the ridge's and bumps you got on the slate was already in the slate.. i have found that depending on what colour the slate is and location. makes a huge difference. slate is a shale ie mudstone.. and therefore can have a lot of debri in in them. i live in wales the land of slate.. sadly most of it is not good enough for engraving :) i wonder where the round coasters came from.. as they seem to be ones you had problems with.. i had a small slice of jade.. i was surprised it was able to also carve into that.. though it did start to fracture the back of it.. but it was a thin slice..

Yea. I'm a truck driver. I have been to ups facilities all over America. They have some on the worse package handling I have ever seen. They had boxes all over the ground by the docks that fell out during packing. Absolutely terrible. Ship FedEx if you can. And no I don't drive for fedex...

Hey, firstly great video, loved it. Secondly, I have a few question regarding the metal cutting, I noticed you sped up the video, could you give the estimate of how much time is needed for the earrings for example? I may want to start a business and I was wondering at what rate I could produce my designs.

Thanks for the good videos, we just received our F1 and want to do slate coasters. My question is with the bulk slate coaster varying thickness's. As a lifelong machinist I am trying to separate groups of raw coasters in groups of +/- .02 My wife sez I am being too critical. Is there a rule of thumb here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Great review. Thank you. I am thinking of getting an F1 Ultra. However, I have a question relating to the mean time before failure of the laser diode. What is the spares replenishment turnaround like? What is the production life of the machine? and so on..

Hi there, I’ve ordered my F1 Ultra and after seeing your video, am super excited. I currently have a LaserPecker 4, though this looks to be night and day better. On the LP4, I can laser directly onto glass mirror with a pretty decent effect, can the Ultra do this too? Have you tried it? Many thanks 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A few questions here, Nick: 1) What is a diode & fiber lasers? What do they do or don’t that they’re different 2) What is a galvo (?) laser? 3) Can you lightly laser engrave a shipping label on a box that’s ready to be shipped VS having to pay for a shipping label printer and the label paper to print shipping label? Etsy seller here, so just wondering 😊 4) Xtool currently has a combo package deal of the F1 and the S1. Do you know if they might have have a combo promo deal as well with the F1 Ultra and the S1? Thank you, Nick! God bless

@unstructuredMeans 5 ай бұрын
Seeing as you might not have googled this yet :) Diode vs Fiber mainly is different in their spectrum and the main thing to consider is diode = wood/food, fiber=metal if you have to choose then the choice would be co2 vs diode. laser engraving will never be better than printing so if you can print something then always print. The s1 is a 40w laser so if you can get the combo that technically doubles your capacity for the general engraving work you would be doing in my opinion.

i was thinking of getting one to do leather patches, the engraving looks great, but how does it do with cutting through the leather? can it cut through the adhesive backing too?
@SixEightWoodworks

It can definitely cut through it. I haven’t tested on ones with the backing yet. I imagine it wouldn’t be an issue. You could always run multiple passes. If I get a chance to test it out I’ll let you know.

Hi, I thought I made this comment on your most recent video. I'm not sure if you see comments on old video comments. I'm glad I discovered your channel! I recently purchased a XTool P2 and wanted to start leveraging acrylic. Do you have experience using 1/2" acrylic and if so, what settings do you use for both cutting and engraving 1/2" acrylic? btw, I'll be using cast Acrylic. Thanks!

They gave a lot of suggested settings to the early users. However, I always like to run my own as there’s loads of variables. I fully anticipate them to have a wide selection of material tests and suggested settings for Ultra users.

The price point is too steep for me as a pure hobbyist with no plans on starting a business, still I'd consider it a fair price for what you get, compared with the actual market. A single 20W fibre galvo without a lot of features the Ultra comes with is around 3k at least. And while I agree on the possibility side with you, I doubt the traditional machinery will hold up with portability. Speed factor is really heavy a material thing, overall I'd consider it a tie.

Thank you! I have a toug question for you... let's say there's this guy and he doesn't know squat about lasers... and he just walked out of a cave he's lived in all his life... but he wants to start something without knowing exactly what to start making... and he can only have one machine... overall, which machine is more versatile with different functions and applications and materials... the P2S... or the F1 Ultra? Thanks! (6:8 "Here am I! Send me." 🙋‍♂)
@SixEightWoodworks
@SixEightWoodworks 2 ай бұрын
Totally depends on what you’re hoping to do. Cutting and bigger projects the P2S for sure. Engraving all materials and speed for medium and small items, the F1Ultra. Love them both. The combo of the P2S and original F1 is a great deal and a bit of a compromise. But they’re all great!

@@SixEightWoodworks Thank you sir! That's pretty much what I figured. Disclaimer- my wife and I bought the F1 Ultra a couple weeks ago, we've had so much stuff going on that we haven't unboxed it yet, but my wife was starting to get buyers remorse- maybe we chose the wrong one. After watching and listening to you I know we made the right choice. I really appreciate you putting your faith into your projects! I would've used your affiliate link had we not already purchased. Another question, as a wood guy I would imagine you might also use a CNC router on some projects? I'm new to that too but it seems if I wanted to do a little bigger and deeper wood projects a cnc router would work better for some of that? Do you have any videos on that? Well, thank you again Sir, God bless you and your house

The F1 can do 90% of what was shown in this video...If you are into embossing and deep engravings that take forever the Ultra is for you...If you own already an F1, I suggest you buy a fiber laser for less than what the Ultra costs...KZbin influencers are not paid moneywise but are gifted a free machine in exchange for a positive review,and not an honest review...I would wait before buying a pricey machine like this,wait for someone who will give an honest review...

Wow. What a Machine. But the working area is a bit small for me… It world have been great if you actually test or demonstrate how accurate the positioning with camera is - I have a setup with my second camera already now, on a stand into lightburn and it’s utterly unusable: I have various Material thicknesses and basically I need to Re-calibrate every single day. Even if it’s the same material as the day before. It’s so unusable that i just don’t use it anymore. And even best case IF it works it’s perhaps 0,5 cm accurate. Please test by lasering out a pattern or crosshairs and then take a picture/look at the picture and see if it is at the position where it should be.

This is a joke! For a 5-6k you can get full blown workshop not just one machine with fancy buttons... I guess this must be a price for "creative beginers" Full gantry of that machine doesn't cost more then $500 to make in your own shop, more sturdy and precise. Now, 2 laser modules of 20w I can't tell as I 'm not in that business but I doubt they cost 5k. I work in CNC world and this I shameless scam. For this amount, you can buy amazing lathe and mill + buncha other tools to make whatever you want without any limitation. I guess you are paying not to clean your desk after work. Wanted to go in details but that would be just exhausting. Cheers!
@caradellinowazer2988
@caradellinowazer2988 7 ай бұрын
Apples and oranges and a matter of use case. IMHO there is no other product like this on the market save the F1 in some aspects. There are things you can't do with a gantry vs a galvo and vice versa. If portability is a fact, no chance you can hold up with a full blown workshop. Compared to a single open 20w fibre I consider it a fair price, when you throw in the many built-in features and on top of it the diode. Still it's not a machine for me. The price point makes is an investment rather than a purchase, so not manageable without a small business...or a bigger income than mine. If money wasn't an issue I'd have one by now.
