The FT-7900 is the best choice for entry level or seasoned operators. Dual band, optional remote head kit, wide band receive, and more. My favorite online dealer is www.gigaparts.com , they have a great price on this radio and great customer service as well. This is part 1 of 2. Please check out part 2 of this video after watching.

Just got my tech and have been considering the FT-7900 for my first radio. Your video was really helpful and will be quite useful should I get it. Thanks for taking the time.

I bought this radio just to have as a back up or spare. I have two Yaesu FT-8800, one in the car and one in the home as my base VHF/UHF radio. I ended up using the 7900 as my APRS radio for when I go on road trips or when I'm mobile for a ARES event. I also share your love for Yaesu. They are a great brand and they make great ham radios.

Eric, I have been looking at this radio and the FT-8800. However, something I have noticed in many reviews on FT-7900 is the lack of specified output power. eham reviews note it and even the ARRL review/test conducted in 2010. Have you done any power output tests on the FT-7900? If so what have the results been? Seems like a solid radio otherwise. I have been subscriber for a while, you put out some great videos. Great review and demo on this radio on your part!

I’m currently using a Yaseu FT 7800R. What a great radio, Eric is there a big difference between the one I have and the Yaesu FT 7900R? It looks like they both have the same features. 73s Rob,wa2fmh.

Hi there! I see that you've had the Wouxun KG-UV950P, later this 7900 by Yaesu. I've had some changes in my shack recently and planning to go back to a standard dual band rig. I've had that Wouxun before and I liked it. I've also had FT-8800 so I know how Yaesu works. Now I'm thinking to go back either to Wouxun or getting this 7900. I know more or less the +/- of both radios, but can't decide. Whether the Wouxun with 2 VFOs, slower scan speed, step vol/sql knobs, bigger and heavier construction, or Yeasu with 1 VFO, smaller radio, and simply for Yaesu :) Any thoughts after having both radios? I own an 8800 and saw in your video that the 1-5 on the side of the display. If you or noone figured that out, it is not for quick frequency but for different users or if you travel another way to configure the radio. What I mean is the fact that the radio can be configured up to 5 different ways and retain all in that configuration. I have up to 6 different here but had to add my 2 cents for now for the info. 73s, ad0am

@@fredshead3956 Yaesu try to make it a bit easier to wide band their radios. The FT-4 is easy, just push a few buttons then put a code in. I did the FTM-3200 & FT-70D as well, but the bits to remove are tiny, and need a watchmaker's eyeglass to see them. In most cases it's just a slight warming of the diode or resister, and you can just push, or pinge them out of the way. You do it without any effort at all. Go for it!! M.

It's not compatible with FRS and pretty sure not with GMRS either. Read the FFC rules regarding those services. The lowest price I've seen (not on sale) is $269.95. Don't know where you found it for under $200.00.

I like the radio but you didn't get into what channels you can get with this radio. Like business Public Safety etc. I want to know what I can do with this radio as a beginner especially doing traveling. I want to be able to contact public safety encase I need help late at night on the road when everything is closed :)
@UpnorthHere
@UpnorthHere 6 жыл бұрын
It's a "ham radio", meaning it cannot be used on any other bands, except in an emergency (i.e., where no other means of communication are possible and a life is in danger). Even with a Ham license, you can't talk on business, public safety, GMRS, FRS, MURS or maritime bands, other than for an emergency.
