Features I consider very handy for a budget are actual midi sockets and a stereo line input. 32 polyphony is OK if one is enhancing the sound with an external module which is then mixed in via line input. I did find that the P35 does not supply the 5 volts for midi so if you can't insert say an older Anatek midi curve into the chain- it won't power on.

I have a P35 ! The piano sound for the price was why I chose it. I am disappointed by the other voices though. An earlier Yamaha I had, a PSR model, had far better string sound. But you also failed to mention that you can enhance the piano sound with increased reverb - which I find is well done and is more enjoyable. Otherwise, thanks for the comparison and explanation of polyphony!

My wife has had the p-35 for a couple years now. I didnt see a 1/4 output like you said. There is only a headphone output. This is problematic because I cant connect it to another device like an amp, mixer or pa without losing the internal speaker sound. I think the same can be said for the P-45. I think this information may be helpful to your viewers.

I've played the p35 regularly but bought a p45. I prefer the p35 and find it crisper, the higher end pieces through rather than the the more...I don't know...matted sound of the p45, any idea what I could change in the settings to make the p45 crisper?

Thank you so much! This helps a great deal. As a pianist, I found that the P35 has a very hard feel to it; there is no feeling of felt under the keys. Another digital piano I have has a much softer feel to it, but it has other issues. Do you find that the "action" (or the feeling of the non-existent action) is more cushioned on the P45? I haven't played a P45 myself.

I love the sound of the piano, and love hearing it in music. I don't feel all that confident that I could pick up learning how to play very well but if I were to try, I'd wanna start on something like this. I want it to be as close to a real piano as possible. I'm not so sure what it is I'm asking but, what do you say to someone thinking about learning? How difficult is learning? Or is that too broad of a question...?

+Raymond C Hi, as long as you practice you will improve. Think about when you started to drive (if you do), at first you may have been a bit clumsy with the pedals and gears, lots of hand and foot coordination to learn and it can seem overwhelming, but after a few months it's second nature and you do it without thinking about it. Because you practice all the time you get better, it's that simple.

My Child just started learning the piano. She is playing on a Grand Steinway. The teacher asked she get weighted key keyboard full size so she can practice at home. This is a little over my budget with all the music lessons, Any other pianos worth looking at or buying? Or just suck it up and buy a p45?

Hi Gary, I know things can get expensive with all the lessons too and it's hard to find the right balance between price and quality. I used to teach regularly myself and I can say with certainty that if a student had a good quality instrument to practice on at home they would progress faster, this is actually making the lessons better value for money if you think about it! - Most teachers I know recommend Yamaha because they are the most authentic feeling/sounding digital keyboards/pianos, yes there might be cheaper electric pianos out there but there is a danger of handicapping your child's potential of the sake of saving a few £ or $. It's hard to make the right choice. All I can say is that in my experience as a teacher students progress very nicely when using Yamaha P45 or P115, and this means that they progress through their grades faster and therefore cost their parents less in the long run. They both can transpose. Remember P35 is no longer made but there might be some used ones for sale. P45 is the current model.

+Jake Methner Hi, Yes P45 are definitely useful, for small rooms, cafes, bedrooms, home use they are just fine. If you're playing in a larger room like a pub or town hall most people prefer to use an external speaker or PA system.

depend on your budget, if you have low budget like me, I think it's still worth it, it just has less feature from DGX i think, some feature like change the sound to other instruments (but this is not important if you just want to focus on playing piano) when I bought it at my country the seller said it's doesn't support usb though, but i think you still can connect it to pc for synthesia (i think i read it somewhere in the manual). so overall for me, yeah it's worth it

Hi, me again! So I did decide to buy the P-115 (much thanks to your videos!) and I want to hook it up to external speakers. The speakers I have use either an aux-in or RCA in.
