This is one of my "how to" videos which shows how to record a multi-track song on the Yamaha MOXF8 Keyboard. It also shows how to name the song and save it for re-loading in the future.

While in song or pattern mode, hit "job" then hit F5 "track" under the display screen. Then dial up "Clear Track." Hit Enter and choose which track you want to clear. If you want to clear all tracks, dial the TR numbers until they say "TRALL" which means "all tracks" will be cleared. Then hit enter to clear.

Hi Cathy, from Belgium ! I just discover you here and thanks for this, i maybe endly try to use about my MoxF8 thanks of you, i mean, the user manual is too much complicated for me. Just one question: is it just possible to bring the usb content in my computer (without the cubase disc) and convert it in mp3, to mix all this afterwards with a phone music app ? Even if i want to bring in my laptop each sound separated to wotk them in an phone app ? (Knowing that my music still simple). Okay, you said that the usb key is only used to be listened with the keyboard, how can i just bring my sounds to my laptop please, just with some cables ? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Thanks a lot for answer me 🙏🏻 i have my Moxf8 since 2017 and never been able to record something with..

After you have recorded a song or pattern on the keyboard, you can plug your keyboard into your laptop (I use an interface unit called Focusrite) and record one track at a time into Garage Band or Cubase or Logic Pro X or whatever program you like to use. You can create a different track on your computer for each track on your keyboard. You can do this by hitting the "mute" button on the Yamaha Keyboard (on the far RH side of the keyboard). When you do this all of the 16 buttons will light up. Hit all of the buttons that you want muted. You will leave the one track that you want to record unmuted. Then you are ready to hit "play" on the keyboard and "record" on the computer. You will then repeat the process muting different tracks. Does this make sense? After you have recorded your tracks onto your computer, you can edit each track and create an mp3. I don't know much about using your iphone in any of this process.

Hi, Cathy. Thanks for the wonderful tutorial. How's the action on this keyboard as compared to a acoustic piano(upright) ? And, please tell how to import a recorded song on this keyboard to an mp3 file . Please help me on this ! Thanks, Mam.
@cathyt6773
@cathyt6773 Жыл бұрын
First of all, the keyboard action on a quality acoustic piano is always different (better). But I think you will enjoy the action on the MOXF8. As electric keyboards go, it is super great! As for your second question, after you have recorded a song on your keyboard, the way to create an mp3 file is to hook the keyboard up to your computer through an interface unit (www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlet2i2G3--focusrite-scarlett-2i2-3rd-gen-usb-audio-interface). On my computer I have Logic X, which is a recording program. I open Logic and it recognizes the interface device and using Logic I start a new audio file and record the song from the keyboard into Logic. After you record it, you can save it in Logic as an mp3. You cannot save it as an mp3 on the keyboard itself. You have to record it into Logic or Pro Tools or Garage Band or whatever program you are comfortable with and create the mp3 from that program.

Thanks a bunch. Could I covert the file on the flash to a wmv or mpeg etc? Do you h.ave Cubase (have a vid on that?) or use it? Was it bundled with the MOXF8 back in 2016? Thanks again.
@cathyt6773
@cathyt6773 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think you can convert an MOXF8 file on your flash drive to an mp3 or wav file. My experience has been that you can only open and play those files on the keyboard itself. Cubase used to be bundled with the Motif keyboards, but I never used Cubase. I use Logic Pro X. I have also used Garage Band in the past. After you have created your song or pattern on the keyboard, plug your keyboard into an interface unit (I used Focusrite - Scarlett), which is plugged into your computer. It is very easy to record your song into Logic or Garage Band (or Cubase). Then, in that program (Logic or whatever) you can save it as an mp3, burn a disk, email it to people or do whatever you want with it. I have not made a video showing this. Perhaps I should?

The song you personally record will be saved if you hit "Store," but will show up blank unless you give it a name. The music will be there but it the display window for "Song" will show a blank for the song number that you recorded on unless you name it. The Demos have all been named and thus, you can see them. If you save your song on a flash drive it may show up blank, but it will be there when you hit "Play."

Thank you Cathy. I want to Save a recorded song as a .WAV file (which I was able to do on my Yahmaha Motif ES6) but this keyboard - I assume - doesn't save .WAV files. This prompts my query: How do I save as a .WAV which I can then convert to an .MP3? Much obliged
@cathyt6773
@cathyt6773 4 жыл бұрын
I think the only way to get an mp3 is to hook your keyboard up to your computer and open up a program like Garage Band or Logic and while in your song hit play and record it as a WAV file in one of those types of programs. Then after you have it recorded, while in Garage Band (or whatever), you can save it as an mp3. I use Logic for this. My keyboard is hooked up with quarter inch jack cables from the "output" holes on the back of the keyboard into the front of an audio interface device. The audio interface that I use is Scarlett Focusrite (approx. $150). From the back of the Focusrite, I have a USB cable that connects to my iMac computer. I open up my recording program and I am ready to go.

What kind of file is it saved as on the flashdrive? Is it as easy as taking the flashdrive out and plugging it into your computer and being able to use the file easily??
@cathyt6773
@cathyt6773 4 жыл бұрын
No. The files saved on your flash drive will only be useful when plugged into a Motif keyboard. If you want to listen to or play the song on your computer, you should connect your keyboard to your computer and record the song into a program like Logic or Cubase. I do this by using an audio interface device ($150-ish) which I plug my keyboard into. Then I plug the device into my computer. You can then play your song on the Motif and it will record into a recording program like Garage Band, Cubase (I think there is a free version), Logic, Pro Tools, etc. I found the following info about file formats on the MOXF8 online: You can easily move these [MOXF8 songs from your flash drive] to your computer by simply plugging the USB drive into your computer and copying the files. These files are in Yamaha MOXF proprietary file format _ capable of being read by another MOXF or the .X4A file can be opened by the Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8 Editor Standalone/VST.

But if you just stick the flash drive into your computer, you won't be able to open it and listen to your song. It only works when hooked into the keyboard.
