If you tell a reporter something off the record, they are not to report it. This way one can give a reporter a little background while not making it public. Also, "not for attribution" tells a reporter that it's okay to report it, but not say where the info came from. So it could be repoorted like "Sources indicate ...."

"Off the Record" is a term journalists use. Simply put "here's what I know but you cannot tell anyone about this yet". Those reporters who don't respect the 'off the record' rule will end their career almost instantly.

Tbh, it felt like a missed opportunity to not play the Addams' Family theme song before the snap twice. And yes, that was a thing. The franchise started as a comic strip but the first adaptation was a live action sitcom in the black-and-white days. The opening credits was the entire cast just standing there and staring at the camera while the song plays. The only movement they made was raising their hands to snap twice on time with the music now and then.

So I don't know about normally but when Weems say its off the record, its because Wednesday is a minor and has to have a guardian to talk to police. So without Weems there as her guardian, I don't think the sheriff can legally use anything Wednesday says

"...does off the record actually mean anything..." Yes/no. It effectively means 'if you repeat anything I am about to say, I will deny that I said it, and it then comes down to just your word versus mine'. On the other hand, if you _confess to a crime_ to a _cop,_ saying 'off the record' won't help you much. Them not having it _recorded_ on body-cam or similar will, since at that point you can just deny you said any such thing. Notice that Tyler, specifically, states 'for the record'. In that case stating that, if questioned, he plans to repepat what he's about to say. The term 'off the record' in the wild is _mainly_ aimed at _investigative reporters,_ for whom their _reputation_ is key. If a reporter gets a reputation for reporting things that were 'off the record', no one will talk to them... and that's the end of their career in investigative journalism. They can report on the weather, or sports, or 'the light side of the news', maybe, but being known to be dishonest is a real killer in journalism. Some things are said in this way as an intent to help the journalist (or whoever) _without_ compromising themselves. The _other_ way that it's sometimes used is in court to make sure the opposing side agrees with what they just said (because sometimes people phrase things badly, asking about it gives people a chance to change their mind or rephrase). You can see _this_ use of it in A Miracle on 34th Street (the original for sure, not sure about the '91 remake). In _this_ case, in the show, I think the idea was to try to let the Sheriff know that even though Weems doesn't really _trust_ Wednesday, Weems is still going to _look after_ Wednesday, _including_ denying problematic things if it comes up. "...in a perfect world, they would be together..." Maybe. In a perfect world, whether they are or aren't would be _irrelevant._ It wouldn't even be a topic for conversation. The reason they _aren't_ together is... well, due to who the Addams _are._ They are _supposed_ to be 'weird' or 'odd' or 'strange', not to mention 'creepy'. That's not a thing you want associated with a minority that is still largely stigmatized. It would be _more_ acceptable in _this_ setting, because... well... the _whole place_ is filled with a lot of oddities (vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters, sirens, gorgons... and no, I will _not_ call them 'Medusas' as 'Medusa' was the name of _one being,_ not a whole _class_ of beings). "...the police are so sloppy, how did they not even see that..." Have you ever looked for something in a cluttered space? Played a 'hidden item' game? Now do the same thing, but at night... without knowing what you're looking for... in a search area with an unknown size (remember, they couldn't find the body, so they didn't have an exact search location)... when the object itself is very hard to see (dark glasses against a dark background of leaves, all you can really see, unless you're lucky with the light, is the rims, and it's small). You wear glasses, haven't you ever misplaced them and walked past where they were a few times without seeing them, even though you _knew_ what you were looking for? Missing a pair of glasses is _easy_ to do. "...I can't hate Bianca, they're trying to make her a bad guy..." Are they? Or are they just more accurately portraying a 'popular teen girl', and in this case it's largely _Wednesday_ who is in the wrong? Wednesday _hasn't_ always been in the right in this series even so far, despite her being the protagonist. "...Weems is a funny name, it sounds goofy..." You might wanna consider it's a Scottish name, and has been around for a few centuries. ... So there's probably more than a few around, including about 10,000 of them in the USA, according to the HouseOfNames website. "...I need a thesaurus..." The word you were looking for, I believe, was 'cathartic'. "...do you wanna wait for my reaction to episode three..." I can't wait... largely because I watched the whole series prior to you reacting to the first episode. However, as I've been here to see both of your reactions so far, and that 10% of your subscriber count has seen in within a day... well, I think it's a good idea. Loved your reactions. :)

7:51 "If Netflix weren't so scared of gays and lesbians, they could have set Enid and Wednesday up together" I think a lot of people fail to look at this in context. I really don't think it has anything to do with Netflix being scared of it, and probably not even that most of the show and movie creators are. Studies suggest that anywhere from around 80-something to 90-something percent of people are exclusively heterosexual. And people tend to write what they know. Can a straight person write a gay relationship? Sure. But it's not as natural to do. To be frank, while we do need more representation for non-heterosexual relationships, it's accurate representation for them to be in the minority when compared to heterosexual relationships. I don't think it's necessarily a smart move to try to insert it in everything, because that wouldn't be a very accurate representation of the world we live in. Which is actually my main contention with most non-hetero relationships I see in media. They treat it like it's a straight relationship, where almost anyone could be attracted to each other. They almost never deal with the more common reality that most people won't reciprocate the attraction, because most people are heterosexual. I mean, if we look at the real-world probabilities, it's incredibly unlikely that Wednesday and Enid could ever be a thing. The chances that either one of them is gay or bi are already slim, like a 10-20% chance, and the chances that both of them would be are even slimmer. Because of how compound probability works, it would be a 1-4% chance that both of them could be attracted to each other. And then you still even have to add on the chances of them actually being each other's type. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that it kind of annoys me that everyone is always attacking straight relationships and characters in shows for being straight, when there are tons of very logical reasons why they would be. I get why, people want to see themselves represented more in the media they consume, but I think it just fails to acknowledge the reality of the situation. And it's really not all that useful.
