SUPER helpful! There's a couple of really basic things I wish you had covered. Maybe they are in another video. 1) How does your laser know where you've placed the wood to be engraved??? 2) How to set the proper height for the laser head. a-on flat surfaces and b-not flat surfaces (i.e. a belt buckle, etc.). You are very welcome. Lightburn is a great program for sure so I would suggest maybe another look at it when you are more comfortable but XCS isn’t too bad either for a proprietary program.

Well, finally info on XCS. I've got the D1 (not Pro) and as time has gone on, it worked fine with LightBurn. Then came the upgrades, and now LightBurn will not respond to the power settings. It burns very hot regardless of the settings. So, needless to say XCS is all I've got. It operates beautifully with Xtool's software, so the machine is not a issue. However, upgrades to firmware, etc....LightBurn just doesn't work. Xtool said on their site that sometimes LightBurn and the D1 WON"T work and it's an anomaly and they are not responsible. So, at any rate, I'm glad you have this video, it's very helpful and hope no one runs into this "anomaly" doesn't happen to them.

Wow! You have made this 69 year old fella very happy. A very, very good explanation of Laserbox, I have learned so much from your presentation. I have struggled for 3 years with my Co2 K40 laser and Inkscape to the point where I was about to give up. My K40 died on me and I bought the 10W D1. This is a hobby for me and if I make some pocket money along the way then that's cool. I myself will always be 6' 2" I don't know how warm 80f is but I know freezing is 32F, I Do enjoy 28C days here in Ontario 15 KLM from Lake Ontario. And when I go to the deli I will order half pound of Montreal smoke meat. I got the extended D1 Pro and have problems setting up the Absolute coordinate page. I got the machine set on extended, but when I place the picture in it (a 90mm x 80mm - X100, Y100) it tells me "element is placed out of processing area".

I'm sure you will get it. Essentially the whole machine has a coordinate system where the X goes left to right and the Y goes back to front. The (0,0) position of the system is at the HOME position in the back left corner. So if you wanted to burn at (x200, y200) that means the laser goes right 200mm (X position) and forward 200mm (Y position). That way if you had a grid burned onto a spoil board you would be able place something to engrave at that location and know exactly where the work is going to engrave. Hope the cleared it up a little bit and not just confused you more.

Yes having problems with scoring and then cutting out a pattern after each other. it will do one or the other. PLEASE HELP for example : I bought a Santa Claus image, it has a score then a cut out on the same image. how can I make it work . sorry new to xtool. thank you John

I have the same issue. I have a piece (circular calendar) that uses score, engrave, and cut, and it is impossible to get the piece to do all three functions during one session. Furthermore, if I manage to get 2 of the three functions assigned when I go to the 3rd one, it all changes to whatever that might be, such as a cut or engrave. I think the problem is that it does not recognize layers. It sees the project as a one-layer image or something. Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

The "super long" is exactly like it sounds like, There are extensions you can purchase which makes the machine double long. Also going above the maximum lines per cm for your machine wont really ruin the quality of the imagine that badly, it would act more like the settings for multiple passes and just make it look darker.

Hello! I am having issues with my Xtool D1 Pro Laser. I received it and tried it, the first try was perfect. Then the second time I tried it wouldn't work. The laser would move around but the laser light barely had any strength. It would move around as if it was doing the job and would take the amount of time the project would take, however there were no marks on the plywood or anything and the light was very very weak. You could barely see. I emailed customer service and it has now been a 3 month battle or recommendations and changes they want me to make which I have but nothing has solved the issue. I went ahead and tried another laser head which is the one for metals. I did 1 dog tag that came out beautiful. I went ahead and tried to do another dog tag....same thing happened....the light was too weak barely visible, the laser would move around as if it was doing de project but nothing would engrave. I didn't change anything on the setting from first project to second. I was working with pre establish material settings. Power speed and all was verified and still nothing. Do you have any idea what it could be or how to fix it?

But while watching the video I saw that in my software screen are not all the options and commands like the ones you have, for example the grid array and many other option like the ones you have at the top. You actually have the new xTool Creative Space setup. They have recently upgraded to a BETA 2.0 version of the software and I haven't had a chance to fully dive into the new one since it is still in flux. The settings are still there but many of them have moved from the top to the right column.

