The question is why Yamaha put those parts there? This is the first question you should ask before removing anything on an R1 or R1M. Parts are weight and on Superbikes are always a no-go zone. There must be something more advantageous than the weight to force Yamaha engineers to put it there. Firstly, engine needs more air than the small duct can provide, when it revs over an X number of revs. At lower revs it doesn't need that max volume of air. THAT PART IS NOT RESTRICTING THE VOLUME OF AIR. THAT FLAP OPEN AND CLOSE TO INCREASE THE SPEED OF AIR ENTERING THE AIR BOX!!! YOUR BIKE WILL BE SLOWER AT LOW SPEED BECAUES YOU REMOVE THIS FLAP. You are good on screwing and unscrewing parts, but that's your limit in engineering. Good luck

Then why would the McAms World Superbike Yamaha mechanic remove this flapper on all their race bikes? There’s a video of him doing it. Go on KZbin and type in how to get the most power out of your engine lighter , its a 3 part series by FAST BIKES with 2021 world sbk champ Taz Mackenzie and his McAms Yamaha mechanic remove this flap. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWKrYoyogKaLaKc

@@TrickRacing You said it. They race the bike, not for street use. Racing bikes are not for road use because of the way they build them. Like for example, removing the flap...

Agree 100% - I work for an engineering firm though we don't work on engines we still put a lot of resources into establishing the best process for the application. Removing a process needs to be carefully considered, weighing the pros and cons, then testing the said proposals. I also have an R1, I have done many modifications to the exhaust system, and the ECU for track purposes, but I would never remove this part without serious consideration and testing. Additionally, think about the next person who will buy this bike are you going to keep the parts if they want to revert back to stock or just let them guess why the bike is so sluggish at low speeds?

I did this. I put a bore scope up there from the front and took snips and snipped both sides of it pulled it out. Took me 10 mins.

Hey man, not using it to remove my flap but to replace the intake due to it cracking at the frame. (Don’t bring down wheelies to hard 😅) I appreciate the video showing how to remove it!
@jeremyh1725 ай бұрын
I can save you hours of time. Get a cheap bore scope and a long pair of cutters. I just watched the camera feed and cut it in two spots and pulled it out. Took me 10 mins and 5 of that was looking for a pair of cutters.

Love the build series. I have a 2021 myself. Not sure if anyone has already asked this but can't Bren tuning tune the ecu to just leave the flap open? Or is removal necessary to achieve desired airflow? Thanks.
@MotoViceOfficial2 жыл бұрын
So since this is controlled through vaccum from the motor, I dont believe it can be turned off by a flash/tune. When i got my tune done at a local shop in So Cal, they high recommended removing it.

Kind of of topic but.. whats your opinion on a hard break in for a new bike ? Did you baby yours or ride it hard?
@MotoViceOfficial2 жыл бұрын
Ehhh, for me presonally I definitely stay on the softer side up until 600mi and then at about 800mi, I feel its ready to go. Yes they redline them at the factory prefor shipment, but I personally think that it makes sense to ease the piston and rings in properly at an incremental rate of load.

@@MotoViceOfficial I've watched a few videos and I know everyone has their options on the matter. For me I have no self control ha so I've already had mine up to about 150 in 6th gear 😅 it has right under 300 miles at the moment. I've never redlined it or anything but I don't just putt around in the low rpms all the time. I do tend to short shift alot. But just wondering. Ill be getting my first service done at 600 and I guess we shall see. 🤞

Block of plates just help the tuning the bike on a dyno, they dont really do anything in terms of performance.
