Yamaha is the prettiest, hands down, and sounds very good. I'd like one. Maton is beautifully understated with an unusual combination of woods and a full, rich sound, right out of the (included) case! I'd like one. The Seagull is something with which I'm familiar. There are four (4) 'Gulls in our family; three S-6's...(one each of cedar, spruce and 'hog tops)...and Maritime Mini-Jumbo. We love them!!

Seagull is miles away from the others, I have my own version probably made in the 90’s and honestly I won’t change cause the projection is just great, sound is clear and pleasant and I really love the head and the Canadian hand made and wood :) So what else ;)

I got a seagull s6 at a pawnshop for about $75. Had some dings and scratches, but sounded fantastic. Only issue I had was the ungodly high action fixed by sanding down the saddle alot.

I prefer the Seagull s6. I don't own that model but have a S6 spruce/cherry concert slim and the s6 mahogany deluxe and they both have amazing tone for the price. I play every guitar in the shops and I can't believe what you get for the price of a seagull.. way more guitar than you would expect! However that being said.. I so prefer the thinner nut width. The concert has a 1.72 that is so comfortable.. the 1.8 of the mahogany dread is uncomfortable and annoying on my girly hands...and unlike this s6 it doesn't come in the slim version. I have never seen or played a Maton and I am intrigued. Will have to check them out if we ever get to Oz.

Seagull S6 is my favorite. This thing has a silver maple neck that will never wear out.You could use it as a weapon in case your fans get out of control.

They are different guitars with intended different voices. The Seagull and Maton are a Dreadnought design and the Yamaha is a concert type body. The Yamaha LL would have been a better comparison IMO.

The Seagull S6 is the clear winner here. Better tone and better volume projection than the other two, and quite amazing that the Seagull S6 is a bolt on neck acoustic guitar.

I didn't realise the Maton was made in Vic with Queensland maple. I liked the Seagull as well but love the fact I can get a local made guitar of this quality at this price.

If I were an Aussie, I would also get the Maton because even though the Seagull sounded better, it's always a great thing to support your local economy. I'm a Canadian and I think that the Maton was a great sounding guitar!

I would choose the Seagull simply because of the wide neck but I do like the brightness of the Yamaha. The Maton,good though it is,is considerably more expensive--in the UK at any rate.

I'm selling my Taylor 414ce (roughly $2,200 brand new) to buy a Seagull guitar (not sure which yet, but the S6 is roughly $450 brand new). I played the Seagull S6 at a guitar store, along with another Seagull model, and I felt that they blew my Taylor out of the water. Taylor just doesn't have the tone I like, especially not at the price they sell for. I even think the Seagull looks cooler. Cheers!

3 very different guitars, but you can hear the difference between all solid and laminated wood. The sound of the laminate wood is more boxed in, muffled even, while the solid sounds much clearer and more balanced. It's the Maton for me.

I own that same Yamaha hand I truly enjoy it it's punchy and has great tone for its size, Yamaha all the way! I don't think the comparison did the Yamaha any justice in my opinion.

I find the Seagull was best overall, what is your opinion? Did the audience choose one in particular? I have an S6 I bought in Germany for about $800 back in 94 or 95. I love the sound and I think it even sounds as good as my Taylor 914SE

I like the LS6. It has a solid top and laminated Rosewood sides.... but don't let that put you off. Some of the very best acoustic guitars have laminated backs and sides.

The Maton is the crispest and brightest by far and is a very nice guitar in its own right. While buying I compared it to the Seagull and an LS6 as well as a Martin and Taylor. My choice then was Maton, Yamaha, Martin, Seagull, Taylor. Obviously I bought the Maton. After a few years i bought a Yamaha LS6 for my daughter and an FG800 for my son and thus had an opportunity to play them back to back for an extended period. I grew to love both Yamahas more than the Maton. Both Yamahas have a more balanced sound. And even the smaller LS has more bass than the Maton. I sold the Maton and bought an LJ16. That's a different size again.

