In this video, we compare the Yamaha MG10XU Audio Mixing Console to the Behringer Xenyx Q1202 USB Audio Mixer.
CORRECTION:
In this video, I incorrectly stated that the outputs on the Behringer are unbalanced. This is from the documentation that I received with my console ( • Are Behringer Xenyx Ou... ). Upon more testing and seeing an updated version of the documentation online, the outputs are in fact balanced which is a big upgrade from what is discussed in this video.

Thanks for the video, I was just about choosing between this two (except the Berhringer model is QX1202, which also has effects inside) and wasn't sure if it worth to overprice for Yamaha, which cost is almost 2 times higher in my region. So the video was very helpful for me, and I think I will take this Yamaha, as it's durability is really important for me (it's obviously better to pay once for Yamaha then 2 o more times for Behringer if it suddenly breaks), and I'm also was going to plug a guitar along with some other gear. i have Xenyx Q1202, it overheats a lot and fries an IC. the culprit is a poor heatsink, we replace the IC and added super big heatsink. still working since 2017

Those two consoles are incomparable, period! I own a couple of Xenyx consoles in addition to a console from Soundcraft. I've worked in quite a few studios on much bigger large-format consoles. Having said, don't mislead folks. Those Xenyx console series sound fucking good! Maybe too good for the asking price, but it cannot be denied. The micpres alone are ahead of the completion in the respective price ranges. May not mean much to you giving folks fair and proper information is never a bad thing.

this was so great .. THANK YOU I have had the BRNGR for a few years .. only sitting on my desk ... those mic channels are ALL Buzzing and I only ever used ONE of them .. The effects on it are great tho ... but if you can vouch for the effects on the Yamaha being good and tell me that the Yamaha is also good for DJ/Podcast purposes, then you would be giving me the only info I was unsure about after watching this thorough review Thanks again @Kettner Creative . Thank you very much for this interesting review. I have just bought a Yamaha MG10XU which I am going to connect to my PC through USB. If I used a long 3 metre USB cable would it cause any issues such as computer freezing? I just read the manual and they advised using a USB cable of no more than 1.5 metres. Any reply would be appreciated.

I prefer the Yamaha, sadly it's more than 3x the price of the Behringer in UK. Best deal on the Yamaha is B-Stock at UK £182, new is £215. Behringer is £64 on Amazon.

A great video! very well explained. I only disagree with the question of the durability of the Behringer table. I have a 10 year old Xenyx q502USB. Still working like new! I think the issue of console durability depends more on how the owner takes care of it! I, for example, take good care of my Behringer console, I never turn it on and off the wrong way, and also when I'm done using the equipment I put it back in the box to avoid it getting dust and etc.. One more problem with the Behringer is that it has low hiss on the headphone output and in the main mix. even with no instrument connected to it. But this does not interfere with recording. I've never used Yamaha consoles. But I wanted to know if this winch has on the Yamaha console too or not.

Behringer Xenyx X1204 USB has two balanced XLR main outputs. Better choice than this Q1202 USB.

where i live the MG10Xu are at 200 euro when q1202 cost 100.. so a big difference of price,, a Di box cost only 12 euro ,, and ppl rarely listen music on internet with HD sound quality .. like youtube are rly low quality ,, no more than a CD and it suits 99% of ppl.. its exactly the video i needed,, because i hesitate between the 2.. but i learn something,, i didnt know about DI box.. i was going to plug in just like this to any mixer or audio interface .. but it is rly necessary if i connect the mixer to a BASS CAB ? are it is risky for the mixer or for the amp come after ?

Try being fair instead, they are both quite good for certain applications, but at least compare the 1202FX instead by Behringer because it price compatible, in fact cheaper in most instances and then get back to me thanks.

Was wondering, still trying to decide between this, and the pyle, I was looking at the reviews on Amazon for the yamaha, someone said they liked that you can mute the individual channels, is that true, I only saw one mute button above the phone button. This is the reason I was leaning toward pyle, you can mute each channel and isolate each mic channel to preview through phones before patching in? Thx again

There's no mute buttons other than Stereo Mute. The review probably thought the Pad buttons for each channel was a Mute button, which does make my microphones silent or almost silent if the gain is Max out.

I haven't played with it myself. My initial impressions are that it's HUGE for a 8 channel mixer. Aside from that the layout looks good and it seems to have a comparable amount of gain and quality USB interface. I can't find any published specs on the noise of the preamps which is generally not a good sign.

it seems to me that this mixer and the Xenyx 1202USB (i own both) will not send playback of recorded audio from my laptop back to the mixer for monitoring *_via USB,_* and to monitor what i've recorded in my headphones, i would have to send audio from my laptop's headphone jack to my monitor input on the mixer, which is lesser quality (TRS) than the actual recording. am i correct? and if so, may i have a suggestion for monitoring the high quality audio recorded from the laptop to my high quality studio monitor headphones?

No, If you press the USB/Line button on 9/10 and "To Mon" on 9/10, you can monitor from the USB no problem.

Behringer has good point on balanced stereo input because I can send more instrument from DI on the stage to far away mixer back there... But it also about input itself, running Behringer on a dirty electricity just damaging these ports... I was using X2442usb, operating it on mono but the output of the mixer are more to the right even all of them running on mono.. Also hapened to XR18, my Left output just died after on a bad electricity...

Have you used the Yamaha MG12XU? Would it be worth the extra 150 dollars if I want a sub mix for outputting my microphone to different sources as well as the on/off per channel capabilities? Or would it be worth just getting the XUF version of the 10 input for 100 dollars less and using the FX out to send your mic to the secondary source? I want to be able to use the onboard FX as well as sending my mic output to a different source without sending the entire board. Sorry for the long question. Thanks for taking the time to consider :)

I have the MG16 so I'm familiar with it. The ON buttons are a huge plus and the second AUX is a huge plus as well. If you want FX and the Aux send, then the MG12XU sounds like a good fit.

I've been watching all your videos on the MG10XU, and out of all the content creators I've browsed you've been by far the most informative and clear on how the thing is supposed to work. And this video comparing the behringer products in the same price category really pushed me to save up for the Yamaha gear instead. Will you ever do a video on the MG16? Here in the Philippines the behringer is about 30’/. More expensive the yamaha. The yamaha one is 120 dollars and the behringer is like 200 bucks was checkimg the review's if it was fake but there were positive ones and negative ones the others complained that usb on the yamaha doesnt work and the others said i lt works

Keep in mind that some computers have USB chips that can't cope with the steady high bit rate of a 192KHz audio signal, because although they can work at the average rate required their input rates keep jumping up and down as they fill and empty their buffers. Obviously such USB ports are useless for high bit-rate audio or video, even if their specifications say they have the required bandwidth. Many USB chips are OK, many are not. It's easy to blame the wrong device when you don't know about this sort of variation in USB chips (and drivers I guess).

Yamaha, all day. Behringer quality just isn't there. I've used Yamaha small consoles on hundreds of events a year since 2013 without a single hardware issue. When I did this video it took me 3 different tries at buying the Behringer audio mixer in order to find one that worked, then the power supply died.
