What do you get if you shrink a 28m superyacht into 10.5m sportscrusier? The answer is the Dominator Midi Ilumen 35M.
In this in-depth walkthrough review and sea trial of the Dominator Midi Ilumen 35M, Jack Haines puts the boat through its paces in the stunning surroundings of the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro.
The boat is the result of a request from an existing Ilumen 28M owner for a smaller version to act as a chase boat. Dominator has met the brief admirably and the little 35M faithfully mimics the bigger yacht with its swooping superstructure and liberal use of glass.
Though the layout of the boat, which comprises a seating focussed cockpit and cabin with a convertible vee berth and separate bathroom, can’t be changed there is plenty of scope to customise the colours and materials to make the boat your own.
You can have the boat with twin 300hp diesel engines or twin 430hp petrol V8s (both on sterndrives) and it will top out at 37 and 45 knots respectively. The diesel boat, tested here, has a range of approximately 350nm at 25 knots.
It’s brave, it’s different and it’s a head-turner.

Just to add some context to the price, as mentioned in the video. This, for now, is a one off and the first built, which inevitably comes with a higher cost as it's not into a production run. It also has some expensive equipment fitted as standard that would likely be optional on other other boats, such as the Seakeeper stabiliser, air-conditioning, a generator, FLIR night vision camera, the sterndrive joystick, bow thruster and the Humphree interceptor trim system - Jack

It feels more like a prototype that needs a lot of revisions. So many compromises and the gadgets can’t make-up for its flaws. “Stubby” was used often and I’m quite sure that’s not complimentary. Love the channel and your videos so thanks for sharing.

This has to be the most overpriced 35f boat in the market. Also, it looks like you really wanted a super yacht and could not afford it. Where to start: Bow completely useless, not even for anchoring, wind and spray protection non existent for the helm and for the cockpit, interior spaces smaller than many other boats in the category, does not have the low ceiling rear cabin that is standard. The bbq on the seat is just a joke, even if they raise it. For this kind of money, you can get 10 feet more of Pardo, Fjord, Windy, or go on to much larger boats from cheaper brands. Would love to meet the first owner and understand why… why??

For a fun time I'd take a Brabus Axopar instead and spend the remaining cash on hookers and illegal substances
