Isn't Yakuza 7 gonna have a new protagonist? All Kiryu ever wanted to was to be from the prison that is the Yakuza. Now that he is officially stated dead, the Yakuza has no reason to look for him anymore. It came at the price of losing everyone close to him though like Nagumo and the Family, Daigo, Haruka, the orphans and little Haruto. Date is probably his only contact, just in case something DOES happen to where he is needed, but for the most part, he is a free man and there is literally no reason for the Yakuza to ever harm his family again. I would hope to see him in a later Yakuza as a old Kiryu that has enjoyed the remainder of his life in peace and finally meeting Haruka after years apart.

The Tojo Clan was destined to screw up, regardless of who was the leader. The Tojo Clan lost the 10 billion yen and most of their best men in 1, including Kazama, Shimano, and Sera. Then, the events in 2 pretty much ensured that the Tojo Clan can never truly recover from the events in 1 thanks to Terada. In Yakuza 3, they lost Kashiwagi and Mine, the latter who was the Tojo Clan's moneymaker. There's no happy end in the life of yakuza. It's a fitting end and it's the best thing that Kiryu could've done, if not he's gonna get pulled into any yakuza or Tojo clan shitshow all over again until the day he died. This is also the reason why Kazama forbid Kiryu and Nishiki to joined Yakuza because he knew it's not going to end well no matter what. Either he cut ties with everyone he knew or else people that he cares about might die just like Kazama, Nishiki, Yumi, Kashiwagi, Rikiya, etc.

Though he may never see Haruka or the others again, he explicitly says that he would die for them, and while not doing so literally in this case, for most people, the Dragon of Dojima is dead. We’ve seen him make seemingly lasting bonds with the taxi company, we’ve seen him become bros and friends with the folks and New Gaudi, he’s still got the magic touch with the ladies. And above all else: he’s alive. I’m enough of an optimist to believe that Kiryu will guide Haruka and Haruto the same way Leela’s parents did with her when they left her in that orphanage. Someday Haruka and Haruto will learn the truth about Kiryu and connect because if Akiyama is up to something and Date knows about Kiryu, something WILL give. It was never about the money. If the secret came out, then Japan would probably have to go through an entire reshuffling of their top officials, which would lead to a prolonged period of economic instability from unconfidence both domestically and abroad. Either that happens, or everyone decides that it's not that big a deal and moves on with their daily lives and accepts corrupt politicians (or put in place by corrupt politicians) running Japan. Kiryu doesn't want to be responsible for causing another severe economic downturn in Japan. It's not implied, but it can be vaguely assumed that Kiryu knows what it's like during a severe downturn, since he lost Tachibana Real Estate (it no longer exists in 1995)

This is the most epic ending to a saga. Kiryu watching Haruto try to walk is the best part of it all- Kiryu takes a step, Haruto takes a step- The symbolism is so deep literally made my eyes water up a bit. Kiryu has lost so many people in his life. He struggled to get past through it, but he can't just take it anymore. If you think about it, Kiryu's a very protective man and would do anything for those that he cares for. For the past 11 or 10 years, his life was happy with Haruka. This got me thinking, he lost Nishiki, Yumi, Kazama, and other people. The only person that he didn't lose yet is of course his adoptive daughter and that's Haruka Sawamura. We all know Kiryu loved and cared for her and would risk his own life to protect her and Haruto. He even said it himself in the game:"Haruka, Haruto, and the others...they mean more than the world to me. Even if it means protecting them, I'd gladly give my life." Since Kiryu failed to protect those that he cared for in the past, he now has decided to protect them for real this time, by faking his own death and leaving them to have a happy life. It's like Majima leaving Makoto so she can have a safe and happy life. I'm sure Kiryu this time is like: "I've lost so many people in the past, Nishiki, Yumi, Kazama-san, all of them are gone and I failed to protect them. Haruka's the only one I have. I care for her so much, and if she keeps getting kidnapped including Haruto and if both of them get killed, I'll have no one else in my life anymore. So this time, I'm going to protect them for real by leaving them and faking my own death. I want them to have a happy life." And that's exactly what Kiryu did, he left them forever and is probably never gonna see them again. It must be hard for him because he took care of Haruka for 11 years and decided to leave her for good so she won't get killed. Give this man a great amount of respect, he did the right thing. Now he needs a break from being the protagonist which really sucks and Ichiban is taking his spot. Let's see what awaits us yakuza fans in Yakuza 7. Goodbye Kazuma Kiryu, known as the Dragon of Dojima, take a break now. You will always be the number one best protagonist in the entire Yakuza series. I'll miss the bromance between him and Majima. Yakuza is a fantastic game series. I'm still new to it but I know most of the storyline. Please play this game, it's worth it. This is really long, sorry. Took me forever to type this.

i'm convinced that once things are "safe" (like when certain politicians are out of power) kiryu will go back and spend time with haruka and explain why he had to stay away. like, the dude is barely 50, he has a lot of life left to live(and sega has a lot of money) so i definitely see him showing up in more games, like he did in 7. at the moment, he seems to be in a state of limbo where he's hiding but also helping, and daigo AND MAJIMA both know he's alive soooo... i'm sure it will get back to haruka eventually. i just really need that to happen.

We needed a scene where Majima pops up from behind a wall when Kiryu is watching Haruto and asks to fight him for SSSS rank Seriously though, having followed Kiryu's story since 0 and each game retroactively - it's crushing to think it'll be the end of his story. It's like losing a father. While Yakuza 6 could've used more links to the first four games as it was the end of an era and the fanbase would've loved old cast and references to past games, it was a good story about family and parenthood rather than a story about Kiryu. I love the cinematic feel of the game because it gives me hope for another film and the gameplay isn't too shabby, different but I like it. Great game albeit not perfect, it's a good Swan song. Damn, if I didn't cry hard though

Kiryu's story in general, as well as his relationship with Haruka and Daigo specifically are the best stories ever told in gaming. Spanning across seven games and 30 years of his life, by the time it's done, you feel like you know this guy on such a personal level. By the time you get to this point, it's pure heartbreak that he chooses to walk away to ensure everyone's safety. And with the game world, you really feel like you've become a resident of Sotenbori and Kamurocho. You don't need a map to get around after a few games. You are immersed in them. And the locales change over the years like a real city does, but it still feels like home. When you end up in other places, you feel like a visitor, just like the character does.

Great ending, it was very surprised when I realized that the letter was directed to Daigo but honestly he deserves it and you could indeed say that in a way Kiryu is like a father to him. I also really enjoyed seeing everyone react to Kiryu’s “death”, Majima drops the mad dog act and just acts like he does in 0, Saejima probably thinks that he died protecting what was important to him and has respect for him, Akiyama straight up doesn’t buy it, Daigo is filled with determination to do right and Haruka is devastated. +the pained look in Date’s face knowing that Kiryu won’t be able to enjoy the company of the people he cares about and did anything to protect.
