I thought about getting an MT09 SP when I got my full licence but given that I was upgrading from a Duke 390, I thought the MT09 would be too much of a handful so I decided to go for the CB650R and managed to get a deal on a brand new 2022 model that had been sitting in the shop for a while. Done a few upgrades including the most recent, an Akrapovic exhaust. Sounds amazing! A mate of mine got the XSR900 GP recently. Definitely a faster bike but the CB650R is no slouch, just gotta rev it harder but it rewards when you do and still plenty of mid-range punch. One day I might look at getting an MT09 but I think I still have a lot of learning and developing skills to do before I get a machine like that. Even in your video you were getting the wheel up just by touching the throttle. That's too much for an intermediate rider I think.

SP = Sports Production. Dates back to the formula 3 bikes from Japan in the late 80s and early 90s. They were 250 2 strokes and 400 four strokes and the Sports Production variants included changes useful for racing like a close ratio gearbox, more adjustable suspension etc..

MT09SP brakes are much softer despite Brembo Stylemar calipers fitted they persist putting cheap rubber brake pipes on where as STRS has steel braided pipes fitted possibly why there is a difference in performance
@Juuul8910 күн бұрын
The Street triple's stylemas have different pads and it has a different master cylinder with a different piston ratio. The initial bite is 100% due to those 2 factors. Braking feel is more difficult story, brake lines, ABS system, pads, MC, MC to caliper piston ratio etc etc. Japanese brands almost always choose a less agressive pad, probably for safety reasons. Caliper pistons on both the SP and regular MT are both 30mm :).

Have a 24SP ( previously had 22SP). Bike is near perfect 🤩. Your review spot on good and not so good items. Above all really is magically FUN. And as owner of the Triumph and Yammi , I would agree it’s the best in class all things considered. My Street triple RS is sportier overall, more serious and but not necessarily playful . SP= Sneaky Pecker! 😉

Hi, I'm thinking of getting this latest mt09 sp next year. I like sporting riding with a couple of track days thrown in. I'm concerned about the mt09 handling under hard acceleration as the videos I've watched all show this light front end I know it's one of the bikes characteristics but just wondering if you thought the xsr900 2025 would be more stable? Cheers 😊
@dougalmanzar7 күн бұрын
@@markstevens7442 Okay, a few things: Adjusting suspension to get proper sag and rebound/compression is definitely a worthwhile step in terms of ensuring the chassis is balanced as the overall stance of bike places more weight rearward as delivered. Less so than the 21-23 model though). That's a step missing in every review. Once set up well, the bike can be ridden really hard( fast mountain rd/track day) with total confidence. Now is the front end it as planted feeling as a Street triple RS ? Not quite. Though the tradeoff is greater agility and ease of use. Its a really good compromise. As far as XRS9, that does have a longer wheelbase and lower more forward handlebars which taken together make it stable feeling than an mt09 though the suspension/brakes are inferior now compared to a 24 SP and even a std 24 MT. cheers mate!

Hi Dougal, i just wanted to say thanks for replying to my question. Im deciding between the xsr900 2025, xsr900 gp and the mt09 sp. Hopefully I like the mt09 as it's probably the best value here in NewZealand. Thanks again for the info, cheers Mark@dougalmanzar

SP evidently stands for Singular Paintjob! A boneheaded decision if ever there was. As for the same brakes not feeling as good as they do on the ST765RS then Michael Neeves has previously commented that a common shortcoming of Japanese bikes persisting to this day is the software implementation of ABS systems relative to how well the established European manufacturers commonly do it.

The Ducati multistrada V2 is a touring bike but the MT09 is completely different but the V2 engine has 115 bhp but the engine torque that the MT09 has but there’s a new Ducati street fighter V2 with 120 bhp and the same engine torque as before the bike Overall weight is 178 kg and that depends on which model you buy but the engine power doesn’t change unless you buy the street fighter V4 this being the brand new one which has 215 bhp the same as the new panigale V4 and there’s not much difference between them in price the question I am wondering if there’s any difference between them when you ride them and hopefully you might test them at some point and then I will be very interested to hear your thoughts on both bikes

You said that you tested the MT09 in Lanzarote earlier this year I live in Lanzarote and the roads are really very good until it rains because there’s not much rain so they are very slippy the roads for that reason but when the roads are dry they are very good did you go right to the north of Lanzarote the reason for asking is that there’s a very good coastal road that goes right to the end of Lanzarote and it’s a good road for motor bikes and there’s no speed cameras I have seen a lot of motor bikes on that road even on a week day but over the weekend there’s a lot of people with motor bikes here

I reckon Yamaha purposefully made the exhaust cheap because they know most people will put a better exhaust on it. No point spending too much on an exhaust that will find itself in the scrap metal pile.
