I think this is a good direction, to keep motorcyclists around. Not gonna lie, it's a frustrating effort the first time I learn manual transmission. After 10.000km it's become second Nature and I love it I'm glad that many motorcycle companies are trying to bridge the experience holistically.

@@7mpowerd Yeah, THAT bike, used a conventional gearbox, with electric actuators to select gears and operate the clutch. Honda's DCT, (as all DCTs) is a whole, DIFFERENT STORY. It's another type of gearbox all together. It does have some disadvantages, mainly added cost, and weight (around 10 kgs), but the advantages are huge. Whether you like it, or not, is a personal preference. Yamahas Y-AMT is more like Honda's "e-clutch" than it is a DCT. It looks (from what I've read) that it's still a typical manual box, with electric actuators. These systems, are a lot cheaper to build, and offer similar advantages, but USUALLY, they are nowhere near as fast as an actual DCT. That being said, it has to be tested for actual results and opinions to be formed. PS. Either way, for spirited driving, the 6-speed "1N23456" sequential with a proper quick-shift setup, is king for me. For everyday use, I wouldn't mind the bike doing the work for me though.

Standard gearboxes will never go away for the simple reasons of price to produce and over a century of rider generations conditioned to them. DCT, E-Clutches and other automated transmissions will fill gaps in the bike market (Elder riders, returning riders, beginners, commuting centric, curious drivers, disabled, etc.) Performance of faster shifting aside Team Blue knows this. Very interested to see which models this will be used on as well as if it makes it to the States. 🇺🇸 🏍

old people, commuters and beginners dont buy mt09 in first place... disabled people dont ride bikes. People who buy mt09 are the adrenaline rushing maniacs who doesnt need tech like that. Maybe for mt03 and other low tier bike riders would take advantage, but not the mt09 community.

Now one bike with this YAMT system can replace those two bikes. And it's not like AT is forced, you can always switch to MT when you want some adrenaline. Isn't it perfect?

@RokRovan
@RokRovan 7 ай бұрын
No. The Honda e-clutch only operates the clutch. The rider still needs to manually shift with the gear lever. Yamaha's solution looks like it's fully automatic with a "see-saw" switch on the bars for optional manual shifting.
@motorcycle-man
@motorcycle-man 7 ай бұрын
@@RokRovan Incorrect. Using the clutch and gear lever is optional with Honda's E-Clutch system. So if you want to use it as a conventional motorcycle, you can. If you don't, you don't have to. Honda's system does not have the see-saw switch on the bars though.

We've minimized clutch operation with technologies like A&S and Quickshifter (QS) to let riders focus on enjoying the ride. @@Waldo1122, nope. When you are accelerating forward the G-forces is pulling your body backward - so it's easier for you to pull the gearshift lever back rather than pushing it forward at that moment. When you are braking the G-forces is pushing your body forward - so it's easier for you to push the gearshift lever forward rather than pulling it back at that moment. This is exactly why racecar sequential gearboxes works this way: you pull the lever back to raise the gear, and push the lever forward to lower the gear. Same principle is adopted over here on Y-AMT, and on Honda DCT as well. Because this is the right way how it should be.
