I agree with every word you said, for me with 15 years + experience I still feel the MT-07 is enough for me. I feel fear a lot of motorcycle choice is made purely on ego, most guys I know here in the UK still have a hangover from the 90's/2000's when if you didn't have a litre sportsbike you where basically viewed as a teenage girl! Most lads I know with larger capacity bikes can't ride for shit, yet the most gifted natural rider I know rides a 2003 Honda hornet 600! It's time we all just looked at this realistically. For 90% of riders an MT-09 will be too much power to handle, sadly this lesson is a hard one to learn and lots of guys who competed in the 'my cocks bigger than your cock' motorcycle competition will find themselves either in A&E or worse still in a coffin. The other thing I am REALLY pleased you picked up on is the price difference. Here in the UK the bikes are roughly 2k apart. Not that much, so many will think "I may as well go for the bigger 'better' bike." But as you so rightly pointed out these are different bikes for different types of rider. If your in the top 10% experience and natural talent wise buy the MT-09, if you have been riding less than 5 years or naturally aren't 100% confident then buy the MT-07 and with the 2k change get a full exhaust system and a decent Arai/Shoei/AGV lid and a back protector, 😀

My 07 has lots of excess torque in fact if you aren’t careful that front wheel has a good habit of popping up on you, it’s a really awesome bike especially with full exhaust upgrade and a retune it performs good and sounds amazing, I did upgrade the suspension just because you can tell they were cheapo in that department but between 07 and 09 I think it’s apples to oranges

I just bought the XSR900 as my “first” bike. I have experience with quads and mopeds as a kid and rarely dirt bikes. I’ll take the motorcycle course before my license. We’ll see how I do. I’ll ride it in B mode and Traction Control 2 before getting comfortable. I’m 39, and around 230 pounds so I’m looking forward to a decent adjustable suspension.

I hadn't ridden for years and it was only trail bikes way back then. 10 months ago I brought a Honda CB500F which is similar to the MT07 and was a great intermediary bike. 5 x weeks ago I brought the MT09 and haven't looked back. Obviously I'm never going to use all the power but its nice to know when you want to overtake the power's there! Also it's very comfortable and as mentioned in this video, has really good suspension. If in doubt and your not an IDIOT, go the MT09 every time!

Thanks for the video mate. I own MT-07 Y2017. I can tell I love everything about this bike. For the performance flaws I've upgraded my bike with Akrapovic full exhaust, OHLINS shock and OHLINS NIX22 fork cartridge kit. It drives and handles perfectly and smoothly. I live in the area were max speed limit most of the time is 90 km/h, with my MT-07 every time I'm in the ticket zone for speeding, yet still holding my licence. Having MT-09 means saying goodbye to the licence permanently as I would just not be able to hold my temptation to feel it's full power. For those who claim that MT-07 is a girls or beginners bike should be ashamed. Yamaha has proclaimed MT-07 as a beginners bike only because it has an option for A2 licence drivers, it's power can be limited/adjusted to 35kW so young and inexperienced drivers can get used to it's powers before taking the limitation off. First bike I had was HONDA CB500F this I would call more like in the category for beginners to learn how to drive. Going from CB500R to MT-07 I can tell it's stepping up the game big time and it's more than enough for me in the current circumstances. I agree 100% that if you go for MT-09 you should have a clear set of intentions were you want to take this beast for a ride. No reason to buy one if there's no place were to use it's powers, or you just want to be COOL. I've a friend who purchased 09, he's happy with the bike, but for our roads he admits that should've went for 07 as there's just no place were to ride it without getting into trouble.

I think it's rather a head vs heart thing. My heart tells me for so long to go and buy the 09. I love everything about from looks to sound. But then there is my head that let me buy the 07. Even if you dont need the power. If it's exactly your thing i can understand people buying it without needing all that torque :))

Not ridden an MT09 but have had 3 Street triple R’s previously. Now have an MT07 and owned for 14 months, upgraded brake pads, replaced crappy bridge stones with Pirelli tyres, fitted exhaust usual bling stuff and just like how light it is to ride, move around the drive when washing, cleaning chain etc and nice and low, never feels like I’ll drop it. Fast enough for the roads, will likely change the rear shock as I’m 14 stone and even with adjustments the stock one is still a bit bouncy on the narrow B roads in the uk. Great sound and fuel consumption too. I like the look of the 09 more but won’t be changing to one. 👍🏻

I agree with you, there is a big difference between marketing and real life, lot of people think riding a motorcycle is "top speed" and the industry "feeds" those guys ego to sell more. The only downside of the 07 seems to be the suspension. Congratulations from Portugal

I 100% agree with your assessment - bought a new 2018 MT-09 3 weeks ago... I've been riding for 21yrs/150,000 miles+ and have owned 2x 600cc super sport bikes (R6 / ZX-6R), those bikes were "fast" in the upper RPM, this bike is "quick" in the lower RPMz ... I would say my ZX6R ninja was "violent from 13-17k rpms, I would say my MT-09 is just flipping SCARY 0-75 in ANY RPM! I believe the dealership should have warned me, and or have a disclaimer about bikes like this. They did not know me or the experience that I had. They just pushed for the sale and did not once ask me about my riding experience and assumed I knew what I was getting into. To your point, this bike should only be sold to an "advanced" rider ~ even though that is me I was scared the first 2 weeks until I "Tamed" the bike and got use to fly-by-wire throttle (my old bikes were all mechanical throttles). None the less, the bike is very fun to ride and I enjoy the complete power-band. My SS bikes were "Flat" off the line until 10k RPMs, this thing is a beast in any gear, any RPM, any speed!

