Fantastic project. I ride a Yamaha Fazer FZ1 road bike. Awesome engine. Love the Kolb Ultralights.

You're working through the exact project with the Firestar that I am.looking at doing. Great videos 👍

Nice! Would love to see it. Anything your doing that is substantially different than mine?

I am very interested to see your results. I may end up using a Phazer on a Chinook build.

Love Chinooks, would probably have one if I could find one not in Canada
@Rico11b8 ай бұрын
It needs a cowling build around the motor to help reduce drag.

Is the bolt pattern for the gearbox the same with the phaser and apex? The reason I ask is because I want to put an apex on a searey which is also a pusher and would like the gear box to hang down like yours. Do you have cad files of the pattern?
@bkairys3 жыл бұрын
Its not the same between the 2. I hand made this adapter from scratch. Its fairly straight forward. I think you could do it on a Apex as well.
@Brutalwhan3 жыл бұрын
Don't you need to torque the prop bolts and wirelock them?
@DustinApple3 жыл бұрын
id expect you to be able to turn a lot bigger prop than that little IVO.
@bkairys3 жыл бұрын
No clearance for anything much larger unfortunately..I'm happy with the 1,800ft / min climb performance.
@DustinApple3 жыл бұрын
@@bkairys could got to a 4 or 5 blade Powerfin without increasing diameter i guess.
@MrHanowski3 жыл бұрын
Nice progress! Apparently you don't need an E-box to have electric start. Suggest evenly and progressively torqueing that IVO to 200in-lbs. Can't you adjust idle to eliminate need for clutch? I don't want clutch either.
@bkairys3 жыл бұрын
I tried! Clutch was only way to get it to work. Think ignition timing has something to do with it.

Could you comment on the weight, power $ fuel burn difference between your 503/582? And this new set up?
@bkairys2 жыл бұрын
I was getting about 2gph is the kolb and about 3 gph in the phazer kitfox. 503 gets around 4gph, 582 4 to 5 gph.
@rv7builder3973 жыл бұрын
Really appreciate you documenting this; I've got an old Twinstar that I'm paranoid about flying with a 2stroke. But tightening the prop bolts with an impact driver? Really? I hope that segment was just excessive editing. :-)

@@bkairys Thanks, I'm going to try this setup in a month. You said, I believe, you had to cut the engine shaft diameter but the number was more or less. Can you elaborate? Thank you. Also would you fabricate an adapter plate at a cost? Thanks Eddy.
@motorcyc13 жыл бұрын
Disregard, I was buying a kolb firefly with a 503 rotax engine but the wings and fuselage had quite a bit of damage. It had been sitting for over two years. So I'm going to wait till April and go to the Sun and Fun here in Florida, check out the vendors. I would like an amphibian ultralight aircraft more so because here in Florida there's a lake or river around every city. Thank you for your help. Will update you soon.
