Golden yachts from Greece are building some amazing super yachts .. O'ptasia and O'pare are two amazing examples of what this shipyard is capable of producing.. Big fan of this shipyard .. In the smaller range Bering would get a honorable mention from me as well..

I am amazed by the amount of high quality videos you are releasing now on a daily basis! As a Ferretti Group shareholder (yes they did an IPO recently) I agree that the Dutch are great and I secretly envy a bit what for example Royal Huisman, Vitters, Oceanco or Wajer are doing... Actually all the northern shipyards do great work and you forgot about Finland (Swan Yachts and Baltic Yachts) in this video! Another country you forgot is the UK with Pendennis, Spirit Yachts and Oyster. What I noticed about northern shipyards in general: Even the new players tend to start at a very high quality level. I mean just think about Y Yachts in Germany. With regards to Turkey I also want to note that indeed they are evolving quickly (you mentioned quite a few good builders there) and Perini Navi (Italian) for example now is building some of their yachts in Tuzla near Istanbul...

I wonder why Korea and Japan aren't major players in that industry. They certainly have the shipbuilding expertise, and their traditions of craftsmanship are second to none.

That's a valid observation. The biggest "park" for superyachts is still the Med though, so I think it would be challenging for a yard in Japan or Korea to become a major player. Not impossible though.

Korea is the biggest cargo shipbuilders in the world.. but when it comes to luxury they don't seem to care. I think they have 1 brand but it's basically a KIA in the 90's.

A number of countries in the Asia/South East Asia region have really fantastic locations to visit with a yacht. However the security situations in several locations leave authorities advising vessels not to travel in isolation but to travel together with other yachts. This has been improving but is still a work in progress.

That Oceanco project is very intriguing since it's sort of a monstorus "refit" adding 10 meters to an already existing yacht. Perhaps calling it a refit doesn't do this justice because looking at H3 before and after looks like a completly new yacht!

Quality can be defined as a degree of excellence achieved by adherence to specifications. The tolerances set drive costs. It is more costly to achieve results within a 1% variation than within a 5% variation. Variability is inherent in any mechanical function but not all variability is noticeable to the human eye so people make legitimate choices. Automation and computer controls have reduced variability versus traditional craft skills so absolute levels of quality have improved over time. When we compare products from different countries I see different absolute specifications as firms trade off costs against acceptable variability. I perceive that some acceptance of variability is cultural - Is it good enough? This is often driven by the competition’s offering. Northern European shipyards often set tougher specifications. Other differences are driven by the emphasis on style versus reliability. Generally Italian designers seem to be more cutting edge while Northern Europe tends to be more classic. I attribute the rise of Turkish shipyards to the use of International Designers to provide great style regardless of country of manufacture; to the use of newer, computer controlled equipment to limit inherent variability versus older equipment; and to the use of mechanically more reliable international technical equipment like engines and generators, which are often the same across nations. As average quality specs converge and as style and reliability become more global, the lower Turkish labor costs mean a Turkish shipyard offers more value than Northern European shipyards for broadly similar products.

I have been so impressed by the Tatiana that when you mentioned her here and flashed her silhouette on screen, I literally got tears in my eyes. She is the most gorgeous yacht I have ever seen. Other yachts have greatly impressed me, like Blue Moon for her interior and several elements in her build. Bering would likely be whom I would 'buy' a yacht from. But for sheer gobsmacking wow factor, Tatiana has them beat.

Very interesting video David. I think the best people to ask this question to, are the individuals that spend the most time onboard these vessels. (Captains, Engineers & Crew). Without question they will all say without hesitation that the Dutch & Germans build the best yachts in terms of planning, tech spec, GA, materials used, quality of workmanship, attitude, culture, warranty, eye for detail, listening to the client, practicality, future proofing, ease of maintenance, quality of finish and communication between the yard, contractors, suppliers, owners rep & crew and the finish of the final product. But saying all this, the price per GT for the Germans & Dutch is more expensive than the equivalent to the Italians & Turkish. It’s all a questions of budget and slot availability with the yards and want each individual client wants.

@patrickabas1112

Of course we do, would be my first reaction, but I think it depends on the type, size and style of yacht. I think every builder has its own style. Lursen for example has these huge bow areas (what in my eyes) is a waste of space and by doing this they generate length but not usage. The Italians are great a 'mass' produced high quality and refined yachts. The new 'world' is Turkye with excellent examples of great yachts, Bering being one of them. To close of we say: As a final touch God created the Dutch 🙂

at the same point you always have to keep an eye on neglectance in turkey. If you do not check or do not look closely you will find issues afterwards. And the business model is stalling too, cheap turkish labor force is over, skilled labor force has become expensive and even Mercedes struggled for decades with the quality from their turkish factories. Caused a lot of headache for customers that got busses or trucks from there. And same for the whole mess of corruption and regulations, that are ignored even though all the buildings should be safe in case of an earthquake. But every tiny earthquake causes such catastrophes that they call for help and we still bring that help free of charge even though they should not deserve it compared to the third world countries. If there is a rule in place they find a way around and that will cause bigger damage than following the rules. Therefore the move of industrial production to turkey has stopped, the big players are avoiding turkey instead regarding investment into production facilities.
