I have this exact leak, or at least so I was told by the mechanic. But it's leaking much more slowly; I lose about an inch of coolant in the reservoir every 1K miles or so. So, I've put off fixing it. I've saved this video for whenever I get around to it. And thanks for showing the process of reattaching the throttle body. Greetings from Virginia.

Hello from KY. One day all of a sudden my Xterra’s temperature gauge started climbing. Turns out I was low on coolant. So I did a pressure test on it and found coolant residue and fresh coolant very very slowly leaking out this part. It’s covered in green. Thanks for the video so I can see what I need to do.

Hey there i have a 3.3L 1998 Pathfinder, 174,000 miles, and my setup looks identical for the thermo-element. Question though, somehow mine is leaking motor oil from around that thermo-element seal location, very slowly, about 8 to 10 drops per hour of operation. Can oil access that thermo-element to do that? I am scratching my head. Using my finger i can wipe oil saturation the mating location where the thermo-element seats onto the throttle body. It is not coolant. I am sure. It's also losing oil slowly from checking dipstick, and i don't have any other leaks. I'm scratching my head about this! 😮

Get a good scanner and see what the % is on the iac at idle. My iac is totally dead, but it still runs lol. A cheap scanner will show an iac code if it's bad. No code, then look at other possibilities like a dirty MAF sensor, bad TPS sensor.

Can you do this repair without removing the throttle body? I ask because the hoses attached are "glued" on after so many years, and the only way to replace the hoses is to remove the plenum which is a job of it's own. I'd rather just leave the throttle body on if I can.

Hi. Did you find that the small pin that comes into contact with the thermal unit was bent? Mine seems to be bent and almost sliding off the edge of its contact point on the thermal unit. I was wondering if it will come back into alignment one the element starts moving properly again or if I have to bend it back into place? Thanks.

@scottyfixer452
@scottyfixer452 3 жыл бұрын
Mine was bent. I bent it back to a 90 degree bend . Started the cold engine and watched the plunger arm push the idle cam until it got to temp. There are two marks on the idle cam one for hot and one for cold. They plunger should push that cam to the hot mark if it’s adjusted or bent to the right position. After I let it warm up I reset my base timing to 10btdc and it runs so good smooth idle great acceleration

@bikerboysrus1
@bikerboysrus1 Жыл бұрын
All it does is run high idle till the vehicle warms up then the pressure pushes it out a certain amount to lower idle as your engine is heat soaked. That's why the screw is there, it extends the exact same amount at proper temp every time so you can fine tune your idle. To delete it just plumb the intake hose into the return hose. If you delete it I would suggest you let the truck warm up properly every time below 50°
@bikerboysrus1
@bikerboysrus1 Жыл бұрын
To be fair you should always let it get idle up to temp ...just more important up north....don't mind my rambling 😊
