I have found many of your videos very useful, thank you for uploading them (and please continue to make them, you seem to have gone AWOL!) A note on the touchscreen - your mobile phone screen has greater sensitivity because it's not designed to work on a hilltop in sideways rain - it is a trade off for sure, but Yaesu are probably doing you a favour with the low resolution of their touchscreen. If you tap the screen a bit harder you may find that it functions as you wish it would. I use a lot of weatherproof touchscreens and they're all pretty much the same. You might also find that using a stylus helps with the sausage fingers problem 😬 All the best!

This is a great radio and so easy to use. Not had to look at the manual. Yes there are many videos on KZbin if you do get stuck. I’ve found that RT Systems is by far the easiest software to program. It’s does cost but will worth the money. I’ve brought this software for all my Yaesu radios. 73

Hi Rev! Just discovered your channel. Will be looking back at all your videos. I’m just finishing the Foundation Course and hope to take exam soon. I’m churchwarden of a Grade-1 listed church building in England. Was thinking the top of the tower a good place to transmit from! Look forward to communicating with you further, hopefully over the air, when I get my licence.

Great to hear. There is an event in September called Churches on the Air... might be worth exploring. Enjoy the revision and I hope you pass the exam. See you on the bands. Ben

Hello Ben great video. Glad you like the HT I also looked at this radio last November but was out of my budget. I already had the uv-5r which everyone has. I opted for the Anytone 878 plus and went down the rabbit hole of DMR. I also have echo link, droidstar and peanut on my phone if I don't have a radio with me. Great review. Motters M7TRS 73's

@@RadioRevG5REV could be a while before I move on to yaesu. I think I can get c4fm on droidstar. It's a good little app you should try it. I now drive up and down the country so I hope to catch up with you on DMR or a repeater. Stay safe 😷 Motters M7TRS 73's

Good review Ben, just got the Anytone D878UV which it's self is a very nice radio and was nice for me to compare the two. For reference all lithium batteries (should) come with much less than half charge as the 40-60% range gives the longest storage life (even more than fully charged!) and certainly more than flat which is murder to batteries.

Interesting review! Nice radio but I'm sure it's double the price it should be. Just getting back into the hobby having been really into it in the 90's. I find all the digital modes a bit confusing, haven't yet found a good video properly explaining it all. I have no idea what APRS is - will look that up too.

Thanks Ben for the insight into the FT3D, I've just ordered one today so looking through a few video's about it and yours was very useful. Interesting about how to programme it without the cable, although I would have to watch it a few times to grasp it. Would be nice to work you from my local high ground just North of Bridlington, might give you a call when I'm out next. Cheers from G6JEF.

Thanks for the video Ben.... especially the programming element. Quite a chunk of money for dig/analog handie. I guess the KSP over cheaper alternatives is the touch screen! Out-of-interest, does it do full crossband duplex such that it might lend itself to satellite operation? Interesting you mention heavy/robust yet the MLS adverts say ‘lightweight design’! Thanks again, Nick M1DDD
@RadioRevG5REV3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it does full duplex...as for lightweight... it's now heavy, but it's heavier than a Baofeng UV5R...

Seeing your recent accomplishments (callsign, and passing full licence) I would suggest that the ft3d is a really cheap present. You have earned a much higher end radio or, dare I say it, another radio next to the yaesu? Well done, and very well deserved!

There is a programming cable look in the packaging- Remove the rubber grommet on the bottom right for louder audio .
@RadioRevG5REV3 жыл бұрын
The USB cable in the box is for firmware updates only, not for programming it. As for removing the grommet, will that also decrease the waterproof nature of the radio?
@HamTechRadioScannerDrones3 жыл бұрын
@@RadioRevG5REV -Agree yes need to use sd card and AMS - I didnt want to remove the gromet but the tinny audio drove me mad .Yes the scu39/40 cable is a rip off otherwise its a great radio and good value the drop in charger is cheap .cheers

On the "cons" you really should add the rubberducky (stock) antenna. The FT3D has the same crap antenna that the FT70D has and believe me, it's absolutely junk ! Isn't because mine's faulty ..alot of ham friends with both FT70 / FT3D noticed the same . When you hit a repeater wich is critical to excite please try a diff antennas. My experience is : full power = the repeare won't listen me also i can't listen the repeater. Different antenna ( cheap one, say a "rat tail" ) i have no problem to excite the same repeater with low power and i listen it full scale . You said : it doesn't get overloaded . Heh, put a rubberduck that actually work . The battery ? Well on the FT-70DE we have the same problems...the battery is a joke really . Please don't get me wrong, i LOVE my FT70 because the superb audio both on fusion/analog . But battery/stock antenna are junks.
@RadioRevG5REV3 жыл бұрын
What antenna would you recommend? I have seen a few alternatives...
@alternative3d873 жыл бұрын
I wish I had never bought this radio. There are so many quarks and issues with it that I can’t believe it was ever released. Unless you have a need for fusion I would avoid at all cost. Seriously for the price they want for it performs like a cheap toy.
