I have the RN303. Not the RS202. The 202 is the cheap version of the 303, just for the record. So when I talk about my 303 it’s the same as talking about the 202 pretty much. I love my RN303. I’d say it’s sort of a Jack of All Trades, Master if None. I like that it has a radio tuner built into it and comes with its own antenna. I like that it has Bluetooth. Very simple to use click right or left to change from your CD, PHONO, etc. and just turn the volume knob. The simple Bass and Treble EQ works great. Specifically as an all around bass booster for every part of the song. Mainly the Kick drum and Bass. Overall it is extremely simple. Considering how much it packs inside of it. Yes the 303 has more features than the 202. That’s what an extra 250-300 spending will get you. More features, better quality ports, and better parts. One downside to these Yamaha receivers is if you can’t play through both channels A&B at the same time. You have to switch off your A-set of speakers to hear your B-set, and vice versa. Same goes for plugging in headphones. Can’t have headphones plugged in at the same time your speakers are playing. One will cut out the other, allowing you only one channel at a time. BESIDES THAT ONE MORE THING. Make sure your speakers, CD Player, Equalizer, Phono, etc. ARE COMPATIBLE with these Yamaha receivers. They aren’t the most Versatile. These are my first impressions and review after a year with a Yamaha RN303.

Thank you for the review, i have never in my life heard of a receiver that you can't listen to both speaker channels at the same time,thats the whole point of having A and B, lol,some people like to add more speakers just because or just whatever they fancy,seems like a crazy oversight. A coworker recently gifted me a 202 so i cant complain but i haven't really messed with it that much,i have always had Technics,one of my favorite units has a problem with one of the speaker channels, i need to take it in and have it replaced,after looking at the back of the 202 and how spartan it is it really made me appreciate that old Technics with the speaker issues, the back of that unit looks like Times Square on New Years,very busy,lot of options,lol

If your smart TV has an analog audio output you should be able to connect it. It does not have the necessary loop in/out you would need to hook up an external graphic equalizer. All the EQ settings and features are built-in.

Sounds like the TV may not be currently setup to send audio out those analog audio outputs. I recommend checking the manual to see how to activate them. You can connect 4 speakers total to this Yamaha, however it can only play either speaker set A or speaker set B, not both at the same time. Also it is only stable at 8 ohms as well. We do have other stereo receivers that can play 2 pairs of speakers simultaneously as long as they're all 8 ohms.

It can receive Bluetooth signals from an external device, such as a smartphone. But unfortunately, it can't transmit wireless Bluetooth audio back out to Bluetooth headphones.

I’m using an Audio Technica AtLP 60 BT with this Receiver. It has a built in preamp. I’m getting very low sound. Do I still need a pre-amp?

Audio-Technica does indicate the AT-LP60-BT turntable has a phono/preamp switch. If that switch is set to phono which connected to this receiver, the issue you describe will happen. We recommend checking that switch and making sure it is set to preamp (which may be listed as Line level output on the switch per their website).

They are not a good match because the Yamaha R-S202 receiver only supports 8 ohm speakers but those NS-F160 appear to be 6 ohm speakers. A coworker of mine gifted me one of these receivers (used) and some really nice speakers and i hooked it up and there was no sound, after doing some research i found out it was in standby mode? so after finding the "code to the vault" ,lol ,i was able to get it open and i have sound now,my question was,i have to get the volume up to around 50 before i can ever start to listen to anything, is this normal or is there a setting I'm missing? if it is... why have such a large potentiometer in the volume control if it doesn't do anything? I have a Yamaha DVD\Blue ray player eceiver thats like that also,you gotta get it near 70/80 so it can sound normal for the people watching the movie, not super loud but not quiet either,i was just curious, thank you for any input.

The newer yamaha recievers have a different type of volume knob than older ones it's actually better because it goes up and down exactly 1db at a time but it will seem different like you said.

Far as your subwoofers go the receiver has no subwoofer connectors on it.. Just straight wire speaker terminals. At least thats what mine has.. and don't get any speaker wire for it bigger then 13 or lower because i made the mistake and got 14 gauge it it just barely fits in there at all. I need to get thinner wires etc. Far as the audio device you have goes so long as it has some type of rca connector on it then it should work. It also works pretty good with some bluetooth devices too.

This Yamaha cannot support powering 4 speakers at the same time. It only works with 8 ohms which means it will only successfully power one set of speakers at a time. That Yamaha supports Bluetooth and when you get it close enough to the projector, that could work. Just be careful as the Yamaha is not outdoor rated. Are you looking for landscape speakers to use in the system? Or will the speakers be mounted to a wall or post?

The Yamaha receiver is not capable of running 4 ohm speakers, but I should also mention that those Bose speakers are not 4 ohms. Their nominal impedance is 8 ohms which is supported by the Yamaha. Basically, this receiver will power those Bose speakers

I have tested other apps too, and also another phone, but no matter how high I set the volume on both the phone and the stereo, I get no noise😅 (I turn it down to about 15/100 when I'm done, just so it doesn't suddenly work and remove my eardrums🤣)

You can, just connect to the cd port of the receiver and your all set. I have one connected to mine and i haven't had any problems so far. but i will say this about this receiver. At least the model i have doesn't turn up very loud at lower volumes. For example if you turn the vol between 1-20 you won't hear a thing. and if you do its very low!! I don't hear anything on mine (even the built in radio) until i turn it up to a 32 and higher. Now mine could be faulty but that's what it does.. and mine was suppose to be brand new too. But then again i only paid $149 for it too.. That is the only reason why i bought one is because of the price.

There must be so truth to what crutchfield was saying is because i have 2 sets of 8 ohms floor speakers connect to mine and the receiver seems to favor the speakers in channel A then in Channel B. B seems to lack bass where the speakers in channel A seems to sound really good. And even if i run speakers in channel B with A turned off they don't sound that good at all by themselves..

There are devices that can respond to Google commands that can be connected to its inputs. We don't have any that will actively listen for the commands, but something like the Denon HEOS LINK HS2SR can be added to extend Google Home control to this system. Weak sauce. There's virtually no bass. My 1990's 200 watt Pioneer stereo receiver used to push 2 4 ohm Cerwin Vega 12" behemoth speakers and shake the entire house. This receiver can't even push a pair of bookshelf speakers I used to use occasionally on the B output of the old Pioneer. The Yamaha does have good sound with low power speakers if you're more into softer, classical, easier listening, instrument and vocal driven music. It's not what you want for bass heavy rap though.
