All diode lasers can only cut dark acrylic, if you need to cut clear acrylic, you need a CO2 laser.

The music during the cutting and the FF is produced perfectly. This is a Tremendous advancement over the Automation 35W CO2 laser from a decade ago that was the size of a refrigerator with NO software just a print bed program in native Chinese. You had to import & build all the files to engrave in Corel Draw and save them as jpgs and then import them via USB 2 cables in order to produce an engraving; which was good for very large files. Cutting on those old machines was very poor and used up the expensive CO2 laser tube very quickly. Also, You should show how this xTool does on 3 and 6 mm acrylic sheets of material.

I've been interested in the M1 as potentially replacing the features of a Cricut cutter and a laser engraver in one piece of equipment. Though i have concerns maybe it compromises both features. So Im looking forward to the watching the review, thanks! I also feel with xTool they are continually releasing new machines and equipment that aren't always upgradable, so in my mind I wonder if a M2 is just around the corner. The software is proprietary and also doesn't work on a Linux machine which is a concern for me. But still, it's the type of machine Im interested in ☺

air purifiers should come has standard on all of these new laser engravers.... it should be part of the kit. an air purifier is has important as having a plug ready installed.

Maybe not forced to buy one what if you already have mitigation in your workshop I wouldn’t want to pay for a purifier I wouldn’t use. But having one available to people that this is there only machine then yes they should buy the purifier and add to there machines.

Most of the air-purifier you can buy from these companies are marginal at best. For your health, you need a much more expensive, advanced purification system. Also, the filters on this machines are very expensive, clog up quickly, and have to be replaced often if you cut a lot of wood, or especially MDF. If you can smell something, you are not purifying enough. Short of investing in a quality high-end air purifying system, these machines should be vented to the outside, or used outside with a fan blowing away the harmful fumes. Just my opinion. Caveat Emptor.

This one at least has basic safety features like an enclosure and exhaust, but I'm wondering if the enclosure actually blocks the wavelengths of light that that the laser operates in? Way too many flagrantly unsafe open bed laser engravers out there, which blows my mind.

Yes, this is the real blocking acrylic, not just orange tinted.

This is very similar to my Emblaser2 10 w engraver yet cuts through the wood so much better! Do you have any idea why not all 10W diode lasers are not the same?

Yes, not all 10W laser modules have the same cutting power, I have tested some 10W modules which are weaker than this xTool M1.

Thanks for posting the video and sharing your review. I bought the machine but mine makes a lot of humming sound when sitting idle. It seems to be coming from the motherboard fan. Did your machine do that as well?

Great review! Looks like you swapped the material at 6:11 in the video. Clearly the circular cutout wasn’t going to happen it was way too close to the edge. Might want to let people know that a 455nm laser will not engrave stainless steel, it will only mark the surface. If you want to engrave metals you will need a 1064nm source.

It was the same job, just the camera angle made the edge of the cover looks like the edge of the machine, then, I just move the camera to another angle.

Hi, I’m interested in buying an xTool M1, so I just watched your video review which was really useful, thank you. I just wondered if you could help clarify something? The M1 spec states a 385x300mm (15x12 inch) working area, but is that the max size of the material sheet BEFORE cutting or just the max size of the cutting area? For example, can I insert a sheet of 8mm MDF into the unit that is say 400x310mm and then design a shape to cut inside the 385x300 working area? The reason I ask is that the shape I need to produce could be 300x300mm so it would be nice to be able to rough cut a slightly larger sheet to then make sure the finished shape can be cut out allowing for a small border. Hope that makes sense?

As it's just a 10W laser, I guess 5-6 mm should be fine, but dark/black only, not clear acrylic.

No, I don't think a 10W diode laser can cut brass or other metals. Even a 40W laser can only cut up to 0.1 mm with slow speed and produces bad results.

You can get the very small rectangular bar type pendants and I’ve tried it and works great!! Just have to use the zoom in option for the camera to make sure the text in in the proper position!

No, diode lasers cannot cut clear plexiglass or acrylic. They can only cut dark-colored ones. If you need to cut clear plexiglass or acrylic, you need a CO2 laser. You can watch my xTool P2(CO2) video.

Good Job As someone new considering getting a laser cutter/engraver, I would like to see a direct comparison between the Gweike and the xTool M1. I would like to see a direct comparison between ease of use, functions/features, total cost of ownership. Which has a better air purifier, quality of the images using each of their own software. What are the replacement cost for the laser, airlifters etc. I know we are comparing a diode to a Co2 but I am not sure which is better for a beginner. Until now I thought Glow forge was my only options for a self contained desktop laser with a camera and easy to use, now there is a choice, so the question is which one. Thoughts?

Just wanted to post a warning here. PVC sheets and vinyl can in fact be cut with a laser, however cutting products containing PVC with a laser generates hydrochloric acid and toxic fumes such as Chlorine gas. Having an air purifier is an option, but the fumes are so acidic that it will eventually corrode the machine and purifier.

The laser doesn't cut the vinyl. It's a hybrid laser. Meaning, it has a blade, too. It's all on the xTool website.
