So in this video we're taking a look at direct recording via USB. As far as connecting goes, there's really nothing to tell - it just works! No drivers, no OEM downloads. Love it!
But while we're here, let's indulge in some of this keyboard's great sounds in noise-free, zero-loss clarity!

Is a huge improvement for effects but I will not be swapping my ew410 as this new model cannot sample cromaticaly across the keys and Yamaha have reduced samples loop banks to 4 pads instead of 6. This was the whole point of my purchase so now for example, I cannot recreate old prodigy tracks or create my own sampling music, create dance stabs or layer drum loops over keys. To me, quick sampling was not a gimmick. I will be buying the Roland MC 707 now and attach a midi keyboard to it. Only my personal preference and opinion, otherwise I'm out.

I think that's a REALLY valid point. I'm still learning everything about this board and I'm sure there are great discoveries to come, but I am really missing that chromatic sampling. Big time. Great question, I'm surprised on-one has asked that until now. It's all down to the sampler for me. The 463 allows you to play samples right across the keyboard, whereas the 473 only lets you have 4 samples (1 for each button). Although the 473 has a better collection of sounds, the 463 can ultimately go further because its better sampling capability.

I just bought my E473. I tried to use it in PC via USB but i dont have success. Using LMMS i'm able to use LMMS's sounds controlled by the keyboard via MIDI, but this is not what i want to do. I want to reproduce the original sound of keyboard in PC using USB connection but i don't know how to do it. I downloaded the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver but when i open it doesn't give options. How to do you do? Is LMMS able to do it, the Windows 10 itself or do i need to download another program, such as audacity? thank you

I used Audacity and it worked first time. You have to select it as the input device.

ISB is the only way, you might need an adapter depending on what mac you have.

Sir, can we connect MIDI for this Yamaha psr e473 to apple MacBook Pro ? In Yamaha website the MIDI Yamaha driver is available only for windows and midi yamaha driver is not available for apple MacBook Pro.

You'd need an adapter to get the socket shape right, but I'd be very surprised if it didn't work. I have never tried it with a Macbook Pro.

Isn't there a way to record to a usb stick without audacity? Or are you using audacity as it has editing features, saving you from having to play the whole song again in case you made a mistake.

Yes you can record direct to USB. I just did it this way so we could all see the waveform appearing.

LOL Well, with a bit of apprehension, I have to admit that the articulation sounds like a bunch of 80 year old plus ladies singing. Yamaha could have done much better than that, unless ya need 80 year old ladies in your music mix, but me thinks not.

That's a very clean recording. I'd expect it to had some faint ground hum but I don't seem to hear it here. They implement this very well.

Okay. Now, can you do something like this in the new BandLab Cakewalk? More specifically, can I lay down track by track, to include individual backing tracks? For example, I want to record a multi-track recording of some song, using the accompaniment section. First, can I sequence the chords for the song? Next, if I can sequence the chords, can I solo the bass track and then output that to Cakewalk? After the bass track, then the drum track, and so forth for all of the accompaniment channels. I don't suspect that you can send audio back from Cakewalk back to the EW425, so I'm sure you'll need to have some other method of playing back the audio, i.e., a sound card. Which, in that case, you might as well just skip doing the audio over USB anyway and go direct from the analog outputs to the inputs of the sound card. But, what I'm looking for is a replacement for someone who has an older PSR-2xx 61 note keyboard. I think the EW425 would be a great choice and with a laptop should be able to record her playing, lessons, etc.

My Imac thinks my psr-E473 is an audio device. Anything I play will only let me translate the sounds to internal sounds on the Imac. Any idea what's wrong?

He's using audacity. Maybe you're using a daw which is just using your keyboard as a controller. They're two different things.

Yep, there's another video I did that goes into more detail about sequencing and how the tracks are arranged. It's basically the same as the PSR-E463, which I covered in even more detail. The manual is also available online, you just google "PSR-E473 PDF" and it'll appear.

Yes, even when you play back samples they appear in the recording along with any other sound you make with the keyboard.

Hi! I got the PSR-E473and I would like to play along with a wav or midi file, I put on a USB Stick. When I play the wav file, I hear the song in my keyboard, but the keys do not produce any sound. Regarding the midi file - I cannot detect it at all! How do I do it right please? For your help, thanks so very much in advance!

I don't have my 473 anymore sorry, I went back to the 463. All I can suggest is looking up the manual online by searching "PSR-E473 PDF" and hopefully you'll find the answer in there. When the manual is on your screen you can use CTRL+F to search for key words, I find this better than searching through the contents :)

Nice demo of the sounds but exactly at what point do you actually show us HOW to setup the keyboard to record to USB? There are steps you have to take even in Audacity..

I just plugged the USB cable in and it worked. You might have to select "Yamaha" in the input settings but in my case it defaulted to the right setting.

Another missed opportunity. Losing ability to play samples on the keyboard is ridiculous. Why not put 8 pads that can use to sequence drums. No modulation wheel and no portamento. Finally no way to store user tones, rhythms or samples on the keyboard itself without using up the measly 32 registrations

I agree with you with the missed modulation wheel and portamento. They should've put these already, it is wacky how they "solved" this with... a button. Now, about the 32 registrations, this is one of the things that separates the entry level to the semi-pro level of keyboards, we can't do nothing to change this.

But it's on page 49 of the manual, which was sitting in another room (whoops), and involves pressing the REC button while holding the SHIFT button, which puts you into Record Ready mode for audio recording. I think it'd be very hard to tell the difference, but if you use an external interface then you'd be going from digital to analog then back to digital, instead of recording direct which is digital all the way. Like I said though - little difference in the end product. People get way too uptight about recording quality and they forget to write good songs :(

Hi Glynn nice vid. The USB audio feature is really neat. In future videos, could you maybe do a showcase of the new sounds, styles and grooves which were not o previous Evmodels? I find that the SArt Lite gospel voices with articulation are pretty cool. Are there more patches on this area than on the E363? What do you think of the new position of the Live knobs? Cheers 😎

I wish I still had that 373 so I cold make a comparison. But yep, new sounds will be the focus of the next video I think. As for the knobs, I think I prefer the old layout. I'm also finding the keys to be a big downgrade from the elegant feel of the 373, and the operating system has some quite serious glitches. So I'll have to make a video about my concerns so that everyone is properly informed.

@@gearfacts There is a theory for the time being on the PSR Tutorial Forum that Yamaha rushed the commercialisation of the PSR EW425/E473 to catch up with Casio’s CT-S500 and CT-S1000V. If Yamaha were in a kind of hurry this could explain the problems with the OS of the new keyboards as well as the very poor quality of the few unimaginative official videos which have been published so far. If you find that the key feel of the PSR E373 is better than that of the EW425, this is interesting. I had exactly the same feeling many years ago when I had the E433 and I played the E343 of my niece for one week. The keybed of the E343 was one of the best I have ever played on any home keyboard. Maybe Yamaha give more attention to the keys of the E3xx series because they know that these keyboards are going to be played by kids, or in music schools, etc., so they have to be robust and reliable.

@@HubertEtAlice I want to have both the Casio CT-S500 and the Yamaha PSR E473, but if the PSR has problems with the OS it won't be reliable. And nobody wants a keyboard OS crashing in the middle of a gig. This will play against the PSR E473 for sure if Yamaha does not fix this as fast as possible.
