Dear Cathy, thanks for your video(s) - I love them - and the additional information in the description. I like playing on my MOXF8 and I like playing with all the features and parameters this fine machine provides. What I really miss is a bigger screen. Sometimes the handling makes me really nervous. Therefore I installed the John Melas Tools on my PC, they are very helpful . You can configure and manage all your voices and performances via the PC. All settings can be done on the computer and then loaded into the MOXF. I like it. More information on John's website. See you :-) Regards from Francfort / Germany

Thanks, Raymond. Please watch my other video about saving User Voices. One of the statements I made in the above video is incorrect. I have learned more since making this video. For example, you don't really "lose" a factory pre-set voice when you save your new voice over it in a USR bank. When you are in the User Banks, the voices that are already there are just "place holders" until the time that you save voices you want in the USR banks. You can save newly created layered voices over them and they can still be found elsewhere in the Preset banks.

One little addition to this, if you press edit on the performance, but you left it in part edit mode when you saved, you will only get the part edit screen. You need to press the common button to see the naming screen you show. Confused me at first when the naming screen didn't show up upon pressing edit.

Nov 2021. I continue to visit your site to learn more. I'm trying to figure how to set a voice with a raised pitch ( for playing along with some songs that the Yamaha sounds flat against). I think it has something to do with a global setting but not really sure. the moxf is a great sounding board, but horribly un-intuitive.
@cathyt67733 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do. If you are playing along with a pre-recorded song and you want the whole song raised up in pitch, you have to hit "job" then "note" (F2 ) then "transpose" then dial the "TR" (track number) until it says "all" and then raise the pitch where you want it and hit "enter." Your whole song will now be transposed. If you want to play along live, however, you will have to use the "transpose" (+ or -) so your live playing will be in the same transposed key as the song. Hope that makes sense. BE CAREFUL about transposing tracks with percussion. You might want to leave them and just transpose the "pitched" instruments. You will have to transpose one track at a time if you do this. Your drums will sound weird if you transpose them. If you want to transpose your entire keyboard, just use "transpose" (buttons on the LH side of your keyboard) but you need to understand that this will not transpose a pre-recorded song.

is there a way where you can quickly switch from piano to the customized layers that you saved? For example, when I'm playing a verse i want to play just piano then when I go to chorus, I can change to the layers that I've created.
@cathyt6773 Жыл бұрын
Watch my video "Yamaha MOXF8 How to Use Master Mode." If you have created a layered voice and saved it, you can switch between piano only and the layered voice by saving them both in Master Mode and then using the 16 numbered buttons on the RH side of your keyboard to call them up. This will make sense when you watch the video. Or . . . you could create a layered voice (which becomes a Performance) and use the volume buttons on the LH side of your keyboard to bring down the voices you don't want to hear and then bring them up when you are on the chorus. To find out how to control the volume of different layers on a voice watch my video "Yamaha MOXF8 How to Control the Volume of Different Voices While Playing."

Thanks. That was helpful. Been wondering how to do that. I am having an issue with my moxf8, wondering if you can help me. Do you know how i overwrite presets (pre) voices? When I store my changes , instead of overwriting the preset (pre) voice it makes a new voice in user (usr) created . Also how do I delete a voice. If anyone knows how to save in in presets I would greatly appreciate it.
@cathyt67736 жыл бұрын
I think the presets cannot be changed and then permanently saved as a changed preset. That is what User voices are for. To delete a voice (one you created as a User voice) you probably just save something over the top of it in the same spot (i.e. User 1:001(A01) or User1:002 (A02). Please watch my video "How to Save a User Voice." It has more information about saving voices than my first video about creating voices and the second video explains things more clearly because I had a better understanding when I filmed it. I think it is important to watch.

Can you please help me? I am having e problem in control setting and effect settings of the voices
@cathyt67735 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what your problem is, but if you mean you are in song mode and you are hearing some effects on a voice that shouldn't be there, go to Job - Track - Clear Track and clear the track that is giving you trouble. Then re-enter the voice you want for that track and see if it clears up the problem.

