This the 2024 Ranma? Not sure as I did not see the picture clear enough to be sure. Pretty sure it is... Ryoga is my fave character and I hope we see him in episode 3 but I forget the order of things from my watch through of the old version. You'll get it if they introduce him the same way.

@@rushreal They added fillers and that changed a lot of Akane's personallity for example. There's some anime only characters too that aren't much big of a deal but robbed some manga's characters spotlight (sasuke the ninja doesn't exist in the manga and some of his appeareance in the anime are actually gosunkugi's). There's also some romantic aspects in the manga that the anime omitted (ranma's thoughts and nervousness about akane in the romeo and juliet episode or his confession in the shinnosuke arc). There's a lo of ranma and akane romantic development left out in the anime. There's also one of the main characters that has a girlfriend later on in the manga but the anime didn't animated that far.

This is based on a manga from one of the greats, rumiko Takahashi. Her best known series in the US is Inuyasha, but she’s been making big hit series in Japan since the late 70s. Starting in 1978 I don’t think she’s gone more than 1 year without at least working on one continuously published manga, and for seven years she was doing two (though one of them was a monthly series). Her current series, Mao, doesn’t have an anime yet, but that’s really the only one: Urusei Yatsura: 240 episodes (including 2022 remake) Maison Ikkoku: 96 episodes Ranma 1/2: 161 episodes (plus however many the remake ends up with) Inuyasha: 193 episodes (including Inuyasha Final Act) Rin-ne: 75 episodes Not even counting the OVAs and Movies based on her work, or the Inuyasha sequel Yasahime. Woman is a _legend_. Most manga artists would be lucky to have *one* such series.

They wouldn't mind being a tiger...until someone calls Animal Welfare on you (although granted, that didn't happen with Ranma's Panda-Dad). But with more episodes, they'll understand why Ranma thinks it's a curse (or big incovenience). He later discovers ways on how to use his curse to his advantage (he is the Musabetsu-Kakutou Ryuu - which was translated as Anything-Goes Martial Arts im the 90s - heir afterall).

Ranma is not really a raunchy show. There are some nude scenes like in this episode, but its a romantic comedy and an almost satirical martial arts show at heart

When you guys said you didn't know anything about this, I was in shock. The original was awesome and it was written by the first lady of Manga - Rumiko Takashi. I don't know how many people I got into watching Anime from the original as I wore the VHS tapes out.

And the funny thing is that somehow, despite being from that generation, the animes don't feel slow paced at all! So you can watch both versions and enjoy them to the fullest with only the tech quality being the only difference. (But there's something so charming about old animations/drawings)

This episode (re-)adapts the first two chapters of the manga. The first chapter ended with Ranma’s second “Sorry 'bout this” after getting out of the bath, and now I have to wonder what Shonen Sunday readers back in 1987 thought was going on with the panda, the old dude appearing out of nowhere, and Ranma turning from a girl into a boy while in the bath. I guess there’s enough information there that with a week to think about it, people could’ve put together that the two were both normally dudes and it was the bath itself that turned both of them back to normal. 30 years ago, this series was THE biggest thing in anime and manga fandom in the States, bar none. It’s basically the reason Viz Media even still exists - it’s almost as important to their history as Dragon Ball Z is to Funimation. In the '90s, it got more fanfic than any two other anime combined, and a lot of those fanfic writers ONLY knew it from other fanfic. I got into fandom in 2006-2007, and I think this is the first time I’ve EVER encountered someone going into Ranma without knowing the premise. Ranma 1/2 is an absolute legend of fandom.

Its funny you said Kasumi has "mama vibes". Her voice actress, Kikuko Inoue, is actually THE very model of the "Oneesan" big sister / and now young mother trope in Japan. Many of these characters were based off the previous series Urusei Yatsura that mangaka Rumiko Takahashi did. If you watched the reboot, you saw the parallels immediately especially from Ryounnuske Fujnami and her dad in Urusei Yatsura to Ranma and his dad in this series. I can go on and on, but this is what got people in the western world watching her series was Ranma 1/2.

im glad you guys brought up the dont worn people about openings thing people are so used to Shonen spoiling the whole show that they think all openings do that when like, its only a spoiler if you know, most people that watch the oshi no ko opening didnt catch onto who Crow girl was until she showed up, before that most anime onlys thought she was either another sibling or even Ryosuke reincarnated which is wild but it leads to let people watch a show as its intended don't try and tell him otherwise now they know they have to look for stuff to be careful of, its like trigger warnings, most studies show if you prepare someone to be trigger they're more likely to actually be triggered

There were 7 seasons of the original. A first class (spoiler) with good fights. The only weak point is that some of the later episodes were a bit repetitious of earlier ones. This version, at least the first 2 episodes, is pretty much a shot-for-shot remake only with modern animation and 16:9 instead of 4:3. As a big fan of the original, I didn't expect to like the new one this much but it had turned out *very well.*

While im glad they reunited most of the Japanese voice actors.....sad they didn't for the English voice cast.....but also the nudity is downgraded here from the 90s! They actually censor the nipples.

Just go ahead and keep the hot water kettle at the ready. It's a necessity for this series. The question of how much water the transformation requires is really unanswered (as it's one of those issues Rumiko Takahashi doesn't concern herself with), because it's usually just however much is funny or fitting for the situation, which can be inconsistent. A little rule of thumb, though, seems to be that it takes more than just any single small part of the body getting wet. How much more exactly? Who knows?

This series is not really raunchy. There is nudity, but the fact that they redid it in ken doll style should tell you that the nudity is more or less not the main focus of the story. The genre is magical martial arts mayhem.
