I bought the Times Square album one afternoon, I had never heard any of the bands. When I listened to the album that night, my life changed...

That album changed my life too! At least a little bit. I felt I wasted my money! Except for this song. Take This Town. The rest were either outright bad or I was familiar with them already.

I bought the 'Times Square' soundtrack double LP for this song.

Times Square. A total sleeper movie that developed a cult punk rock/new wave following. The soundtrack has groups like XTC, the Cure, and the Ramones that were just getting started and paving the way. I hadn't heard this catchy little tune by XTC in ages!

Grinding Halt by the Cure on that album. Sounds nothing like later Cure...thank God.

I'd forgotten just how good this one was. Quintessential early-DG-era XTC.

This is the first song I ever heard by the group, and I became a total XTC nut for years. Still love the group. There's so much going on in this song. It stood head and shoulders above the rest of the music on the Times Square soundtrack, much of which is good nonetheless. A pop gem by Andy and the guys. Thanks for posting.

Times Square was the first movie I saw. I remember that this song of the insert song was very shocking.😊

My god, my kingdom for any service to stream this song. I've been waiting for years for this song or the Times Square soundtrack to become available on Spotify, Apple or Amazon and it just. will. not. happen. I mean, it's not even on any available XTC comp. Thank god I have it on vinyl.

It's on the 'Rag & Bone Buffet' album.

For some reason the record label who owns the rights to the soundtrack will not release it. Not sure why, as it would sell like crazy and make them a lot of money. Go figure. 🫠

A missing link between Beatles, 60's, 70's, punk, post punk and 90's indie generation. A great band XTC

Patti Smith's epic 'Pissing in the river' is a beautifully sculpted song, Delivered with conviction, love & pain as a shamelessly naked person; vulnerable, yet a talented vocal angel and delicious performer. Thanks Patti. you've made a difference as a musician, artist and social innovator. Respect. Douglas

This was the first song I heard. It was one of those moments where you never forget where you were and what you were doing. And yes I too first heard it from the 'Times Square' album. Oh what a movie and for XTC to be on the same album as "I'm your damn dog now". Holy shit that was aberrant as hell.

The world needs to wake up to "take this town". The world should have woken up a long time ago to XTC!

I got this ep in a National Record Mart (or some such store) in a mall of all places... probably in 1989 or 1990. I LOVE this song. It's a great ep. So glad I found it!

Okay I am chronalogically confused about the year this song was released. How can it have been released in 1985 if it appeared as the soundtrack to Times Square and in the film in the year 1980?
@echorich7 жыл бұрын
Wake Up was a UK 12"/EP that included Take This Town, Making Plans For Nigel, Senses Working Overtime and Sgt. Rock as well as Homo Safari 4 - Mantis On Parole.