I created my own image of a pickleball in Creative space by making individual circle cuts. However, the laser is cutting out the perimeter circle first, instead of the smaller inner circles. How do get the laser to make the exterior cut last?

Great video but Im having trouble rounding the edges of the vector drawing. As soon as I close the shape it becomes a box (Like anytime you select an object and I cannot click on a vector point to soften or curve it. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Hello. You should be able to double click on the closed shape and see the dots that you made the shape with. Then in you doube click on the dots it should make it in to a soft corner that you can adjust.

I know there was an issue with the older version of xcs. Try downloading the newer version and see if that fixes it. If it doesn’t I have had more luck importing DXF files so maybe you can convert them into that first and then open it.

I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to about the spot size but I think you are talking about the enabling the Laser point when you want to frame. The enable button turns on the actual laser point and the value is the laser power when you enable it. You want this value to be really low, like less than 5% since this is the actual laser that can burn the surface if that value is too high.

Outline is only recognizing the outside of my images and its killing me. For instance, I have an 8, and use the magic wand to remove any outter coloring and the inside of the 8s, it is only outlining the outside shape, even at 0.0. Is there a setting I messed up somehow?

Nope. You are not missing anything. There is a bug in the software, hope it's fixed in the next version.

The settings that you are seeing are based on the type of machine that you have and which version of the laser you are using. Hello. Why can’t you currently engrave multiple pieces at once? You should check out the video on my channel about absolute coordinates. Sadly the presets are not as nice as they were with Laserbox. You used to pick basswood for example, then pick the thickness, 3mm, 5mm, etc. This app only has "3mm basswood".

newbie here...my creative space keeps putting what i want cut into the bottom right corner of a huge box with empty space. its making it impossible to gauge how big the actual cut will be. anyone know why this is or how i can fix it?

Just make sure there is nothing in the top left corner of your workspace. When you go to start or process your job it will zoom out the the extent of all of the pieces you have. If you frame your job and the frame goes over a large area and not just where you expect to be cutting then there is something up there.

I have a project on creative space and when I try to print it with my D1, it does not do anything. It will let me frame sometimes and at other times it doesn"t do anything. I have tried to burn a project in laser box and it works fine. So it is just with Creative space that I am having problems. I have reloaded Creative space several time and did the software and firmware and still will not work. Help me please

Hello Bret. This might be a good question for the xTool Facebook Group. I'm not really sure what the issue might be when upgrading the original D1 to XCS. If you have a pro version I know there were issues if you used Laserbox Basic first instead of XCS but again I'm not sure. If there is a problem I'm sure it had shown up at some point in that group.

I have just bought an XTool D1 pro and have bought a couple of downloadable projects in the correct format but when I open them there are no instructions that tell the laser what should be scored, engraved or cut and I can’t see a easy way to do this without going to each part and manually input this which would take ages. It’s hard to know without seeing the files but hopefully that information would have already been in the files when it was created. I unfortunately don’t know any other way for creative space to just guess what’s correct. If this was Lightburn I would just say be sure to open instead of import a file so it keeps all of that data intact but I don’t think creative space is like that.

Hi. The newest version of the software has changed around quite a few things. I have been waiting for the software to get out of it's BETA phase before updating any videos on how it works. It's still somewhat restrictive in what you can do. If you really want the most feature rich software that you can use with the machine I would recommend checking out Lightburn. I have a whole video going over how to work in Lightburn with the D1 on my channel.

Please can you help me? ive merged two images together (a face and then another image of a hat on top of its head). On my main screen the hat is in front to cover the top of the head but when it goes onto the preview they have swapped positions. I have made sure the main image is in front but it just keeps changing. Does anyone know what im doing wrong?

It does seem like the image layering is not working as expected. I just tried it myself and mine is doing the same thing. I would suggest editing the image outside XSC and bringing it in as you want it. If you don't have Photoshop you can use a free program called Photopea online as well.

I know this sounds dumb but try to click it in and out again. Also even though this seems to have nothing to do with it try turning off your flame detection and limit switches. I know that shouldn't matter but I have gotten peoples machines to frame that way.

