Wow, what sheer power and confidence exuded by one Mr. Andrew Partridge. So strange he would eventually succumb to stagefreight to paralyze him so much into ever performing live again, with the exception of the 1989 Letterman appearance. Still, we're all human and don't always have things go as planned, but I commend Andy and Colin and Gregory to continue making some of the most unique, and in many ways, underappreciated music from any rock/pop band ever. So many friends missed out on seeing XTC, except for ones that were born before say 1965 or so. They didn't become as widely known here in the States until probably the first Dukes album and Skylarking. One other note. Terry Chambers does not get a lot of recognition for his most amazing contributions behind the kit! Wow! I think after Terry left, a little bit of the luster may have dimmed, but the boys just dealt with session drummers from there on out. Of course Prairie Prince and Pat Mastelotto the two most noted. As well as the catchy and clever songwriting, I was lured to XTC because of the rhythm section of Colin and Terry. Man, they were tight, as were both Andy and Gregory! Just the way that the former pairing locks into a tight, pounding, and swinging groove, while the latter pairing jingle and jangle their textural riffs and chords to fill the listeners' ears. All of them through the Chambers era (including briefly Barry Scott) have all been as good nearly as the sum of their parts. But as a whole, XTC were as talented as a majority of the 80s cheese pop and rock of that foregone era. Outside of Dear God and Skylarking, they never had their real big breakout in America. Yet much harder to do if you are not a current touring act. Have to depend on album sales and radio play. I would mostly ever hear XTC on college radio and not the corporate main rock/pop stations. I don't think "Dear God" was encouraged to be played on the big FM stations especially in the Southeastern US, where I live. The first time I got turned onto XTC was through the Dukes of Stratosphear. Loved the compilation album of their 2 studio albums. Blew my mind, and through them is how I essentially got introduced to the Almighty X! Bless all of you for your amazing songwriting and musicianship.

One of my favorite songs, and one of my favorite bands, ever. Andy could write the best lyrics, just straight to the heart of it.

Absolutely a fantastic Andy P. lyric. I couldn't agree more.

Great subject matter in the lyrics. One of my all time favourite bands. Saw them in Brisbane on the world's largest sprung dance floor at Cloud Land Ball Room 1980. Pogoing like Watutsi for two hours off our faces on ecstasy (appropriately enough)... what a gig, what a band. They brought joy and energy and I'll never forget that hot sweaty night. Magic

favourite line: they thought it was just a boys club badge he wore. these guys got me thru the 80s!!!!! The wit, the melodies, almost too clever for their own good!

This is one of their last ever live performances. Andy seems fine. On LP the Bass of Colin rules the track.

Had the good fortune to see these guys play back in 1980 with the Police and Oingo Boingo. Became a full-fledged XTCer with English settlement.
