The only problem with using these caps in a base station setup is, they then to back feed after the power supply is shut off! I tried one time and as soon as I shut the power supply off, the cap started to back feed into the power supply. Need to have a switch inline between power supply and cap to prevent that from happening! Other then that another great video Rooster, I run 2 500 Farad caps in my mobile. They are great for taking the strain off your charging system

Batteries aren't able to dissipate 100% of their energy all at once like the supercap, nor do they recharge as fast. However, depending on battery size the supply of energy will be more dense if that makes sense. If you truly want the best of both worlds, a lithium battery is the answer. They function like a combination of supercap and battery bringing the best of both worlds.

I have a 7k rms system and have two xs power d3400 batteries and was looking to get a third or a sb500. I have a 320 amp alternator but still get voltage drops to high 12’s low 13’s at idle. Probably going to go with the sb500 so the alternator don’t have to charge a third battery

I did. My tacoma had 327,000 miles on it when it sold. I believe I replaced that alt at 275,000 around a week or so after I started using a midnight special 700.

no, you saw it recharge in the video. If you were trying to charge the cap from being completely dead and let it surge all at once then yes. For example, when you receive a cap it is sitting generally around 4-5v maybe even less, it varies. XS Power provides a 1-2 amp light bulb with leads. You connect one end of this lead to your charging source (power supply, battery, etc) and the other lead to the hot terminal of your cap. What this does is prevents the cap from drawing all it can at once to charge itself. During normal use the cap will recharge itself nearly instantly and not draw maximum current. If you watch the video you will see when I unkey after speaking into the mic, the cap draws 80 amps and quickly draws less and less, recharging almost instantly.

@@Rooster_Radio Yes, but on a 150+ amp power supply. For example, I use an 85 amp supply so i suppose it would trip the crowbar circuit unless i didn't discharge too much at a time. Just a thought experiment.

It's percentage based. A supercap hooked to an 80 amp power supply isn't going to pull the same current upon recharge as a 150. The capacitor cant store more energy than its charging source