I live in Dubai and own the Seagull and Yam LS6 ARE. The Seagull is a very nice guitar and I like it’s neck. But overall The Yamaha is not just prettier, projection of sound with its smaller but deep body is even better than my Seagull. And the last bit no matter how extreme our weather gets with heat n humidity the Yamaha never has drastic action differences. It’s built like a tank for any region

Seagull is easily the winner. The Yamaha and Maton were dull sounding with no projection. The Maton is especially plain looking. Excellent job demoing for review!

I bought a used Sea Gull over a few others. I thought it cost more than the Martin I tested, the Sea Gull was so good that I told my wife that I am going to bite the bullet and get the Sea Gull! It was only $190.00 used. Ship the cork sniffers with Taylor and Martin stuff. My little guitar from the north country is amazing. That nut with a narrow head never goes out of tune.

I don’t think this video did justice to the actual comparison of these three guitars. Although I do understand this was done for a local market with a comparison on a price point. Each guitar should at least have the same top as when a person does not have the opportunity to actually play the instrument, all they can make a decision on is the tone of each guitar. The Seagull line of guitars does offer that in their least expensive line called the Entourage series. And yes I do own two of these beautiful handmade guitars. And it’s not just the price point for that reason. Also I would like to add that I am looking forward to the opportunity to play one of these Maton Guitars. Just might be adding one of these to my collection as well and I will thank you for that.

7years ago, bought a Seagull Maritime for me, 2years later, bought a Seagull S6 for my dayghter to learn guitar, and I find myself playing this S6 often, the sound is awsome. Don,t know about the the Maton and Yamaha, but Tommy Emmanuel plays Maton, and is the best guitar player on the planet, so there must be something good about them.

They are all nice sounding for sure but I will tell you out of the hundreds of reviews this was the best example of how different woods sounded ...well different , the cedar was definitely darker more bass the spruce rosewood brighter & the maple spruce Maton also bright but being larger sized more open not as punchy but the Seagull although this great zeppelin song wasn't the best choice for that guitar, final opinion = get 2 !!!! lol

The best way is to hear them live. I have never played a Maton, so I can't say how good it sounds, but they do have excellent reputations. I've played numerous times on different S6s, even owned one for about 6 years. I only tried one LS6. Of the latter two, I liked the tone of the Yamaha quite a bit better, it has a little richer overtones and the high end really sparkles compared to the Gull. I've been playing for many decades and have accumulated quite few nice guitars over the years and like to think I have a pretty good ear, but it is still my subjective opinion, so go out and compare them for yourselves, you really can't go wrong with either of them. Both of them are well made and will hold up for many years with proper care. I will say that almost every Yamaha I've come across, was nicely set up, regardless of model. Not always so with the Seagulls, they seem to have a little more variance.

I own a Maton all solid S60 and a Godin 5th Ave archtop(Canadian wild cherry wood). I love the Maton for it's playability, balanced tone and volume. I don't think this video brings out the Maton's volume that much. Mine is as loud as some Martins. I love the workmanship of the Godin who also make Seagull so I guess the fit and finish of the Seagull would be excellent. The cedar top would make it 'warmer' and more mellow and as another poster here said cedar tends to sound full when new whereas most spruce tops need some playing in.. I guess as always it comes down to personal taste. I love all solid guitars and the satin type finish. Even though full gloss polyurethane is durable, it can make the guitar look like plastic. Both the Maton and Seagull are satin.

Why didn't you compare the Seagull to the Yamaha LL6? LS6 has a smaller body and it can't sound like Seagull S6 or Yamaha LL6. LL6 and Seagull S6 Original - are two best acoustic guitars I heard.

Well, if you were to compare under $1,000 guitars, you should've chosen one from Seagull's Maritime line, since it sports a solid top and back, like the Maton s60, and, these days, you can buy one for around $650-700. The S6 Original sounds amazing, but it only has a solid top and it sells for less than $500, not $1000. )

I like the Seagull S6. Second is Maton S60. Fun fact, Richard Marx wrote most of his songs on his Maton guitar, that he keeps around since the 80’s. It’s his go to guitar.
