Wild to think Colin was only 27 when he wrote this. You'd think he'd be at least 50-something.

Terrific track - always thought XTC were a jazz band masquerading as a post punk new wave thing...

yeah... i hear that 'tone', that jackson-tone, that brit-ish, jazz-hands-type-voice-action, mate: what a warm tone tho...slightly less 'angry' than young joe ...

Why did this lovely song get sidelined? Well, we might add 2 and 2 and make 5. Glad it is out there finally free from the shackles of the time. :)

Colin had four great songs and Andy ran out of time for the fourth so we could hear "Funk Pop A Roll." :-/ That's Andy.
It was on the B side of 'the loving'. It stood out on that ep and I've never forgotten it. The lyrics mean so much more to an older man.

@@stefanotoccafondi8093 y'think so tho? like i wouldn't be-so-sure, but dave had to play somethin', it's just most of what i hear, happens more often than not, to be andy, see? so you mean they put andy on piano, or maybe dave on piano, right, mate?
@tinfoilhatter2 жыл бұрын
@@stefanotoccafondi8093 hey, i believe it, if y'say so:: but like, who told y'that, mate? andy would be in there, so what's he playin' then, yeah?

i think what makes more sense is dave on piano! and andy playing lead guitar. considering dave did most of the orchestral arrangements of their later albums. pretty sure dave is on keys inLadybird and Me and the Wind, and I'm almost certain dave played piano on Skylarking. it sounds like andy's playing style anyways on the guitar solo. more angular and jangly than dave's playing.

@@piratexander well, it's a lovely song, of colin's , yeah and if i had to guess, i would say they're the best, the xtc featuring whichever drummer they happened to be usin', heck yes~

it was a b-side to The Loving, so Oranges and Lemons. It was originally written during the Mummer era and got rejected by the rest of the band for some reason tho.
