I’m sure someone said this already ( I was too lazy to search the comments) but put the metal plates that secure the crossbars on BEFORE you put the bars on. Leave them loose, take off one of the end caps of the crossbar and press up on the screws holding the plates while sliding the bar into place. Way easier. Just installed this myself, worked like a charm. Thanks for the Vid! It was very helpful.

So I never went back and corrected the video. I ended up exchanging the large 68” bars for the 60” because they looked really goofy. The 60” are perfect honestly, but it really depends on what you want to carry. Like if you had a roof top tent and wanted to carry kayaks it would make sense to have the 68”. But if you’re towing a camper, and just want to carry kayaks the 60” are perfect and still offer versatility to carry other stuff.

Awesome video! Helped me decide these are exactly what I need. Now if only these truck makers would start producing more useful beds. For example, a short bed F-150 has stake pockets, but the front ones are hidden and you have to cut up the plastic cover. They should offer factory accessories. And roof racks, there should be mounts on the roof for racks. BMW has little screw holes bracket setups so you can easily slap a roof rack on top and screw it on. Take em off and close the plastic covers. With a Ford, it’s gotta be permanent. Luckily the Rivian offers cool rack mounts. Sorry for the rant.

Do you think you could mount this to a utility trailer? Would the clamps hold it down properly or would you need to weld or drill the plates to the trailer? Thanks for the info.
@pnwoutdoors88733 жыл бұрын
Anything is possible with some Ingenuity, however the base does need a 3” or so platform to sit on and a lip on the underside for the clamps to work correctly. There is a conversion kit for trucks that don’t have the lip like Nissans or Toyotas but I’m not super familiar so I couldn’t say if it would work. Honestly just welding or screwing some angle iron on the rim of the trailer would likely work just fine.

I believe so yes, just undo the stop screw and the whole thing slides out. But frankly you’ll likely find you won’t need to, the “long” ones accommodate 90% of the setups, very few configurations would require the short ones

So I have a couple videos with the RTT on there. It will adjust high enough for me to get my Honda rubicon up there, but the overhead clearance makes it very very difficult to ride the quad up and down. @pnwoutdoors88732 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I appreciate that! You can lock all 4 points but you’d have to buy more platform bases from Yakima to do so, and after having it, it’s not necessary. I would still agree with my assessment however I did wind up buying the 68” cross bars as the 78” were unnecessarily large for what I was doing and looked goofy. The only real down side is trying to use the back of the truck to haul bikes or bark or something the rack makes things a little inconvenient but I still would rather have it than not for it’s other uses. It’s easy enough to take off so no worries there. Thanks for your support!

How is it so far? Can you put a bed cover with it too?
@pnwoutdoors88732 жыл бұрын
It’s great, kind of a pain in someways when I’m not using it trying to haul stuff in the bed, or get up to wash the roof of the truck. You can put a bed cover/tauneau cover on but that requires a different adapter kit sold separately. Otherwise I do like it, easy enough to take on and off. Kind of a pain to adjust, so like if I want to haul my roof top tent, I like to adjust it low, over if I need to haul ladders, I need to adjust it higher to clear the cab, it’s inconvenient to adjust, but the versatility to be able to adjust it is a positive, so you get the best of both worlds.

What rack can get with ramboxes???
@pnwoutdoors8873 Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I know what you mean. Do you mean the fender storage boxes that dodge has built in to the bed fenders? If so, unfortunately this rack, and most racks will hinder your ability to use or open them. That’s an unfortunate downside to dodges design. It’s a good idea, but takes away a lot of versatility for the truck and mounting canopies, T covers, bed racks. Where you gain in one area you lose in another. If I were to offer my own opinion; dodges design; while well intended, well designed, didn’t consider market needs for truck and was overall just a bad idea, because it takes away from the concept of versatility we expect. In essence, it’s simply a gimmick and lacks functionality for the masses and really only helps a small niche group of folks. But again, that’s my own opinion. Now dodge might be an absolute genius in that they thought about this and they designed a whole bunch of accessories to accommodate that bed design allowing you to buy all the accessories; but only from dodge since it’s a proprietary design. My recommendation at the moment is to check with mopar and see what accessories they have, you might be surprised and they have something that works for what you want. I mean, it’s a truck, so they’ve likely thought about the possibilities and potential, but as far as the Yakima rack, I don’t think it’ll work for you. But I’m certain there are companies out there that have designed something, I’m just personally not familiar being a Chevy/gmc owner. I hope this helps, and if you find something, make a video my friend, I’m sure a lot of other folks are scratching their heads trying to solve the same problem! Thanks for watching my video man, means a lot!

@pnwoutdoors88733 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you’re trying do or carry. Even though in the video I had the 78” I ended up exchanging them for the 68” because the 78” looked goofy/disproportionate on my truck. So I have the 68” on my full size. 68” on your ranger may look a little goofy/disproportionate 60” would fit great and accommodates 99% of roof top tents. That said it just depends on what you’re doing. Have you measured the width of the truck bed across the top rails? That’s the size you should go for+\- a couple inches. But getting the 68” won’t hurt anything either

@@pnwoutdoors8873 Will I need the base mounts if I am getting the tonneau xr kit?
@pnwoutdoors88733 жыл бұрын
@@crazycomments8038 I’m not sure what you’re asking. To my knowledge the uprights or posts come with the standard base mount assemblies and are not sold separately, but I could be wrong, the tonneau Xr kit is sold separately for roughly $140 I think. So think you’ll wind up with the standard base mount no matter what and have to spend extra for the tonneau kit. This unfortunately is where Yakima failed despite the versatility of the rack system is the tonneau and Tacoma/Nissan adapter kits kits are sold separate and you can’t order them as a set minus the standard base mounts, putting some people at a cost disadvantage depending on their set up. What they really should have done is offered custom setup kits to choose your mount options as opposed to one kit requiring different adapter kits.