Saw this comment in another video, but I really do fucking agree with it 100% both when I first saw it, and after when I experienced it. It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than it is to ride a fast bike slow. It's already exhilarating to hear the engine going 80kmph on a 125cc bike, than it is to cruise 80kmph on a 1000cc bike. I think one of the other things to consider is what you are primarily using the bike for. Scratch that, I think that would be *THE MAIN* thing you have to consider, and branch off from that. Using it for commute, you don't need to go 200 kmph to go to your destination, especially if you plan to do it everyday. Not only would it be dangerous, it'd also be costly. Not only because you're increasing the # of cylinders = more gas needed, rather the amount of tickets you'd rack up for speeding would also take into play. If you plan to use it in the track, then sure, take the faster bike. But if you're planning to use it on the track, it is already assumed you already know how to properly use a fast bike. You're not worried so much about the legal speed, the gas price, comfort etc. Using it to impress the ladies...your friends... etc. ?? Just rent a bike!

Depends on what your using it for and where. For long drives with wide roads 09. For city use narrow roads and traffic 07. But 09 is definitely not to start with. It’s just too much and it’s not fun to ride it in traffic. A lot of heat. Even experienced guys love the 07. So much fun.

As a guy with sensitive ears, I can't find a reason how people listening to loud crackling noises as pleasing, and the constant revving is sometimes annoying, + the horn can be used to be noticed by other drivers also. I am currently on the market myself looking into a 600cc+ bike to commute between Hua Hin and Bangkok, so far I was considering the Hypermotard 821 mostly because its light and agile, but after your video I am also including the MT07 (MT09 is probably a bit overkill for the BKK traffic part) in my pool of options. A little bit concerned about the suspension part though... Keep the good work up, would be nice to ride along sometime :)

I drive it for over 100km and i think i will have some time for me to adapt to her! With 07 i do everything from great turns to awesome wheelies, and when i drive the 09...i was thinking..."man, this bike will need some adaptation time, not for ride it ok, but to start to be Squid again! 😂 Without the wheelies on the 09 i could not take the pleasure i take from 07... I got a supermoto about a year ago (crf450x) and I can do just about anything on it. Who really needs to go faster than 130 on a naked bike. If your here looking for speed your in the wrong place, that's for super bikes. If I was given this question I would go out and test ride both of them before getting one, just to feel it yourself because words dont matter at all. It's all about how you feel on the bike.

I have an MT-07 now for 2 years. It's my first 'big' bike after riding a 125cc and getting about 7000kms of experience. With the MT-07 the counter is on about 10.000kms. I like it a lot but at times it feels a bit ...small. Did a short test ride with the MT-09 Tracer but it felt a bit boring. I would consider the new MT-09 or maybe the XSR model though, just prefer the nakeds. But I'm not sure if I would consider myself experienced enough to drive fast. The MT-07 doesn't always inspire enough confidence in fast corners when the roads are less good, which in Belgium is kinda standard. The very easy handling makes up for that though, such a light bike. And it's awesome to get trough busy, jammed up traffic.

Hi. I am riding a 07 in Phuket. I went through many bikes in the past 20 years from naked to liter sport bike ... i must admit that the 07 is a great starter bike and i would definitely recommend it. I was about to get the 09 instead but i heard about the new R6 coming so i decided to go for the cheapest option as i will upgrade to the R6 by Songkran. I had the bike for 3 months now and just knocked the 6,000 mark. The whole package is good - except the rear suspension and the front way to light ... if i was to keep the bike longer i would put a stearing damper - and you got Brembo brake system ... This bike is so forgivable.

@@rexczi6299 Hmm ok, thanks for the update! I bought a new one and can get it in 5 days. In Belgium there is a promotion going on so i would be stupid to pay 800€ less for a bike with 15K km's. I pay €6300 new and most used ones are max 800€ cheaper

I think some people can control them selfs and others can not. I just sold my 2011 gsxr750 to a guy who never even has ridden a bike in his life.. it either will kill him or scare him. It's not good to learn on a bike that scares you.

The folks saying the 07 is better are talking out their ass. By every metric the 09 destroys the 07 except in price and curb weight. Having ridden both and owning an 09 I can say the 09 handles way better. The 07 has a weird top heavy feeling like it just doesnt want to lean which is weird because the 09 is higher yet just feels so much more fluid. The 07 makes all its power immediately then craps out where the 09 is constantly building and explodes in the upper midrange. The 07 is a great beginner or girls bike but the 09 is just better.

Greetings from South Africa Webby. I am 46 years old. I grew up with bikes, but haven't been on one for 20 years now. I am shopping around now for a bike to commute to work and to have fun with over weekends. Commuting to work involves bumper to bumper traffic on normal roads and, if I want, include a 5km multiple carriage highway where the cars also creep along bumper to bumper. For my purposes, I am torn between the MT 07, MT 09 or the XSR900. Frankly, I am leaning towards the MT 09. I am a defensive and responsible car driver and not the type to take reckless chances or see what speed and performance I can get out of a car or bike. What advice do you have for me?
@motomanvlog
@motomanvlog 6 жыл бұрын
I’d say test them both but sounds like MT07 would be better. It’s lighter for traffic weaving and easier to handle at low speeds. 09 is overkill for city riding.
