@wmfivethree Yeah, but God didn't stop Jepthah from killing his daughter and offering her as a burnt sacrifice, some translations may say otherwise but the original Hebrew version uses the word for "burnt offering"
@Schneeregen_4 жыл бұрын
@wmfivethree Have you read Jepthah, it doesn't have to do with Abraham's story or an interpretation of it, Jepthah promised to sacrifice whatever came out of his home first when he came back from war if god helped him. Then when his daughter came out (honestly what did he think would greet him) he got angry about having to kill her and took 2 months to do it because he really didn't want to, 2 months that God could have stopped this and at the end of those 2 months Jepthah kills his daughter and burns her. My point is that you can't say God is great because he prevented a human sacrifice he commanded, when he did nothing to intervene in a human sacrifice he commanded that took months to be performed.
@Schneeregen_4 жыл бұрын
@wmfivethree They made a deal that if God helped Jepthah then he would sacrifice a life to god, Jepthah didn't sacrifice her spontaneously, if God didn't want a human sacrifice then he wouldn't have helped Jepthah fight or could even have stopped Jepthah from fighting. God knew that Jepthah would kill his daughter because of their deal, could have stopped it but chose not to. Did God "shit" on Abraham for stopping him from killing Issac? Why are you trying to frame a man killing his child or the act of being complacent in this murder in a positive light, with your football analogy? I believe there is one version where he does, where Abraham finds the goat to sacrifice of his own agency. Earlier Abraham begs and confronts God not to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, that a just and good God would not do such a thing, so it fits in more with his character to refuse God later when God vindictively wants to punish said hubris by telling him to kill Isaac. All these stories, even if you were to believe they happened, have been corrupted over thousands of years with different narrators, retellings, cultures, edits, agendas and translations that you’d have to be an irrational brainwashed idiot to believe it’s literally word for word true.

This is an extremely modern idea, post-dating 1945. You should look at Milgram's "Obedience to Authority" for this lesson, not to the Bible. This story is just saying "don't sacrifice your children anymore, God doesn't like it", because that was a common custom in ancient Canaan.

tahi laci Precisely. When I was a child, in the early 80s, I would sit there and wonder why the god of the bible had a split personality, due to the fact, that he wanted a man to kill his son, and then changed his mind. Seemed insane to me.
@vmelkon10 жыл бұрын
AlwaysThinkForYourself Yahooway wanted to make sure that Abraham would do anything for him. At that point, the brain of the christian stops. They don't go further. They think the story is about obedience and they stop there.

Even before I saw this I always thought wouldn't it be a much better story if Abraham raises the knife, starts to cry and says do what you will to me Lord but I will not harm my son. Much better lesson and highly quotable line, I guess I'm better at writing the Bible than they are

The Insane Psychopath Test! LMAO! Brilliant. I have always thought that passage in the OT was a bit of mental illness, but having it put like that is so perfect. It never comes up in conversation, but if that OT story about Abraham murdering his child ever does come up, I know how to describe it succinctly.

What a lovely story... I remember first hearing it in Sunday school, where even with the spin they put on it I, prob about 7 at the time, found it quite disturbing. I was always a bit more weary of my pa and camping trips were never the same, for starters I refused to gather wood for the fire and stayed as far away from the pit as possible, hoping if pa got similar orders from above he'd select an easier target like one of my brothers.

@sehr.geheim2 жыл бұрын
not really, most humans are kind people, in fact, they are even kind to the worst of us, which thus rise into power and wealth because they don't care about the people
@jasondean888882 жыл бұрын
@@sehr.geheim I sincerely disagree. At best, most of humanity gives lip service to empathy and wants to pretend they meet some high standard of morals, but their actions show a general apathy towards anyone they arent closely in contact with. Lack of action is as good as aiding the worst among us. Occasionally a leader rises that has inspired a positive move to offset the worst of our traits, and this leads to a huge outsized move of progress and good deeds, followed by generations of slowly back sliding and taking a good life for granted while ignoring the suffering of others because they are thousands of miles away. Suffering that could be ended with just a mild amount of sacrifice from the most secure portion of our species. Humanity is retched. The only saving grace is the occasional success of the very clever or the very ethical that occasionally rise to a leadership role. We currently have Putin bombing near a nuclear plant that would destroy the lives of millions of Russians as well as everyone else in the area. A "good" and reasonable response to this would be to see millioms of Russians literally march on the Kremlim and physicall remove Putin from office...but no..They cant even be bothered to safe gaurd their own lives. The risk to reward is within "acceptable" boundaries and laziness is the optimal choice. It's fucking disgusting.

Hello, my fellow non-believer, atheist, and agnostic. At this time, humanity has taken a step toward secularization. The increase of godless-minded people like us has had a significant impact on human civilization. We are now part of the major culture, beliefs, and traditions of every society in every nation. We carry the idealogy of the great mind that contributes to western and eastern philosophy, sharing a common belief and goal: ending lies upon lies of believers, the liberation of human belief and ethic, the desired of technological advancement, scientific discovery and renovation, and the improvement of human livelihood and prosperity. We want humanity to have a better future, to fix every problem, and to reunite the fractured world. We are the non-believers; people who act according to our developed beliefs, knowledge, and wisdom that we attain from our own lives; the selfless people we are willing to be compassionate without anything in return; and the great supporters of scientific practice and thinking, as well as economic development and implementation in our world.

I enjoy these satires. I also enjoy debating Christians especially in a time that allows me the luxury not to get crucified on the very cross they seem to worship today (paradox). I sometimes imagine if Jesus looked down on them today whether he would even find it a symbol of faith to wear a cross which was a symbol of his death, and man's rejection of him.
