As a live sound engineer i can tell you, that a fixed battery sucks. Just imagine you're late on a gig and the bass player turned off the power at the rehearsal place. Now you're at the stage with an empty in ear system which can't be charged fast enough for the whole gig. Thee is another problem with the only 6 frequency bands. On modern stages you've got tons of wireless systems, which are all located in a very small frequency band and they all interfere in some way. You've got wireless microphones, wireless transmitters for guitars/bass/etc and then you've got wireless IEM. There is a chance that some of your fixed frequencies are not usable at your location and if your band has not only one of these systems it could make you hard times. Another important feature would be a built-in limiter, which could prevent hearing damage from loud feedbacks etc. Greetings from Germany, and fuck you Glen!

@@1972LittleC I can only speak for Germany, but 2,4ghz is perfectly fine to use. Most of the 2,4 GHz wireless solutions are digital, which has the advantage of being less prone to interfere with other frequencies (digital bits [ 0 & 1 ] are easier to detect than a analog signal in a bunch of noise) It could cause problems, when being in a crowded place like a fair or something like this.

I always have to stand far stage left for the band I use IEM's with. Having the ability to move certain things in the stereo mix is invaluable to me. I have a drummer directly to the right of me. Being able to move signals around lets me sit them where I can hear everyone very distinctly and not have to be so loud.

Strong recommend for inexpensive earbuds for in-ear monitoring goes to the Etymotic MK5 Isolator. Use the foam mounts instead of the silicone flanges and you have about 25dB outside sound reduction.

I use hard wired in ears now and having them stereo helps a lot. I pan the other guitar to the left (some, not hard) and myself to the right. Helps me hear both guitars together. Though, for $250, I wouldn't expect stereo, so still a good deal, especially for single guitar bands.

People that say mono feed is fine for in ear monitoring usually have never tried a stereo in ear mix that was panned and balanced correctly . Once you have a stereo in ear mix balanced correct its a night and day difference. Is stereo feed necessary? no, but given the choice id choose stereo over mono if available. Of course having a monitor engineer that knows his shit also makes a huge difference.

Absolutely! No argument here! Just don’t always take the mix engineer’s word for it. If he tells you there’s no benefit in stereo over mono, and stereo is available/possible. He is just being lazy.

"You're not gonna be panning your guitars anyway" - Eh yeah, you'll want to, it's sooo much more effective to have your in-ears panned out. It gives you mcuh more clarity and ability to actualy hear what's going on. You can start out mono just fine but it's definitely not the default or the best. That said, this thing is way cheaper than any good stereo option so it's kinda moot.

Could you and Alex do a demo on recording keyboard in metal. I generally take the stereo output of the synth. And record it panned dead center. If I'm doubling bass parts with a Korg Mono Poly I place the keyboard bass tone in the center . Pan the bass guitar hard L/R with mild distortion and of course fresh strings . You can get interesting effects panning special effect sounding keyboard sounds ala Pink Floyd .

Could you create a video on how to clean the strings, so I dont have to replace them. I heard you can clean then a certain way to make them last forever, but cant seem to find any videos on it. I heard new strings make the bass too tense to play and they sound too rigged on top of that, so thats not an option. Thanks!

Have you checked out the new boss waza Bluetooth headphones that are actually an amplifier? Those things but pretty cool they have an app to where you can change all your sound cabinets and your stage presence so it sounds like everything is behind you like you were standing on a stage. When you move your head the sound changes as if it would onstage walking away from the amplifier in a 3d effect.

I would recommend the CCA C16 InEar Headphones. They cost circa 100 bucks and you get 8 drivers. For the same prive, you get only one driver from the well known companies. I compared the to the Shure SE215 and the CCAs are the clear winner for me. Also Guns&Guitars has a nice video about budget InEar Monitoring Headphones if you want some other recommendations.

Hi Glen! My band is at the point where we've decided to go full wireless with in ears etc, of course preferably via the cheapest route, don't judge. My question is - how does this system work when there's four/five other transmitters plugged into the same mixer? Will there be any interferences between units? In the past I've worked with other cheap IEM units and despite having 16 channels we still experienced audio bleed from one unit to another.
@fischermao3732
@fischermao3732 4 жыл бұрын
there would have no interference each other as long as they are in a different channel, plus, the good things for this system is, one transmitter can work with many different receivers, which means, you can share the same mix with your bandmates if you want.
@mattsorsson
@mattsorsson 4 жыл бұрын
@@fischermao3732 thx for the response! Good to know. Unfortunately we're a bunch of snobs and everyone needs a mix tailored for himself. Our vocalist hits some sweet false notes when he's got any trace of lead melodies coming from the wedges, and naturally no one needs this bullshit in their mix xD plus, being able to judge the drummer's sloppy double kick patterns on the fly 👌 so it looks like unfortunately its one unit for each one of us. All in all a clean signal without any overlaping interferences is most crucial, just a stable sound - there's nothing more frustrating when suddenly your guitar dissapears from your mix.

I’m using a Behringer powerplay personal monitor system that already adds about a millisecond delay. Do you think that the additional delay (I’m guessing 5 ms total) would be enough to start messing with timing? Also, that Behringer is a stereo system that lets you pan each input in the stereo field. I’ve found that to be useful in live sound to help separate the individual instruments and voices. For me, this works best when they’re panned *mildly to moderately* left or right, with my own instrument and/or voice being dead center. When everything is dead center, it tends to be more difficult to distinguish what’s going on. Of course, I’ve also found that it’s important to be selective in what you put in your monitor mix in the first place. It’s not always wise to have *every* instrument and vocalist in there. Keeping the mix to only the inputs that you need can help it not become sonic diarrhea. Then again, I am a shitty bass player, so take this all with a grain of salt.

