The reason that number was so low was 1999 was the lockout shortened season. I mean it’s insane how little 40 point games there were but still there was a reason behind it.

Allen Iverson led the league in scoring that year with 26.8 PPG That would rank 16th this season.

@@Terror832 yeah from what I remember about that season was it was 50 games starting like after the new year or right before, and the entire season was compressed. I’m assuming there were wayyyy more back to backs probably a lot more exhausted players, and injuries which could’ve lessened the overall scoring of that year which would be my estimation.

I don’t understand how the scoring boom isn’t being attributed to Hardens success as a volume scorer. Offenses were not running that offense until the Rockets did. Now almost every team is running a variation of that offense.
@ASG_lenn
@ASG_lenn Жыл бұрын
I give the rockets credit for being able to run an offense that let harden shine. It was almost a perfect offense but they didnt have any real reliable centers. They had harden doing the fucking jump ball. There offense isn't made for multiple super stars. It's made for 1 amazing scorer and a bunch of role guys but they couldn't get the right role guys
@BayAreaHoops415
@BayAreaHoops415 Жыл бұрын
Imo, I think it's just how fast pace the offense is, how many 3s are taken and most importantly the league just has more players capable of scoring 40. You got random role players getting 40 on elite efficiency all the time now and when you watch the highlights of these games, it's not like the defense is bad, these guys are just making ridiculous shots
@Anthonydu01630
@Anthonydu01630 Жыл бұрын
Harden is just the extreme exemple of an heliocentric player with an extremely high usage rate and who controlled almost every possession in the game in his prime, but imo it started with Magic and Bird, then MJ took it to another level but it was mostly with his scoring even tough he was an underated playmaker, and then guys like Iverson or Gilbert Arenas but they weren’t successful, and then you have Lebron who imo has the perfect balance between scoring and playmaking, and who can do pretty much everything on offense because of his size and athleticism, so Lebron really was the player who started this revolution of heliocentric offense, position less basketball and score first point guard type of player, after Lebron you had guys like D.Rose, Westbrook, Harden, Dame, Giannis, Jokic, Doncic, Ja, Trae Young or even KD, Curry, Sabonis, Mitchell, Lamelo, Garland, Zion or Sengun to a lesser degree… All these players can control an offense by themselves, they bring the ball up, they control trafic and they make the decision in almost every possession, they can score like a scorer and facilitate like a pure pass first point guard, and their size don’t matter anymore if youcan shoot you shoot, if you can pass you pass, Lebron is 6’9 260+, and a lot of these players are big, tall and athletic like him, that’s position less basketball and before Lebron these type of players were rare, now almost every team has a guy like that so Lebron is one of the biggest reason for this revolution/evolution.

Yea part has to do with the rules being alil more catered towards offense making defense alil harder, also the amount off players we have in the league that are elite is very high right now. I love how well the league has progressed, every year players take what they can from players before and build on it. Which is why I appreciate all decades the same, it’s what got us to where we are.

Yep I also have the theory that everyone's gonna be big in the future league. Also small guards will not only need to shoot like curry but also defend like GP2 to have a chance I do think it's a cycle tho. Game will go big players who can handle and shoot --) close shot being more effient --) big man led league --) role players being more advantageous --) smaller players leading position less basketball again Kinda backed up by history when you look at the history of the league.

I'ma tell u why niccas avg 30 pts a game... No one wants to play defense because no one wants to get embarrassed with a cross up or dunk with social media or get called for a shooting foul giving away and 1s. So when u have a handful of ppl playing def is when you start having point guards flying from the foul cuz they aren't afraid to catch an elbow or get dropped. Lillard Morant and Westbrook thrive because no one wants to look bad or take the call and these days get ejected and fined for playing def. These companies think all we wanna see is offense

They will all be able to handle, play make, shoot the 3/mid range, dunk, finish through contact, rebound and block shots run the fast break or slow it down and play half court offense.
