I wanted to thank you for sharing your expertise. I was going crazy trying to find good information in my manual. I did both carburetors with the information and it now idles smoothly at 900 RPM and accelerates and runs smoothly at regular street speeds and highway speeds. Without this video I would never have found the jets that were the problem. The diagrams in manual did not indicate inside under that tube for "choke". Thanks so much.

@crabblike No worries, I know how it goes. I've since got them done and back on the bike. She runs! Dealing with a lean condition on the rear cylinder (plug is white), but I read that is typical for a V-twin on the rear cylinder. But to be fair, have not had it on the highway to give a true test. The "needle valve chamber" I was referring to is the round housing the needle valve rides in. The schematics call it and the needle valve a "needle valve assly." Just replaced the needle valve and jets.

Make sure you carefully inspect all the related hardware also, like the intake boots and gaskets, vacuum and fuel lines, etc. for cracks and good fitment.

@MOTOFRANK2 , Version 2 fits '83 920's and '84 & '85 700's and 1000's and take different carb holders than v.1. There are 3 different versions. Version 2 should have green teflon coating on the slides.

The cap can be pulled by drilling a small hole in the center of it, then use a screw as a 'puller'.

@9b8 Sorry I haven't been keeping up, too many hours at work I guess, I'm not sure what you mean by 'needle valve chamber', all I can suggest is try to find a schematic on Mikuni's site.

The one with more holes should go to the rear cylinder, as it runs a bit hotter and can handle a richer (higher fuel/air ratio) mixture.

I have a XV535 with the stock carbs (Mikuni BDS34 I think?) on it. It has been yet another victim of long-term storage with fuel in the bowls. I'm going through it and got a couple rebuild kits which come with the entire needle valve assembly. I can't see how to remove the needle valve chamber from this model carb? And the Clymer manual skips right over this detail. What gives?

How did you take the cap out of the hole to remove the pilot screw. The screw you measured the depth of.

Any idea which main jet tube goes in the front carb and which goes in the rear carb? One has more holes in it and I mixed them up during my carb rebuild.

Sorry it took so long, I have had a lot of other stuff going on here. I'll look it up and try to find an answer for you. (Unless you already figured it out.) Again, sorry.

@21nal Sounds like it's still running lean. Do you have stock exhaust or drag pipes?

Is it possible to get a copy of your carb diagram?
@crabblike4 жыл бұрын
Steve Nixon the diagram is easily available by doing an image search for. “XV750 carburetor diagram”. Just be aware the year makes a difference because the early ones used Hitachi carbs and others used Mikuni.

It's been so long since I had carbs like this apart, all I can say is it follows the tube from the vacuum chamber down into the carb body. More than that I can't remember, sorry.
