Great batter, great base runner, great pitcher, great guy. His only fault: choosing the Angels earlier.

Not really. The Angels was the only team that was willing to let him do both pitching and DH. Other teams just want him to be DH only. Shohei also picked up some tips from the greatest hitter at that time which was Mike Trout. Shohei is who he is today because he went to the Angels first.

What you wrote seems true however once managers got to see Shohei striking out their top batters continually, they would realize that he can do both at MLB all star level and would give it a try. Pure speculation of course but managers want to win and Shohei has proved to be a game winner.
