This is why I’m glad i have a Viper. Remove a single screw from back of seat, lift off seat, there’s the battery. My dad has an Apex, that’s the reason for watching this video. Thanks for sharing. Good job being right to the point with no bull.

That's a reason to be glad to have a viper? Enjoy pulling chain case apart to change chain case oil? Like exhaust removal for oil change? Come on man every sled has their pain points on the rider forward
@snowbound98 Жыл бұрын
@@666dynomax battery wasn’t bad on the Apex, I change the oil filter every year when I do the oil change and that’s under the battery tray. I don’t mind pulling the chaincase every year on my Viper and Sidewinder. I overkill maintenance on all the sleds. The Nytro ER and Apex are worse for pulling the chaincase apart to clean and inspect. I installed “The Greaser” on the Nytro, Apex, Viper and Sidewinder which helped a lot so I don’t have to pull them apart to grease the driveshaft bearings. But I still grease the jackshaft bearings on them all. But that’s easy because at the end of the year I pull all the clutches off and disassemble them until they are going back together for season. My tracks all hang loose and shocks are gone through every year too. I make sure I have trouble free seasons unless I wreck or thrash something unexpectedly. But yes, you are correct, every brand and every model have their pros and cons. I wasn’t bashing the Apex.

@@snowbound98 i watched your video again i just had to change my apex battery. ended up I ordered the wrong battery for my renegade, a YTX20H rather than HL... some have used the YTX20H in place of the stock battery... as I did. it starts much quicker now. funny thing is you throw away the foam piece and its like they built hte box to hold the YTX20H.... zero modification... seemed more work to make the tetris block foam spacer lol.

On a 2011 and later Apex no need to take the headlight assembly off. Skip part 1:30 - 2:30. Starting with 2:30 remove the 4 bolts holding the bracket down and the light assembly is attached to the bracket and both come out as one. This may apply to earlier Apex but not sure.

I changed my battery on my 2007 Yamaha apex rtx today, you do not have to take the windshield off, or the light bracket.and you do not have to take the top air box top off. just the whole air box

thanks for this vid...pretty much identical process for a 2012 Vector LTX and this helped me get at the battery. I used the opportunity to put a tender connector on and accessible without having to take anything off anymore!

this is the ONLY thing that so pisses me off. the fact that normal regular maintenance results in a very rigerous teardown.

wasn't too bad, a bit time consuming to get at it. It was right under the battery on mine. Remove battery and bracket that holds battery in place.

Thanks for the video, bought a brand spanking new 2016 Vector XTX in March 2017 with zero miles on it. Rode it 200' to the heated/air conditioned garage and the battery is dead and wouldn't take a charge in December 2018 - have not put the first mile on it and I'm tearing this thing apart. I started it every month or so and let it warm up inside till last fall when the battery was not cranking very fast. Whatever battery Yammi puts in these things is just plain trash.
@profdave28615 жыл бұрын
joe sixpack Did you charge the battery at all in the off season? It’s best to either put a trickle charger on it or give it at least one full charge over the summer. My original 2013 Apex battery lasted until this summer. The sled was built in the late summer of 2012, so thats 7 years. Pretty good for a “trash” battery. Either you happened to get that one in a thousand defective battery or maybe there’s something drawing current when it’s off. If a lead acid battery is fully discharged in warm weather, it will be a boat anchor within a couple of months.
@joerutkowsky3261 Жыл бұрын
If you just want to charge your battery and not replace it. There is cables that are on the right side just in front of the oil tank. They are there for this reason. Red and black cables with a rubber cap on the end. Also if you need to boost it to. In the offseason I put my battery tender on those cables.

What if battery is dead dead just leave it be on tender and it'll revive itself really don't wanna tear mine down haha

I can get it to turn over a couple times then slows down, put on a 50 amp booster and got it to run but didn't let it run all day and didn't have enough snow so battery never charged lol

Why would you take the Battery out? To charge it? just hooked Up a Trickle Charger, to the two cables that are on the right side of the machine, Where you would hook the jumper cables too, when you have an emergency start?.... Taking the battery out of the Apex, is just to much work? Just to charge the Battery?
@androided7710 жыл бұрын
The battery need replaced because is would not take a charge. A battery at rest should be over 12v dc on multimeter. If you leave your meter attached to battery with the hold button on it will record low volts and high volts...anyways when you start your sled it should not read below 9v dc or the battery needs replaced because after a cold night in the woods you will have a 500 pound problem :/
