I drove the boat for 8 years after PDS sold her. We took her back to Norway to Fredrikstad and what a warm welcome we received Through out our 2 summers in Norway we meet old crew and people the ship had saved in its short career as a rescue ship. The duel controls you talk about on the bridge are not duel controls Each set has 1 throttle and 1 gear shift leaver, and they were always polished so you could see your face in them. Two transatlantic voyages plus 1000's of miles in-between 13 foot draft is an issue No bow thruster and a barn door size rudder make her fun to drive all that said I never felt safer on a boat even when knocked over nearly 40 degrees in an Atlantic storm of the Azores (she has a 98 degree recovery angle)

R/S 77 "Fredrikstad" is a former lifeboat that was built for the Rescue Company in 1968 at Smedvik Mek. Verksted AS in Tjørevåg. Until 1988, "Fredrikstad" was in service as a lifeboat and rescued 11 people from "certain death", 11 vessels from total sinking, and provided assistance to a total of 623 vessels.

I've seen a couple of these conversions, beautiful ships, but it's going to be hard to find many parking spaces for an almost 12 ft draft. There was 1 for sale in Maine a few years ago, was on the market for a very long time before it sold or the owner gave up. Just not a lot of harbors or marinas to handle that draft unless you want pay super yacht type fee's. That's a pretty tight niche vessel. Never the less it is a very nice vessel and I would feel secure in it!

This vessel is a delight to see. Very rugged, & most definitely a great sea boat. Trawler hull high bow rise & lots of freeboard. A bit too much reflection on interior . but beautiful craftmanship . I am sure reasonable cost to operate . She is beautiful. Tks for the vid.

We had 4 crew 1 Double bed small hanging locker and 4 draws for cloths The was a door into the engine room and a mother into a small space with a door into the head and one into the other crew cabin with 2 bunkbeds also there was a vertical ladder up to the aft deck NO port holes Small and cosy The original spaces where for dry food storage etc

I'm sorry to say (as a retired electrical engineer) that current technology often exists just for the sake of its self. The problem is, it's difficult to use and when it breaks no one (NO ONE) can fix it. This is however a stunning boat.

I tend to agree with you. Amongst the old time global cruisers, there is a definite preference for rugged and dependent systems (ie a depth sounder, radar etc that doesn't rely on being tied into an integrated, multi purpose system just to function). As you say, too much emphasis on features and too little emphasis on reliability.

This motor explorer yachts interior is just lovely, why would you want to change anything. Maybe install modern galley kitchen appliances, washer dryer, dishwasher, separate fridge and separate freezer, electric hob and a combined microwave, grill, air fryer and convection oven. As well as work top hot water drink machine and ice cube maker, plus a pressure cooker too.p, women like a well equipped kitchen with all the labour saving appliances too. Though one of the single cabin, set up as a sewing and craft cabin, but keeping a single sea bed with draws underneath too. Maybe fitting of Solar Panels and a pair of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines, plus pair of hull mounted Hydro Turbines, all to generate electric energy to recharge new rechargeable battery energy pack too. With a new electric motor added to the yacht mapping propellers shaft, giving capability of electric low speed propulsion too. Maybe having a yacht tender with a bow ramp doorway for wheelchair access, plus electric outboard motor with interchangeable portable rechargeable battery energy packs too. Motor yachts even older ones, should be more and more environmental friendly too.

Truly a beautiful exploration vessel and a boat I would much prefer over any Superyacht of similar size. This boat's biggest downfall to me would be it's Draft. Way to many reefs and shallow waterways between islands where I live. Those V8 Detroits would like a drink at w.o.t.

Thank you for showing off this great Vessel. YOU my friend keep it getting better at showing great long Range vessels. The two huge hooks with large wheel brakes are real working vessel type The wheel house with the double prop control is a work of ART. I Love Detroit Diesel, have two myself, a (353) and (8-V-71) plug them both in, keeping the Engine warm. They start A+. I would buy her if I had the money just because she is powered by Detroit. I know them inside and out.