Thing that worries me about all wireless gear is: These things, even the cheap ones, work perfectly fine at home and so... And all video reviews show that. No drop outs, range is fine and so on. But once you bring them out on stage, it's a whole different ball game. KZbin videos will not tell you at all how reliable these things are on stage. For example, the Line 6 G10 works perfectly fine at home, or in the studio. I love it. But it did drop out at a few shows I've played at. And tottaly crapped itself when I used it once in an Arena stage.

I play in a Folk Metal band and can tell you from experience that, if possible, you really want stereo monitoring. Mono InEar Monitoring didn't do anything more for me than a shitty floor monitor mix, and that is basically why I switched to InEars anyway. With InEars you loose so much space where the different frequencies can work on you that by smashing them all on one channel you will not even be able to hear 4 different instruments clearly. If you only want to hear the drums, maybe mono is the thing for you. But listening to different melody or rhythm instruments in the same frequency range will end up an undiscernible mess

The Mono thing kind of sucks, but i still plan to pick this up anyway. my band has been dying to go in ear, as we arent famous, and have had trouble getting any sound guy to spend more than 3 minutes on our monitor mix. i plan to just drastically eq the guitars differently so we can tell who is who. Doing a closed system like Fluffs set up though so it should be pretty easy to set and forget with the exception of charging the wireless stuff.

If you're a vocalist and you have backing vocals going you definitely want a stereo mix. It's difficult to explain, but it's super disorienting if you hit unison and suddenly the voices all fold into this one blob of noise and your own voice disappears.

Not a word about how it sounds, making me assume it's not good. I've heard the $500 entry-level Shure product and it's a bit fuzzy and has a slight chorus sound to it. Both add up to not usable for music. Since this vid is aimed at musicians/singers, a word (or 3) about the SOUND seems essential. Other comments here about needing dual-band, stereo is better, etc. are correct but ignore that this company brought out a $250 wireless IEM system. You don't get cruise control/AC/power windows at the rock bottom price point.

i lead worship at a church. I bought the Xvive because it looked like a great solution for my in ears. It says the battery last 5 hours. We do an 1 1/2 hour rehearsal followed by a 1 hour service. 3 of the 5 times i've used them the battery died before the last song. Imagine the felling of being in front of the whole congregation for the last song and you have no in ears. No click no band nothing. i would not recommend them. Also i have tried to reach customer service and got no response.

There are going to be some real world issues with these units, namely the fact it uses 2.4 GHz, the most cluttered frequency band on the planet. With only 6 frequencies to choose from there is a high chance that in a place with alot Wifi networks that you will be unable to find a free chanel to use this unit. The other thing is unless wireless guitars/microphones you can't just chance a cable if you have wireless issues at a show, you have to chance the audio system to accommodate the change. These look like an amazing product for a killer price, one just has to realise that IEMs are nowhere near as simple as wireless guitars or microphones is setup or operation.

once they come in stock iam going to rent one from Long and mcquade, Xvive was going to send me one for review iam one of their endorsed artists but then when it came to the cruch they are like sorry we cant send it i was like why ask me then , needless to say iam not impressed with them right now, that being said, i have had a few of the guitar wireless systems and there are ok and their pedals are great but the boss wireless beat them out ,, just and FYI glen i rented one of their wireless mic systems and you will get an on and off gltch with some guitar wireless systems that are also on the same 2.4 ghz band and swtichng channels does not cure it it seems they are a bit to close. so if you want to use the xvive with out problems might need to consider UHF stuff for your guitar when using thier otehr systems that are wireless.. i do alot of testing with gear all the time so iam hopeing that this in ear system is a better setup for the channels frequencys then there other stuff was ,, i currently run the galaxy audio as-900T system for my in ear and its UHF so no problems with range or channel interfearence with any of my other gear thats wireless so far so good ,. and i can run it mono or stereo which is cool .. and it cost me less then what xvive is asking how ever it does eat AA batteries in the reciever alot but thats the price of going cheaper.. according to the long and mcquade website unless things change this system from xvive will be selling for 299.00 once they have stock of them in febuary 2020..not a bad price tho ..

Not a professional system by any stretch of the imagination. For budget Options the Sennheiser G3 is going to perform better & is not in the 2.4ghz band. While it might be fine in an isolated environment, but get into a dense RF environment, not gonna be great. If your budget allows, I’d recommend going Lectrosonics.

6 different channels on the 2.4ghz band? That's just asinine. Mono mix only and only a fixed battery? This thing is a toy. This thing is the Line6 of wireless in ear systems.

@dylanknollenberg4615
@dylanknollenberg4615 3 жыл бұрын
@@CedricSatterfield How about not wasting $229 on hot garbage and instead just using a cheap headphone cable to the mixer or interface and have an actual solid stereo in-ear mix. Or you can get a reliable headphone amplifier for less than half the price of this pos. Mono makes you feel isolated, it makes a lot of people uncomfortable and pull one ear out. You also run out of headroom really easily on a mono mix since there's no stereo field. I perform on stage with a extremely nice Shure PSM300 system, it's entry level, certainly isn't cheap, but it's been rock solid and I believe I got a quality product for the good chunk of change I've invested in it.
