, and watch how much if any the gauge changes for 1/2 and 1 full turn from the fuel type screw, then compare to the amount of change in the gauge to adjusting an air bleed screw at 1/2 and 1 turn- totally different results-

Use blue loc tite on any fastener on any and every bike because motorsickles vibrate and take a lot of bumps no matter what you ride and a lost fastener can strand you on the side of the road,interstate,trail,or wilds... It's cheap,easily removed,and almost fool proof... I so wanna hear Mikeys story about a stuck wide open carb 😆
@gtrider3162 ай бұрын
I recently added a wideband to my templar to see what kind of changes each jet/needle/slide opening did and it was pretty eye opening. Interesting stuff going on with these smaller carbs. I have a similar nibbi and I still can't quite tell if it utilizes a transfer port for off idle transition. Also I believe they like to run a little rich for both cooling and staying ahead of the next stroke of air which could suddenly increase. Like others said it has no accelerator pump which would help a lot on big cracks of throttle.

Nice upgrade for the bike, so when's the video on the skid steer coming?😉
@Mikefestiva2 ай бұрын
I will probably be making a video on the skid steer, but I’m on the fence about it. I ended up receiving the skid steer a few months later than it was first anticipated. When I received it it was not the model I ordered but the newer ( upgraded model ) but unfortunately I really wanted the original model. To me the original model was simpler but the layout was better in my opinion. The company I ordered it from had a hard time ordering just one unit from the manufacturer rather than a shipping container load, that’s why it took longer. The fact is I’m still determining if I’m happy with it or not. Usually I only make videos on products I buy, I’m happy with and offer good value like the Rippa mini Excavator. I feel I need to get a lot more work done with the mini skid steer before I make up my mind if it’s something I would actually recommend to my viewers or not. Haha sorry for the long reply 🤣 But I figured I would let you know where I’m coming from on that subject. Take care and have a good weekend 😊

the ONLY way to eliminate the "bog" is to get a carb with an accelerator pump. like a Kehin FCR. one that fits a crf150r. that would cost too much and be too complex for a "fun" machine. the other simple option is a carb for an xr200 or 200r. lastly if you dig way back a carb for an xl125 or xl185 is the same as stock with a normal pilot jet. 1979-1987 vintage

do you recomend me to change carb on my dirt bike if it back fires in 4or5 gear when i let it go from ful throtle?
@Knobbyonix2 ай бұрын
Hey Mike! Great video buddy. Hey I still have the "bog" issue when I snap the throttle and it's driving me nuts. As you know I have the same carb (Nibbi PE26). I seem to have tried everything to correct this problem but no luck so far. Last week I checked the valves....just to check them. I know it wasn't related to the hesitation/bogging issue. Before the valve adjustment I checked compression. The bike had a whopping 170PSI of compression! I was quite surprised it was so high. That does explain why it takes a very healthy kick to get it started if not using the E-start. Ok here's where things get a little weird. I checked the valves. There were very tight. The spec is .004 for both exhaust and intake. They were far too tight. I adjusted them both so the .004 gauge would slide in. So I reassembled everything and started it. It seem to start a bit easier...but when I rechecked the compression is was FAR lower. It went from 170PSI to 75PSI??! Do you by any chance have a compression tester to test your Storm 150 to see what you get for compression? Maybe I messed up when adjusting the valves to have it be so much different in compression? I think I may have to take another look at the valves. Also thank you for mentioning me in this video. My brother actually told me about! Thanks again. I'm working on another video right now regarding the jetting and bogging issue when the throttle is cracked hard. It turns about I had already changed my main to #95. I originally had a 120 but it was way too rich. I went down to a 110 and still had the bog. I then switched it to A 95 main and still have the same issue. I adjusted the needle to the same position you just did on your Nibbi carb and I still have the problem. There is much less carbon on the plug. I'm starting to think the carb size may be too large for this engine. Any clue what might be going on here? I might experiment with the stock carb just to get more information for trouble shooting this problem. Also I wanted to share some stuff with you and asked you a few questions that really shouldn't be asked publicly here on KZbin. If I gave you my knobbyonix email address for you to shoot me an email so I could go over a few things with? It' about your store/merch and I also wanted to let you know about a new X-Pro bike that became available over the last 3 weeks. I wanted t share this with you because in this last video of yours it looks like you purchased a new Storm 250 model...which is also new. When my brother and I were talking on the phone about his purchase of the Templar X 250 I noticed a new model called the Paladin 300. This is a TOTALLY different breed of bike when compared to the other X-pro lineup. It's a 300cc 33.5 HP, EFI, 6 speed liquid cooled beast. My brother just bought that bike instead of the Templar and it's has all the bells and whistles that the X Templar has including the fully adjust suspension. Thanks man! -Chris
