A good idea to place a good amount of marine grease on the neck of the new starter to help make it easier to remove in the future, make sure you have the washers and spring for the bendix when you re assemble and they are in the right order, they go in the flywheel cover and help push the bendix back once motor is going

Awesome advice. I don’t recall have washers or a spring that sit in front of the bendix. A bit concerning actually. I’ve since started the jetski engine (had a heap of other issues - coming in an upcoming video) and haven’t had a problem with the bendix but I’d hate for it to fail while it’s out on the water. Hmmm. Not sure what to do.

@@Intheshedwithdarren I have a jet boat and jet ski with the same 65u motors, one of the bendix’s failed due to water getting in and the spring rusted in a compressed state, you definitely need the spring to push the bendix away once engine is running, pain to change bendix as you need to remove flywheel 50nm bolt and holding the crankshaft whilst removing, may need to pull engine, so much easier to have a working spring 👍

@@jasons4745great info. Thanks. I really appreciate it. I don’t know much about these engines. Does a new bendix come with a replacement spring and washer?

@@Intheshedwithdarren the washers and spring can be ordered Yamaha parts online very cheap maybe under $30, new oem bendix $450 and tricky to replace
Ha! I was looking at this for a while on FB marketplace, he had two skis for sale didnt he in Melbourne? And this was about $1200. I was going to buy it to steal the 760 motor for my wave raider, its a good buy when you look up how much those motors go for by themselves, let alone the pumps etc.

It could be the same ski. It was in Melb, cheaper than that and he only had 1 ski but it could be. I don’t know anything about 2 strokes. 😂 No idea what the motors go for but very very happy that the motor appears to be in good shape. Really looking forward to firing it up and going for a ride. Thanks for watching. Good luck with the wave raider

Best case scenario! Not super impressed with the design of that starter tho - mild steel and a shitty seal in the bottom of a boat?! 😂