I would either reach out to xTool to see if they might be able to troubleshoot your issue or even better I would suggest checking out the xTool D1 official Facebook group. There are 1000's of people on there and some might have even run into the same issues that you have. I'm sure you could find some help there but I would also make sure to use the search function to see if anyone else has already asked about an got help with that issue.

Is there a way to addd txt under photo and combine so it burns together ? For example if you had “Mt Rushmore” text under the photo and wanted to engrave the photo with the title ?

You wouldn’t need to and couldn’t combine it but if you had an image and text in the same project it would burn both at the same time. Unlike Lightburn you can’t pick the order in which it performs the action but I believe it would burn the image first and then the text.

Just got my xtool d1 pro and I have 2 issues. When trying to frame it only goes up an down when I try to go right or left manually with the arrows I hear a click but nothing happens. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I would check you belts and your stepper motors on your x axis to make sure nothing is catching or loose. Make sure the limit switches sensors are not caught on a wire or something. Otherwise I would either ask on the XTool Facebook group or send a support ticket to XTool directly. It’s not an issue I have seen personally.

How do you do a power speed test on Creative Space?

It's in the Array button in Creative space. You basically have to start with your own image or box and you can setup an power/speed array with it.

I believe if you change the speed in the process window where you frame from it should slow down the framing but I could be wrong. I don't know anywhere else where that would be.

I have been using CorelDraw files in my New Hermes 25 watt laser for 20 years. My laser went down and I have bought a Xtool D1. How do I import my many CDR (CorelDraw) files into a file usable in the Xtool laser?? So far I have not found a way that does it correctly. When I convert a CDR to a JPG or VGS I get lots of lines not in original art in CDR. I can not loose 20 years of art.Anyone know how?? Thanks

I'm assuming you mean SVG but if that doesn't work then I'm honestly not sure. All of the CDR files that I have converted have been to SVG. You could try to convert to DXF and see if you have better luck though. Also I'm not sure if you are exporting straight from CDR since I have never used that, the only way I have been converting those files is from online converters.

I'm looking to buy a laser and engrave mountains on a lazy Susan. Can this laser fit on a 2" piece of wood that is 16"?

This laser will not reach 16 inches in both directions. It will side to side (X Axis 430mm) but not the up and down (Y Axis 390-400 depending on the laser power you buy)

Lightburn is the clear winner here. It's really such a much better program with more features. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is seriously going to be using your lasers a lot.

My XCS works for everything except the frame function even after pressing the button, firm ware is good and current, update is current, if you push the button to start the project it works but you can’t frame a single thing it just sits there. Light on the button does it’s thing like it normal. It was working fine a week ago i shut everything down like normal to goto the store and my computer is not hooked up to wifi constantly so I fired it back up like normal and nothing had changed no updates for windows but that’s when XCS quit framing. If you can help great and thanks

I was able to fix someone else's issue with that by turning off the flame detector in the working parameters. Change the sensitivity to off. Not sure if that's your issue but I would try it out. Maybe also turn off the limit switches.

When I upload an image. Whether it is a jpg or png and do the outline, it doesn't outline what's in the center of the image to be cut. I see on yours the beagle part is also outlined in the middle. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I use the eraser to edit the image but it still doesn't show up in the cut.

You are not doing anything wrong. There seems to be an issue with the latest version of the build. I'm hoping that it is resolved with the next update of the software.

So when I engrave on Oak all it does is burn a black image so how do I go about getting it to look like a photo question

There are many different settings from greyscale to the different dithering modes. The speed and laser power also go a long way in determining how the image comes out and how dark it is. If you have an image I suggest a good setting is the Jarvis dithering mode. Then increase your speed and lower the laser power.

HEllo, its great video. I'm a beginner and on researching which machine has a user friendly interface, so far ive seen this is great but I also heard of ortur has a web ui called laser epxlorer (can use with master 2 >) is it capable as this XCS?

From what little I have used of Laser Explorer it’s SUPER basic. To xTools credit Creative Space has been expanding and updating their software to do more things. It’s still not a good as Lightburn but it’s getting pretty good for the beginners or casual users.
