hey alice, I'm so grateful for your helpful videos. I haven't been making music for long but I don't want to work with a DAW. I'm trying to implement your tips with the Roland MC707. It's really very difficult and I always fail because of the sound picking, melodies and synthys that overlap.

Amazing how you are able to explain everything effortlessly. I always end up overcomplicating things and eventually trash the 'track' as I get stuck with too may elements. Back to basics, back to simplicity for me and your channel will help me with that! Keep up the good work.

Very nice video! I've seen so many conflicting info on this, and you nailed it here, the fact that movement in the sound is what sets this apart. Lots of jump in octaves, and lots of play with volume envelope, filter envelopes ect.

I recently discovered your channel. You are very professional. Unbelievable how you can name everything we can here in a techno music. Back in the days, Emmanuel Top - Climax, Energy 52 - Café Del Mar '98 (Three 'N One Mix), etc. They were so cool sounding techno music. Now you created same feeling for me in 2024. Keep up the good work.

very nice!! thank you! what about the tuning of the kick in relation with the bass, you tune it root note of the track, maybe kick to root and bass to 3rd or 5th??
@Alice-Efe7 ай бұрын
I like to tune it to either root or the 5th. But 3rd should work as well. That being said, if the kick is super short and doesnt have any audible sustained sub, it doesnt matter. Also some kicks would have constant pitch roll, those can't be "tuned" for example and can sound good in a mix. So it depends a little bit on the kick I am using. 😊

You give good tips, but I wonder what happened to melodic techno in general. Are people only using one-note offbeat basslines? were is the fun :-)
@Alice-Efe7 ай бұрын
Robert! ❤ Thank you! It is kind of the case and the rolling basslines and 8th/dotted 8th patterns are popular in mainroom/club tracks right now. They create a driving energy that's perfect for dancing, which I've definitely experienced firsthand at clubs and festivals when I DJed too. It seems the current trend favors 'in your face' tracks, and these basslines provide the necessary power while leaving space for big leads and hooks. Of course, there's a whole world of melodic techno with diverse basslines beyond the mainstream. I like to go to Beatport hype releases and do a bit of crate digging to hear some leftfield songs in the genre. I think we are at the moment where melodic techno got so big that it has to split into sub genres to keep evolving. Like techno did.

Hey Alice, great stuff here as always! I have question if you don't mind, on the 4bar LFO2 on the filter on the bass. If you add an extra bar or a two bar break the envelope ends up out of sync. I have had this problem on a number of tracks. Is there a way to compensate for that.
