I'm not super chemistry smart, but what does "both" mean here? If it's just chlorine, shouldn't it have a pH of 7, because there's no hydrogen ions or hydroxide in it? My knowledge comes from one college biology class, so I might be missing a few parts of the puzzle
@castrinecubique9836 ай бұрын
@@jeebiv4961 7 is neutral ph, so no, absolutely not. Is chlorine, the element, in its purest form inert? I'm not sure, but there's water in the air, and water does make some elements burn, produce intense heat, or make poisonous gas. It's not chlorine per se, it's a chlorine and alkaline "acid" (according to the DM, who should've really picked one, lol). By acid, they don't mean the ph of it, they basically mean a liquid that melts organic matter, which can happen with really strong cleaners like drano (which is probably what they mean by "alkaline acid"). On a ph only viewpoint, they are two opposites, and should definitely neutralize each other. Hope this helped.

I mean, it's a legit point. Your character is supposed to be a trained X or Y doing stuff, so I don't see any reason why anything has to fail in a rather simple situation. GM could be more creative. Like you see the pressure plate is slightly corroded due to the acid and if you don't work fast enough the trigger will activate anyways. Or it's rigged to activate upon deactivation and you have seconds to figure out what's the real deactivating mechanism. Or there are just people shooting at you, that also does the trick. Etc.
@Deathnom6 ай бұрын
I hate when characters do this. Its up to the DM to decide what is going on, not the players. Especially when the party barbarian uses his real life knowledge to try and make something only a trained artificer could do, and argues that since he as a player knows how to do something their character should as well.

Back when I was a young teen just starting to experiment with D&D my friends and I all played ourselves in game but not to this degree. We still did dice rolls etc. and used alot of imagination. But in our case it was intentional because we found it funny to play "ourselves" in the d&d universe trying to survive dungeons and random situations/encounters. We were in tears from laughing our heads off at each others real world reactions to in game events.

I wholeheartedly stand by always letting players do any small actions they're physically capable of doing in real life

Okay, just 1 thing, "if i have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" Isaac Newton The fact that you know how to make a war crime substance doesn't mean that your character knows. Weapons like that one were invented in the 1910's, hundreds of years after the time you play in a fantasy setting. Your character doesn't have the accumulated knowledge that you have, so they at least have to make a hige roll to start developing that kind of chemical advances. I study chemistry and food science, you have to be a prodigy and have like 25 Int to come up with the formula of mustard gas on the fly 1000 years before its time.

Bill answers the question "Have you ever been to jail before?" with a kind of tired "Yup". The same Bill who plays as HIMSELF.

This actually shows a good point about not always calling for a roll if it's not needed

Which is pretty much 90% of the time for most DMs... Especially when it comes to things like lifting heavy things and Str based characters.

Yeah the systems are just models to make it easy to make fair decisions if you don't already have an idea of how it should go. Super useful if you are playing someone different from yourself too, but if everyone feels like "it just makes sense" then their is no reason for a ruling on it!
