Why did you fill it to the "std" level and not the reverse level when your sled has reverse?

When I checked the level before emptying, it was filled to the "std" level, so that's how much I put back in. The service manual says to put 250mL in, but you've pointed out an interesting discrepancy in that the manual also says to only fill to the "rev" line on the dipstick. Well, the sled worked before the oil change (forward and revers) and after the oil change, so I guess it doesn't matter? Any Yamaha nerds with more knowledge than me please feel free to step in here!

@@sconnieadventuresThat's exactly why I commented! Both of my yamaha sleds with reverse were filled to the "std" level. Wasn't sure if it is common procedure to disregard the "reverse" side of dipstick after noticing this trend. Ultimately I chose to use the reverse level per Yamaha instructions (and it simply makes sense).

@@Ryan-uw1hw That makes sense, glad it worked for ya! Thinking about the chain case, I wonder why the different levels matter? The chain case oil just provides some lubrication to the chain that transfers power from the jack shaft (connected to the clutch) to the part that rotates the track. The chain case housing is just open space, no pressure like engine oil. So more oil should be okay? The version with reverse must have less volume inside, that's why the dipstick marking is lower?

@@sconnieadventures This is a very frustrating topic. I am dealing with the same issue with rx1. Tons of forums with no clear answers. My dealership mechanics don't even agree. The last answer they gave me was just put in 8oz and you should be okay that is not a very reassuring answer. I am just going to wing it at this point. The problem I have is it was used and right now it is way to full on the dipstick it is over the word reverse and onto the smooth part of the stick. going to drain and try to measure oz for shits and grins
