How this is not the best video ever...Miss Berberian has been an amazing artist
@joeyrider3 жыл бұрын
Berberian was the epitome of avant-garde music Berio, Cage and Maderna composed pieces expressively for her. She was a composer herself, on top she was also one of the greatest interpreter of baroque music. Her interpretation of L’incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi is a stronghold of modern baroque music. The Beatles rendition came in that spirit. Love for genuine contemporary pop music, her love for baroque music, love for avant-garde performance and sheer fun. The Beatles were great because artist as different as Sinatra, Ray Charles, Cathy Barberian, Nina Simone, Jeff Beck and Siouxsie Sioux made their own music through their compositions.

@hugothebear11 жыл бұрын
Do some people really not realise this is parody ?
@MickieLynn19007 жыл бұрын
gregory gyllenship actually it's not a parody, this singer thought that The Beatles were like the pinnacle of great music at the time and she wanted to perform their music but she didn't think that she could perform the songs exactly like The Beatles could. So then she went to a composer and asked him to arrange several Beatles songs in different, more classical styles and this is what he came up with. Berberian is being completely serious in her performance of this arrangement of the piece.
@webrarian6 жыл бұрын
Listen to what she says: "As it might be sung by a Handel oratorio singer in the Provinces." She is sending up (parodying) classical English performance styles outside London in the 1960s. She's not parodying the music - the composer has done that already. She is parodying the performance style.
