Shapeshifter episode pretty much a game of mafia/werewolf if heard or played it. For ppl that don’t know: usually a board game and the goal is to figure out who is the fake, aka this is where the video game among us is based on. In physical for say one night werewolf (a modern version) with a digital app the announcer tells ppl to check their roles without revealing, close their eyes, then announcer calls our person role name to open their eyes and check for others, mess with role cards and such. In end players got 5-10 mins (this can be changed) to determine who is the werewolf lord and vote to eliminate them. Lesser werewolves must protect the lord so figure out a way to frame ppl without revealing their role and whose the lord.

Btw, the author made a chart for which member made each doppelgänger and why. For example, the super cutesy Chilchuck came from Senshi because he still sees him as a child and the buff Laios came from Marcille because before they met, she’d heard that he looked just like Falin, but when she saw him, she thought he looked way too masculine

I love that when Laios is the judge to weed out the imposters, none of the party members have any faith in him even though He does locate the imposters by picking up on their minor personality traits. The imposters from his memory are pretty accurate with the only defects being minor visual discrepancies. Case in point, his Marcille stays the longest. The Laioses from their memories are incredibly warped.

The most important thing is that he picked up their minor personality traits that related to the thing he liked most: Monsters Just like how an autistic person could remember the most specific connection between their hiperfixation and their friends, Laios remembered not their friends, but how they interacted with his obsession

Fun fact: In supplementary materials, we find out how each of the party member’s memories affected the doppelgangers. Laios Marcile: The imposter that stays the longest. His memory of her hair is vague but he vividly remembers her determined expression when resurrecting Falin. Chilchuck: Pretty accurate, although he didn’t realize he wasn't wearing a muffler scarf Senshi: Also accurate, other than a blemish in the helmet. Marcille Laios: The giant Laios She heard that he looked just like Falin, but I guess he was too masculine for her, and the first impression stuck. Chilchuck: The imposter that stays the longest. He is infantilized because she can’t comprehend that he’s an adult Senshi: Squashy Senshi with a fake pot. His stature and height are slightly exaggerated because those traits left the biggest impression on her. Chilchuck Laios: His weirdness is VERY exaggerated because Chilchuck is weirded out by Laios. Shocker. Marcille: She’s the one with the scribbly spellbook. Not much to say other than the hair is sorta accurate because he likes blond hair but doesn’t remember the specific hairstyle Senshi: Is more handsome because the masculinity of dwarves is a trait idolized by a lot of Halfoots. Senshi: Laios: Twink Laios because tall men are viewed as more feminine in comparison to dwarves. Marcille: Botox Marcille because he had been told at a young age that elves were bad so he has subconscious racism against them. Chilchuck: Babyface Chilchuck with the fake lock picks.He’s infantilized by Senshi similar to Marcille but worse. He legitimately thinks Chilchuck is only a child.

Actually handsome Senshi was Chilchuck's. Dwarven men are seen as a kind of ideal beauty standard for half-foots in the setting. You're right about Marcille though. Aparently the "tell" according to the author is that Laios's Marcille's hair was down, because her doing the black magic ritual made a big impression on him and her hair was all over the place.

One of the cool details is that the shapeshifters are based off how the gang sees each other and it’s the most obvious with Laios’. The tall one with the small head is how Senshi sees him, the head being small is due to his perspective and likely not seeing his head cuz Laios’ breastplate would be in the way from Senshi’s height, the dumb one is how Chillchuck sees Laios, and the last one is Marcielle’s, due to the fact that it looks and acts similar to Falin, which is what Marcielle thinks of when she sees Laios
