Actually I like the CG in anime. Because sometimes the 2D environment and movement of characters/objects is limited but with CG, the 3D environment and movement makes it better such as Ufotable made anime (Fate/Stay Night, Tales of Zestiria) and Production I.G made anime.(Haikyuu, Guilty Crown). I agree with ppl's comments here, the artwork in this is sublime but the animation quality is average at best. Probably the only thing worth watching...the rain and artwork. If they just add in better animation, chuck in a few powerups and magic :P (haha) then it would be better. :P

this is not 'ai' love, this is 'koi' love, the lonely feeling felt when someone is gone, or distance away. I believe this story is not telling about two people who want to love, they are strangers who happen to meet at the junction of their life. Their 'love' happen even though barrier of ages, profession and personality are between them. This is about reality of life, and life can't be always as we wanted. Ending are not satisfied? Their story never end there, it will end when they are dead, heck, when we are dead too. It depends on how you view a story, a people, then you can see a broader and deeper meaning. Makoto Shinkai are very poetic in his story, when i see his story in my depressed moment, then i know his real motive are to make people realize the beauty of life around you and make hope for future.

animes can't have this kind of quality because it takes WAY too long. There are some pretty dam good looking animes like fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, but overall I don't see any new animes taking on this style any day soon.

If you are referring to the character animation, I dont think its rotoscope. The characters look like they are still drawn from scratch rather than traced out. Im not entirely certain, but Aku no Hana might be an example of rotoscope animation. On the other hand, the background art was somewhat traced from the photos he took of the different areas in Japan, but i still think rotoscope refers to the animation itself rather than still images

Rotoscoping is when you record live footage and then trace over it. Animation traced over real footage. This is simply really good animation.

eventhough there's some people who's dissapointed and say that it isn't that good. But for me, this film gave me such a heartwarming feeling. A simple yet believable story, wrapped up in an amazing visualization and a wonderful+amazingly fitted piano pieces by Kashiwa Daisuke(head over heels in love with them).. I think that the feeling of emptiness an audience feel after the movie is something important in a Shinkai movie. To be left bear and exposed; vulnerability as a sort of filler after the movie ends. The movie was great and, like 5cm/sec, something that will occupy a special place in one's heart. I will rate it 8/10 because the emptiness should be made apparent.