Can I create 3 layers of voices and have it saved in voice mode and not performance mode ?
@cathyt6773 Жыл бұрын
I don't think so. Once you have layered a voice, it changes the mode to "performance" mode. Of course, once you are in "performance" mode you can layer a third and even a fourth voice. If you use Master Mode to save your favorite voices/performances, you can switch between voice mode and performance mode quickly in live performance. I am not sure what you are trying to do, but if you haven't watched my video about using Master Mode, be sure to watch it. Hope this helps.
@rnalmighty733 Жыл бұрын
@@cathyt6773 okay so if I layer 3 sounds. I then save it, it is a performance mode yes. So if I then favourite it and it will be alongside with other voices in my favourites, just so it's easy to find and move around. As sometimes I may just want to use a regular voice. I would like it to be in a section where it is surrounded by keyboard sounds that are voices, for easy access
@cathyt6773 Жыл бұрын
@@rnalmighty733Well, you don't really need to favorite it, but you need to save it and then assign it a number in Master Mode. If making it a favorite it helpful to you in order to find it and then assign it a place in Master Mode, that's okay. Watch my How to Use Master Mode video. If you save it on the Bank A, No.1 button in Master Mode then save some other keyboard voices on A2, A3, A4, etc. you will be able to call up the different keyboard voices/performances that you like by just hitting one of the 16 buttons on the RH side of your keyboard. I think this will make sense if you watch my video about how to use Master Mode. The good thing about Master Mode is you can switch easily between voices and performances, or in other words, switch easily between modes. You will like it a lot.

How to move the tone of perfomance mode to song mode, please help me
@cathyt67736 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you are trying to do, but if you go to Performance mode and choose a performance you like, then hit record (which puts you in stand-by mode), then choose "seqmode - Song", then "number - ?? (choose a song number that is empty)", then hit play. You are now recording your Performance. When you hit stop (stop recording), the keyboard will automatically now be in "song mode" on the song number you chose. Push play and you will hear your Performance in Song Mode. If you hit the "Mixing" button, you will see the different voices of your performance on the first 4 tracks of the song.
@mridupawandutta57676 жыл бұрын
Actually my question was, how we edit our tones using split and layers in performance mode can we do the same in song mode??
@geraldhanson24536 жыл бұрын
How do you use the saved voices in pattern mode?
@cathyt67736 жыл бұрын
Hit "pattern", then "mixing," then "category search," and find the voice you want and hit enter to enter it onto one of the tracks. Same as if you were in "song" mode. If you want to record a "performance" (could be one you saved as a USR voice), hit "pattern," then hit "performance" then find the voice you want. Hit record and make sure you are in the "setup" window (F1). Where it says SeqMode, be sure to dial up "pattern" and where it says Number, be sure that you choose a pattern number that is available to record on. Then hit "Play" and record your performance (could be an arpeggiated) voice. When you hit stop, the "Pattern" mode button will light up and you will be back in "pattern" mode. You can go into "mixing" and see the tracks that your "performance" was recorded on. Now you can add more layers on other tracks. Hope this answers your questions. Keep playing around with it.
@johnalbanese50116 жыл бұрын
Just an observation... isn't this video really about how to create a performance? There is a way to create new "voices" which involves choosing individual waveforms in the 8 different layers that are available, LFOs, envelopes, etc etc.
@cathyt67736 жыл бұрын
You are right. I shouldn't have called it a "voice." But, I think the process is pretty much the same whether you are working with a performance or a single voice for storing and naming . . . ????
@pierreleroux36065 жыл бұрын
yeah. i dont like overriding anything...editing a voice should be stored separate from a performance now my question .....when you hit edit next to the voice it states "common" how do i change that to edit the elements ...manual says hit the common button???

@@cathyt6773 Dear Cathy T, thank you a lot for your very helpful videos! In this case, however, how do I create a New Voice, not a new Performance, which I could use as a Track when I record a new Song. The problem with a new Performance is that I cannot use it as a track when I record a new Song. Or can I?
@cathyt67733 жыл бұрын
@@MariusLeordeanu I will admit that I don't usually create and record new voices to use in songs. But I have been playing around since your question and this is what I figured out: When you create a new voice, it will be stored as a new Performance. Give it a name and know where you saved it (it will be in one of the Performance categories). So now you are wanting to record a song. First go to the "new Performance" (voice) that you created. Hit Record and make sure that you then hit F1 (Setup). Under SeqMode dial up "Song." Then under Number dial up the song number you want the recording to go to. Check your tempo and time signature and then hit the "play" arrow and start recording this voice or new Performance. When you are finished go to Song mode and dial up the song number you sent it to. Your recording of that "new Performance" will be there in your song. Be sure to record the "new Performance" first in your song and then add the other tracks afterwards --- Start with track 5 to add your additional voices. The "new Performance" that you recorded first will tie up the first 4 tracks.

How to you delete a performance

I think you don't really delete it, just save another one over the top of it - - in other words, replace it. Or edit it and use the same name and store it - - again, replacing the one you don't like.
